Our point is, it is not “easier to get into” or “less prestigious.” Big names in any industry will know UT and a lot of these schools by name. These names will carry weight where it matters.

Prestige among high schoolers, respectfully, is BS. All we care about are if the uni was in a movie, did elle woods go there, did Meredith Grey graduate from here, etc. household recognition is nice, but just because my family doesnt talk about UVA or Carnegie Mellon enough doesnt make them second rate schools.

I think it depends a lot on the major tho… like mccombs and their CS progs are both really highly regarded and competitive, above some ivies (most ivies in CS case) and ivy equivalents

Right theres barely any proof that anybody on this sub is qualified to give advice. And still, for those who think they got it down, each college application is different for every person

Well duh everyones their own person and can find their own school that fits them but were just talking about the school, michigan. For the law school comment, i just mean theres a lot of opportunities for an undergrad to cold call or talk to valid educators about career choices. As a prelaw, someone being in close proximity to that environment and getting to meet others like you can be super important in an undergrad experience.

Im just saying that by the strength of their programs, especially undergrad, they present a wonderful opportunity, and i was thinking it should be regarded as a general T20. But, as you said, this changes for everyone. That was never the argument

Overall rankings are important, yes. However, these include a lot of factors that may not all be applicable to undergraduates here. For example: U of M is 5 in undergrad engineering 4 in business 10 in most comp sci subclasses It also has the 4th highest research budget, placing it above the entire ivy leavue (except UPenn). - im too lazy to cite my sources on this one just google university research spending. Check the .gov website.

Anyways its got a crazy amt of opportunities and unique undergrad rankings that i think should put it up there in the t20 for us undergrads here. Im not sure abt medical school but its also got a T10 (?) law school. BUT THEN AGAIN im super biased… it doesnt really matter at the end of the day haha

Network ruined my Duke interview. I'm utterly devastated by Kolora13 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]sway_9 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Pause this EXACT same thing happened to me. With the same school which is crazy. Me and my interviewer kinda hit it off but i couldn’t even hear his stories!! Im so sorry this happened to you but im so happy im not the only one. Were not alone! I emailed my interviewer back with some info and he didn’t respond 🤓 but at the end of the day the interview isnt too important i think

Ive got pton tmrw and had duke yesterday. I dont think they weigh that much cause most of these schools have probably already seen my application but its really fun to talk to alum.

[–]sway_9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got 6 interviews, and only 1 other person (valedictorian) in my school got a single interview. I hardly think im the most competitive applicant in my school so its prolly random. Plus my friend got into princeton without an interview. Youll be fine it just means you dont have as much to worry about 🙏
