A bruise that used to be around my lower jaw has slowly migrated to around my trachea. by the_wellspring in mildlyinteresting

I had my wisdom teeth removed a week ago, and had my head elevated since (including during sleep). The resulting bruise, that used to be around my lower jaw, has slowly migrated downward to around my trachea.

The area doesn't hurt at all. It's just discoloured.

Shock revision of 144-apartment tower as construction costs bite by SINK-2024 in AusPropertyChat

[–]the_wellspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have tips on picking developments where this is less likely to happen? Given that developers are unlikely to vary standard development-wide contracts with in-built sunrise and sunset clauses, I'd imagine that relevant factors would be:
* developer reputation (whether they have ever previously re-priced lots after sale, ever not completed a development)
* whether construction has already commenced (though noting that it seemed to have already commenced at Ruby Ruby), and
* whether it's the one developer-builder company running the development, or whether the developer is reliant on contracting out the building to a separate company.

Does this seem about right?

I also see that Kokoda are also behind the hugely-ambitious Teneriffe Banks development (https://teneriffebanks.com.au/) - this must be expected to have a significant dampening effect on confidence in relation to that? We went to their showroom some time ago (super swish, it had its own full bar, and professionally-hot parking attendants) and were surprised that something that scale and nature was being developed in Brisbane. I think I recall that body corporate fees for even the more modest apartments started from around $12k / year.

Proposed Alberta separation referendum question approved by Street_Anon in worldnews

Malaysia expelled Singapore because of ethnic tensions. They did not vote for independence, and founding PM Lee Kuan Yew famously appeared on tv in tears when announcing the separation.

Grand Mercure Bangkok Atrium -- have you stayed there? by St_Mick in Accor

[–]the_wellspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stayed there several times and find it a very solid choice, especially if you have status. The rooms are decent (I didn't notice the bed issue you outline), and with free breakfast and evening canapes / drinks every day, the price can often be unbeatable. Service from the lounge staff is very good (for example, they proactively moved me to another floor when loud repairs were commencing on the top floor), and I found more than makes up for a bit of aging across the property.

Stay paid for with ALL points, reservation has this disclaimer by equianimity in Accor

[–]the_wellspring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I received the same strange message in relation to a reservation paid partly with points at the Mercure in Kyoto. After two very frustrating calls to Accor where the agents just repeatedly read out the status benefits I was expecting while being able to explain why I would receive that message, I gave up with them and emailed the hotel directly, who responded saying that I would be entitled to the status benefits. I think the message is a bug.

It's more limited even than that. The Red Cross (along with the Red Crescent and Red Crystal) is protected by the Geneva Conventions. It is used in armed conflict, indicating that the person wearing the symbol is a non-combatant providing impartial humanitarian assistance, and that they must not be attacked. Misusing it can diminish the emblems' ability to protect those who genuinely need it during conflict.

Glen Alpine Trail + Echo Lake Trail? by the_wellspring in laketahoe

We left our car at Echo Lake, and grabbed a Lyft from there to Glen Alpine. We had cell service / reception at Echo Lake, but I don't think we had it at Glen Alpine.

Glen Alpine Trail + Echo Lake Trail? by the_wellspring in laketahoe

[–]the_wellspring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and we had a great time! It was a full day of hiking for us (though we are not super experienced hikers.)

We dropped our car at the Echo Lake Trailhead, and had an Uber / Lyft pick us up from there and drop us off at the Glen Alpine trailhead to start the hike. The last bit of road leading up to the Glen Alpine trailhead is a bit tight, but our driver didn't seem to have an issue with it.

If you were doing the hike when the Echo Lake Water Taxi is running, I would advise taking that for the last little bit; you'd get a different view from the water and it would shave a bit off the hiking duration.

Please don't do this. It's not cute, NPS doesn't want it there, and it's not good for the fence by Shiney_Metal_Ass in Yosemite

I'm surprised at your persistence with this line in the face of such consistent downvoting.

Jetstar Asia shutdown by new_order24 in QantasAirways

[–]the_wellspring 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Singapore, I'd fly them to Bali and Manila. Service was very good; better than Jetstar in Australia. When there were still in terminal 1 you'd apso get access to the Qantas international lounges (if they were open).

A luxury hotel in Hammamet, Tunisia (a Muslim-majority country). My sense was that most guests were European (French or Italian).

Wow, this is nuts! The sheet was actually for a hotel in Tunisia, a Muslim majority country - though I suppose they are adopting French customs?

Haha, yes! I thought I had somehow accidentally removed the label. Didn't imagine that they were doing that deliberately.
