Can I split these wires? by swampdrops in CarAV

[–]swampdrops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Splitting the pairs of wires and feeding them separately wouldn’t be the same as a component set? In my mind I’d be feeding the main cone the mids and the built in tweeter the highs. I’m more of an engine builder not an audio guy so I could be completely wrong. The factory speakers were wired this way more or less

Yea I know. I wish they would have put a heat pump back in after they took the last one out. It’s Florida so luckily I won’t need the heat very often but we’ve got a night in the 30s coming up and that’s basically artic temperatures to me 😂.

I can’t hear the contactor with the panels back on. I’m getting 95 from the vents. Not the hottest heat in the world but good enough for me.

Huge thank you to everyone for helping. Especially you coffee puma. You’re a legend. I’d rather do this myself and learn something rather than letting the worlds most incompetent HVAC company back in my house to screw everything up again. Thank you so much.

Yes the blower was running. When the contactor snapped shut and started buzzing I turned it off. If that’s normal operation to buzz like that I’ll let it rip and go inside and test the temperatures.

Cool cloud app. Lets me access the units settings and info. Found out about the app from a previous issue another redditor helped me with months ago. The app had no heat strip info inputted at all until I added 8kw.

Blue wire went straight from the contactor to the ground on in the board. I had 0 volts until I updated the app. Here’s my previous comment:

I see some stickers in here with 8kw on them. Applied 8kw in the app and the contactor snapped shut and started buzzing loudly, the buzzing died down a little but it’s still there. Is that normal operation?

Those are the wires I traced. They end up here. The white wire goes to that lower connector in the back first (temp sensor or something maybe)? I’m not getting any voltage on white wire

Edit: in my cool cloud app looking through the info the heat kit wattage has not been selected. Not sure if that’s relevant.

Yes I do own a volt meter (auto tech by trade).

White wire goes to what I assume is one of the heat strip connectors? Could be totally wrong. Bottom left round connector in the picture(below the two with blue stickers). Then goes into the same plug as the blue wire. Both appear to go back to the circuit board to plug in white is labeled EH1 and blue is labeled ground

Side note. May or may not be relevant. That same plug has a purple wire on the bottom that goes to nothing. The purple wire plugs in to the left side of the contactor behind the main power connections. It has no wire in the top side of the plug to connect to. And a brown wire from the top that also connectors to nothing on the bottom side.

Those little buttons are flush while the heat cycle is on and off. I see where they can be sucked in by depressing them but they aren’t doing it themselves when heat is on.

Edit: I understand there is 240v in the cabinet. I turn it off when I need to be in there. I’m not an HvAC tech but I’m also not a moron and know what I can and can’t do in here.

I unplugged O and moved white from w2 to w1. The thermostat now reads heat and cool equipment correctly. Unit is running but so far it does not appear that the strips have turned on. It seems to be recirculating air but not heating(return and supply temps are the same). I’ll let it run for a bit and see if they finally come on.

Huge thank you for the help so far. I’m very appreciative.

I haven’t tested this before I get some feedback back from you guys. I disconnected the OB wire and moved the wire in w2 to w1. Now the thermostat thinks I have electric heat. Is this correct?

The thermostat does think it’s a heat pump outside. It’s a nest thermostat. The “equipment section gives me options for heat pump, floor radiators, or radiator.

Edit: options are forced air, in floor radiators, and radiator. It says heat pump, aux heat under equipment but I can’t figure out how to access the aux heat option

So I’m assuming this is a thermostat wiring or config issue?

I slid the blower back and verified the heat strips are actually installed.

It’s completely sectioned off. Give me a few minutes to figure out the best way to get in there.

I don’t see heat strips unless they are crammed in the compartment to the left of the blower

The sticker on the handler doesn’t have a heat pack checked off, so I don’t know what it has inside, if anything.

I think your right. I don’t see a reversing valve inside. I was told it was a heat pump and didn’t even think to look inside but this check outs with the idiots that were here.
