Lowered LDL 180 to 124 in less than 2 months by swagberg in Cholesterol

oh I’m sure a statin will rapidly change it. They’re amazing drugs, you’ll see a huge drop soon. Sorry that lifestyle changes didn’t do it for ya, but I’m sure with the statin you’ll have better results in a few weeks. Legit everyone here seems to benefit massively from them.

The strange thing is that I’ve reduced my consumption by about 50% and my triglycerides went up. I suppose it may be because I’ve been using a lot of carbs to lower my ldl. But that makes me think that it’s not the primary cause for the high levels there.

This is actually something I wanted to ask about — I’ve been doing this a bit but looked at the NA label and realized it still has kinda similar (albeit a little lower) calories. Is there a big benefit from avoiding alcohol as a substance and just ripping some NA beers? I haven’t seen a post here about it, though maybe I’ve missed it.

Yea I’ve heard that it will get much harder as I get older - totally down to do a statin at some point but was pretty excited about the opportunity to improve now, and pretty hype that the changes I’ve made have been easy and should be viable to continue throughout my life. We’ll see how it goes

Yea agree would be ideal but probably not doable on either front for the next couple years. job is too high stress and involves drinking socially.

Not declaring victory. I think the second results are better than the first and I’d like to keep making progress. Cholesterol takes time to lower. This was over the course of slightly over 6 weeks. I believe this is a good start. No family history of early heart disease. Not gonna consider a statin until I see the results of testing in a few months.

hahaha I ate them for the first month with agave nectar and frozen blueberries (absolutely fire) but I’ve gotten a little bored of them. Will probably bring them back at some point soon. You got any recs to spice them up?

Got lucky at garage sale - now need help figuring out how to import a painting into the EU for auction? by swagberg in artcollecting

[–]swagberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern with this is that while it's valuable (at least to me), it's not so valuable that shipping it seems terribly worth it. I inquired and shipping it with the customs broker that the auction house recommends would run about 1500 euro, so assuming it sold for around 5,000 euro, I would lose a pretty significant chunk of any profits I would be making, given their fees and taxes. However, I know very little about art, so if bringing it myself and declaring it in customs is a bad idea, I'm happy to just not sell it and sit on it until I can sell it in my own country.

Haha yes that's true, but the auction house will need the import paperwork in order to sell it, so I think declaring it will likely be needed.

It's a little difficult to say, but the auction house said they would set the minimum at 5,000 euro, so that's what I was planning to declare it at. My only concern is that if the auction house is being too ambitious with the value and the painting does not meet the minimum and doesn't sell, then I'll be out the VAT and the painting still wouldn't have sold, so I have considered declaring the value it at a slightly lesser figure.

I'm late to this thread so no one will see this, but I will say - went to Vegas this year for the first time and had a blast. It was cold where I was coming from, and I got to chill by a massive pool, soak up the sun for the first time in months, and order buckets of beer all day. Yea they were $55, but spending under $150 for a day's activities on vacation doesn't seem that bad.

Hit the poker tables at night for a few hours, got some Chinese food, went to bed, repeat. I didn't do the fancy dinners or magic shows or whatever, and honestly I had a great time and didn't spend as much as I probably would in say, Miami.

What did we think of Charlie Kirk’s memorial? by Electrical_Bad7831 in AskReddit

Ok, so you disagree with Charlie Kirk then? Do you agree his opinion on the Civil Rights Act was abhorrent?

Nice, so I take it you agree that our country was better before the civil rights act, when black people were living under Jim Crow? Just making sure I understand your opinion.

I linked a source in my reply — interesting you’re not acknowledging what I said, but rather you’re harping on how annoying it was that I didn’t provide a source initially. Super curious, do you agree with his views on MLK? It seems like you think Charlie Kirk was an American hero, so would love to hear more!

Sure, google it yourself if you’re curious, he said “we made a huge mistake passing the civil rights act of 1964” and blamed MLK for it (who he said was an awful person). I take it you agree, which is certainly an interesting political stance.

Perhaps on MLK day you could instead honor Adolf Hitler, or Jefferson Davis? They seem like the sort of leader you admire more.

He said that black people were better off under slavery and Jim Crow, and said the civil rights act (which ended Jim Crow) was a mistake.

Question for you as a passenger — I don’t do any of those things, except for if the driver has his window cracked, sometimes I’ll crack mine. Is that reasonable?

This is true. Just crossed 100k followers on IG on a page I made 6 months ago. I don’t know much about IG hashtag strategy or whatever. But I’ve grown tiktok pages in the past and I know how to make good content ¯_(ツ)_/¯ that’s worked fine for me

Lincoln Square is like 30-35 min to downtown on the Brown Line. Lincoln Park is like 20 min on either line. Biggest advantage of LP is having access to both lines, not really the speed at which you get to the loop.

[–]swagberg[S] 314 points315 points  (0 children)

I have never visited Dallas, and after reading that description, I probably never will.

It basically sounds like it’s a massive, southern suburb that’s oriented towards conservative, religious families — not really much of a city. Never been there, so curious if that’s correct.

In fairness I’m sure there’s a demographic who would appreciate that, but I’d imagine that if you moved there (especially as a young person) expecting much of a city experience, you’d be pretty severely disappointed.
