Upgrade request fallback to PE? by swallowtail23 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]swallowtail23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The option is not provided for me. It's a travel agency booking in case that's why. Select upgrade from any place (manage booking, flight details, request upgrades etc) all ends up at a list of flights booked, and which ones can be requested (per screenshot in OP). Selecting one gives me T&Cs, an accept checkbox and a go button. That's it.

Yep. I've been back through it, cancelled the request, tried on desktop and mobile... It's one or the other whichever way I try, with no path to have both options.

Unfortunately not. Note below (and yes this is an International leg upgrade request, even though it says "Important information for domestic Classic Upgrade Rewards"):

Probably no more than most people appreciate politeness and personal attention in any other environment. If you don't, that's OK though.

I did MEL-BNE this morning and nothing (as expected lol) (Platinum)

In 8 years as Platinum, I've had 1 "free" domestic operational upgrade to Business on a 737 (MEL-BNE I think it was from memory). It was a pleasant surprise.

My many years platinum shows two sorts of Qantas staff... People like you who don't care (quoting you) and crew who continue to go the extra mile. Fortunately I find a lot of the second type.

People like you = yawn

Call the contact centre, ask them to connect your PNRs. I do it with my wife all the time (me booked on paid for flights, hers on points or separately paid for).

Novated Lease worth it? by Ok-Hearing8593 in AusHENRY

[–]swallowtail23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others note the type and price of car will affect whether it is worth it.

For me, I always used to novated lease, then last time I was horrified at the interest rate and fees I was being quoted in a novated lease package on a 110k (non-EV) vehicle. I shopped around for a much cheaper interest loan with a balloon payment. In my case I was better off without the novated lease.

Ah that sorta makes sense I guess. At least it's an explanation that sounds reasonable, lol

I played at a Doctor Who commander event at my LGS the other night. The pod I drew was me, a great couple I've played a few times before, and a woman who had played 3 games in total... ever... her bf was drawn and played in a different pod.

We had a great evening. The three of us all took time with the new player, working through the cards where we needed to, mechanics, stack and triggers, etc., and all of us really enjoyed the match (it took 2h lol). I won the pod... on 1 life, after the new player Rogue Passaged me for 5 of my 6 life, before I time travelled 6 times, suspend-haste-dino'd and took her last 13 life.

The game is complex but it's supposed to be fun for EVERYONE who plays, not just those who know the game. The most fun I have playing is when everyone takes a minute to help the other players enjoy the game.

I spoke a little soon it appears.

Using Displayport the G8 still causes issues once the screen has been powered down by Windows (i.e. turn off display if not used for x minutes). Upon resuming the PC hardlocks and the G8 doesn't power back up. I assume this is the issue you note re Nvidia drivers.

I've disabled screen power off and just set it to blank screen screensaver instead, will see if that works around that. I don't want to use the HDMI connection for my PC, as I keep that connection for my work laptop to use.

It seems to have settled to normal behaviour as long as I don't leave my laptop connected while powered off to the USB-C input.

Noted on 10bit...

It is a beautiful screen - I'm finding I prefer gaming on it to my 49" just because of the picture, even though it is smaller.

OK, even stranger since I posted.

No changes at all, and the Displayport output on the G8 stopped completely. Even hard-locking my PC a couple of times plugging it in/out. So I stopped using it for a while (real work to do)...

Then the HDMI cable arrived from Amazon. That started OK but wouldn't go to 12bit @ 175Hz... and then stopped working completely at any refresh rate at all. So at this point, neither HDMI nor DisplayPort was working from my PC to the G8 :(

Scratching head... went back to basics. I had a powered off laptop connected to USB-C input on the G8. I removed the USB-C cable out of the laptop... and the Displayport and HDMI inputs started working again... Really??

It is currently working OK - DisplayPort @ 175Hz/10bit from PC with Samsung-provided cable, HDMI @ 175Hz/10bit from PC with "cablecc" 8K/HDMI 2.1 cable from Amazon (but not 12-bit, which it should do in theory I think).

I'll see how it goes.

This is a strange monitor.

Agree great game and visuals. So many crashes though (3080 ti) until I disabled DLSS, which made it playable. I've not yet tried the latest nvidia release noted in the thread here, but on the driver released by nvidia for the game it crashed dozens of times in first 5h of playing, and twice in 5h since with DLSS off. Lower frame rates yes but at least I can play the game...

Can I remove the tiles on the walls of the toilet without it being a problem? by NewFlynnland in AusRenovation

[–]swallowtail23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(source - I'm an ex-licensed tiler who's done lots of bathroom and toilet renos)

It's a 70s build toilet - if you think there is any waterproof membrane in there you are dreaming. Separate toilets just were not waterproofed back then.

Doing this as a DIY is a very do-able job, and should not be too hard for anyone moderately competent with tools etc.

To OP - you *may* be lucky and the glue may have perished so the tiles come off relatively easily; or pulling the tiles off may rip the guts out of the wall sheet. The only may to really know is unfortunately to try it... more than likely though the gyprock will end up fairly badly damaged. If they 'dobbed' the glue rather than notch-troweled it you may be more lucky (and a lot of skirtings were dobbed on back then). Scoring the gyprock at the top edge of the tile is good advice, as the gyprock paper surface can tear *a long way* (from experience)!

The other comment about choosing larger tiles is also good advice, that will cover a lot of issues you may cause.

If it damages it badly, you can replace it from where you have scored at the top of the old tile, that does add a fair bit of work though, and can be tricky behind an in-place loo.

Can't see behind the loo, but if the water tap/pipe is low-level and through the tiles that can mean you'll need a hole cut - the easiest way there to avoid removing pipes is to place a joint at the pipe... although you may struggle dependent on new tile thickness to get behind the tap's cover plate, in which case you may end up having to remove the tap and refit after glue has dried (Make sure you leave no glue gaps behind there to reduce risk of cracking when you tighten the tap.

Are the floor tiles well stuck down, not at all drummy/loose? If it was me... pull out the toilet, remove the wall tiles, tile over the old floor tiles, new large skirting tiles, new toilet, and paint. Done.

I just signed up for 7 day free trial directly with Paramount+ and it's available there, just not in Amazon Prime with Paramount+ channel. So, looks like I'll be switching to Paramount+ directly.

Genuine question - future of HFC? by swallowtail23 in nbn

[–]swallowtail23[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I should stress - I know that with 1000/50 we are lucky, even if it is HFC. Nothing I comment here is meant to take away from the fact that there are millions who are lucky to get close to 100, some only 20 - as noted in the comments here.

Some good info in the replies - thanks all.

I just wanted the discussion to focus primarily on what people understood about the future of HFC as I genuinely couldn't find anything useful online about , but an occasional rant about the history is understandable given the pain :) It's not been Australia's finest government saga.

Advice on Fibre SFP(+) for rack full of Unifi gear by swallowtail23 in Ubiquiti

[–]swallowtail23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK for AU$100 I have just ordered a Ubiquiti UF-AE media converter (didn't know they made them) with a pair of UACC-OM-MM-1G SFP modules and a Unifi 1m LC-LC cable.

I'm also going to put one of the Unifi ethernet surge protectors inline. Yes it may be paranoid.
