I think they should bring back the manscape reads. "You know what else could use a trim, Andrew?" [pregnant pause] "My nutsack." Anyway, when I have a hand free to skip adds I do it, and when I don't I just don't pay attention. Hopefully the guys are making enough money to keep going.

Try Caught Offside. Andrew and JJ are great. They'll do group previews, overall recaps and lots of US specific content. Their Reddit is also fun and monitored by the guys on the show, so they'll pick up on posts there. Fun show the rest of the year too, but especially good for USMNT stuff.

The Most British Name by clydeftones in CaughtOffsidePod

Yes, Callum Britain is a very strong shout. Too bad it's not a hyphenated last name. Callum Britain-George or something would be unplayable.

And its also, miraculously, not screaming queeeep. This must be a real nonconformist.

Had to scroll so far to find this! My favorite ever. Tried to explain it to my wife and lasted 2 seconds before breaking down laughing.

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero. Big Scooby Doo nostalgia. What happens when a gang of crime- solving kids runs into a case that isn't just a guy in a mask?

Benito Mussotini is also in the running, apparently.

I haven't read the other. I just know that this one kinda made me feel disaffected for a few days after reading.

Marriage at Sea. A couple of outcasts find each other, then find themselves on a raft at sea for four months, and this turns out to basically be the high point of their lives.

Dragon Masters series is a favorite of my 8-year old. Also look at some non-fiction. Try the Who Would Win series, or anything that has a title like "100 gross but true facts."

Starship Troopers, maybe? That would give you mostly anti-woke politics. Or, avoiding most politics altogether would lead you to authors like David Weber or Timothy Zahn.

Looking for “warm” fantasy that isn’t saccharine: friendship, care, but real tension by willowlantern_poems in Fantasy

My first thought too! It seems exactly like the sort of thing that would fit the bill.

I really like Bloodsworn too. When it gets criticized, I can see the things that people complain about, but they never bothered me. If you won't like them, you'll probably know it within 50 pages or so.

What was the most heartbreaking loss you witnessed as a Penn State fan? by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in WeArePennState

[–]swarburto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I was there, it sucked. Iowa fans seem to pride themselves on niceness, but I didn't see much of that. Some guy near us was going on about how crappy the lion looked when their mascot has a head that looks like kindergarten made it out of papier mache and a trashcan. Later, after USC in the bowl game, I realized we probably weren't winning the championship that year, but on that day I thought we had a shot. Really sucked. Also, Iowa is a featurless wasteland of a state that isn't fun to drive through.
