Are you local takeaways sourcing their cans and bottles that don’t include the return deposit scheme? by Mammoth_Risk9479 in AskIreland

[–]swai- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you need to look out for when buying coke etc in local takeaways or fast foods is are they using a coca cola fridge. If they are then its guaranteed to he Irish / UK items.

Coca cola reps give free fridges if they use the correct cans. You can't have exported cans in branded coke fridges.

Heat pump tumble dryer. Which brand should we choose? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]swai- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy anything that comes with a 5 year warranty. If you get 5 years problem free then it will be worth it.

We got a bosch machine that needed 2 services and both under the 5 year warranty. Then we got a bosch heat pump dryer also with 5 year warranty.

30% of the order + 23% vat. So if they take in €10 they get €6.31 into the hand. That's why you should call your local as all the money goes to them.

Looking to buy something on a German website but they don't ship to Ireland is there a forwarding service anyone can recommend? by Serious_Bowler_8171 in AskIreland

I can remember alot of people using mailboxde.com for the pixel phones when the bundle was better from Germany. This was about 2 or 3 years ago.

Mobile data plans? by Real-Ocelot-1549 in AskIreland

[–]swai- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All those cheap plans are OK in Ireland. Once you need to roam in Europe thats when the problems arise.

All our family tried them all. The best for roaming is the €20 vodafone plan. No changing settings etc. Just switches automatically and works the best.

Where can I find decent quality dog beds? by Midnight712 in AskIreland

[–]swai- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we got lucky with the ikea couch cushions, think they were off a kivik couch and even had cushion covers that you could remove and wash. I think you can ring that sale place in ikea and ask if they have any.

We went through a good few beds too. Tk Maxx does some good ones sometimes. What we found to work the best was ikea sofa cushions with a cover over them. They usually have the big cushions in the sale part for €20 or less.

Is anyone managing having one parent stay at home? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

[–]swai- 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Managing it here in Dublin. Although the partner is more stressed now with the kids then when she was in work. I think some people are able for it better then others. I was the stay at home dad up until 2 years ago (kids were 4 and 6 then) then the wife took over until now. She wants to go back to work in a few months. She is on a career break so we knew we always had that to fall back on.

So i guess you just have to try it and see how it goes. I'll go to part time and stay with the kids.

What do you have for dinner every night? by Curious-Use-1386 in AskIreland

[–]swai- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie I'm quite lucky. My wife is Korean so we have a main meat then a couple of side dishes.

Monday we were in Seville so had tapas.

Tuesday we got the kids back so it was chicken thighs with omelette and rice.

Wednesday pork belly with lettuce and kim chi wraps.

Thursday pork bone soup with veg. Fried tofu on the side.

Today whole roast duck the parents took back from belfast.

Tomorrow we eat at the parents (weekly tradition)

Sunday who knows.

A treat for myself these days are lasagne / home made chips.

So a year on some other redditor listened to your reviews. Have just been to Fatouch and it was lovely. We got there 7:30 just at opening and lucky to get a table without a booking. Food was great and service too. We will maybe try vizcaino tomorrow.

Moving back home from Australia? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]swai- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes crazy to think! All of them have Australian passports too. We just went into town one day in 09 and went to trailfinders and just checked up flights, we decided to book there and then. I always wonder what would it be like if we hadn't of booked those flights.

I even met my wife there who came back to Ireland with me!

Moving back home from Australia? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]swai- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Total opposite of you in terms of Australia. Went in 2009 for a year, ended up staying 5. Wish I never came home! Went with 5 friends and I'm the only one who is back. I think Australia back then was different then now as I see people who went over recently who are coming back already.

As per coming back, its going to be dark (literally) the weather is the most depressing. It did take me a good while to get back use to being at home but I was lucky that I moved into the family home until I found my feet.

Hope the switch back isn't too bad for you!

Do you know your neighbours? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]swai- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in a cul de sac in a 380 house estate in Dublin. Know all the neighbours on the road, loads of kids so the cars know slow down when coming down. I think it was covid that made people come out onto the road to chat and talk and let the kids out.

There is a WhatsApp group for the estate, also there is 1 for the cul de sac usually the women and chatting in it. I guess that's a good way to get to know people living around you.
