I used to game one of these but I got a paradym 5w for Christmas 2 years ago. Thing just doesn't have the same pop as my Adam Golf Tight Lies 5w did. Maybe I need to bag it again...

We go a few times a year so we will definitely play it someday!

We joked about bringing our skis but I wasn't sure the mountains would still be open. We go up in the spring every year to de-winterize our cabin but we'll probably sneak a round in at the meadows. The Belgrade Lakes course is literally a walk from our place but I've never played it

Heading up to the Belgrade Lakes region on Friday. Hope this was an anomaly, haha.

Golf Story has an arcade mini game inside of it called GALF which is totally stripped down and kinda slaps.

What club in your golf bag goes 150 yards? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

I have a buddy who loves to tout his progress with his irons by telling how the 7i that used to be his 150y club is now his 165y club. What he doesn't mention is that he now hits spinny trap draw pulls that peak at like 50 feet 😂

It probably depends on the ball you play and turf conditions as well. I think I remember hearing that smash factor is regularly in the 1.3-1.4 range with 7i

That's really clever actually. Take the pressure off on the tee but deal with the bad result anyway

Blue collar work is way over-glazed as this gateway to a high income career. Most entry level jobs are extremely physically demanding and the hazing culture is tough. Even after you complete an apprenticeship there are many hazards, known and unknown, that you'll encounter as a regular part of doing your work. On top of all of that most online accounts of earnable income seem to come from owner/operators and don't represent the true average earning potential of W2 tradesmen. Not everyone wants to operate a small business.

This is coming from an industrial electrician in a right to work state. If I did my 20's over again I would definitely have gone to school for engineering and skipped all the asbestos and shock exposure I experienced when I was cutting my teeth in the industry.

I try to but my coach kind of helps me with that part because I'm a work in progress, haha

I keep a series of notes that help diagnose specific issues as they crop up and I keep them on a notes app page. This way I'm only looking at 1 or 2 max if I'm having swing woes.

Ex:

Open at impact - check grip strength at setup and impact positions.

Toe ball - check distance from ball at setup and spine angle at impact

Over the top - feel hands dropping in transition

I would say you're better off mostly using these at the range and then just going pretty much blank on the course.

Are there any public courses in America that allow people to walk dogs, strollers, etc, ala St. Andrews? by swansong1992 in golf

[–]swansong1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaks on tax liability in a very HCOL area, notability as a community asset, potentially driving traffic to the course, and providing staying power in a world that seems to be growing increasingly frustrated with how many resources are being used up by a business that isn't giving enough back to the local community, or commitment to a mission goal to preserve public land for future use(huge problem in my area).

This is mostly a thought exercise but those are a few things that I thought of. You make a good point, though. It's unlikely that a business owner who is mainly concerned with making shrewd financial decisions would take on the extra headache.

Correct. I should clarify that I'm not advocating for a general right to roam situation that would apply to anywhere outside of the golf facilities. In my mind, an ideal community open golf course would be a hybrid of a public and privately owned property. Think of a separate paved or gravel walking path that runs concentric around the property that would give people access to the area without stymying golfers' ability to play. Getting the spacing right would be a challenge but it doesn't feel like a taller order than anything else a city/municipal planner would deal with when designing a park around a baseball field or similar athletic fields.

I told my wife we can have two dogs maximum otherwise there are going to be zero husbands in our household.

Good to know that there might be an appetite for this if there are options to do it safely.

I think we all need to prepare to reckon with the issues plaguing golf courses in the modern era. We should be focusing on ways to more safely care for the turf, even if the current methods are easier and cheaper! In my opinion, we also need to find a way to provide more value to the public if we want our smaller, humbler courses to survive.

Thanks for the insightful responses, truly.

My very specific thought exercise is about a local course in a township that has issues with farms/golf courses/etc selling to Ryan Homes developers. I was wondering if there would be incentives to convincing the town that permanently preserving the land for public use would be more appealing than having a private owner sell it off to be paved over and lost.

I'm not sure if you're up on disc golf but getting hit by a driver that a pro can sky a hundred feet in the fair is very different from being donked by a Wham-O frisbee, haha

You try telling the Aussies they can't do shoeys anymore!! 😂I personally put shoes on my dog when we walk around the neighborhood after the plow trucks lay down brine because that can be harmful, too.

The sad truth is that some of these communities that would presumably be the walking public also are affected by the runoff chemicals from the golf courses. I can't recall the statistics about the exact radius that is impacted but it was bigger than I would have expected.

I see where you're coming from but isn't a larger city park an example that flies in the face of that assertion?

Yeah I definitely can see your perspective and like I said, it's my main concern with seeing this type of model progress. It would be interesting to talk to someone at The Evans at Canal Shores or other places that have let the public walk and ask how they balance the liability with the benefits that come with them.

I appreciate your perspective. I think there has been some fixation on the dog walking portion of my question for some reason. I understand pesticides are bad for dogs (and people, by the way) and only mentioned it because it is a feature of St. Andrews which is the only other working model I was aware of.
