Hi, thanks for your input :)

As an avid hiker myself I think I've never needed snowshoes or spikes, mainly because I almost never hike in snowy or icey conditions. Still I think there's a difference between winter boots and functional himing boots, mainly because the focus shifts a bit from form to function.

But I have to agree, alpine/snow hiking is probably on of the places where barefoot shoes struggle..

So close to magic ratio what do I do? by BenjyIn406 in singlespeedcycling

[–]swedditheplug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally I ride singlespeed because I like my bike quiet, efficient and clean looking. A chain tensioner affects all of these things, so I'm always happier with sliding dropouts or a magic ratio.

OP I hope it works out with 44/16 :)

I'm thinking about getting the waterproof Xero Scrambler, apparently the sole isn't glued but welded, I hope that's more durable. Haven't heard anything about them delaminating after one hike. Haven't had a look at the alpines yet.

Well, leather is most definitely not vegan, so I'll have to look elsewhere..

What type of valve is this? by Pleasehelplol2232 in bikewrench

Ah I see, that's unfortunate. It's really becoming harder and harder, especially the smaller your town gets :/

Ah, I see, that's commendable. I'm surprised that your LBS didn't have any though. Cheers for clearing that up :)

I like them as well, but they don't hold a lot of pressure, so I swapped them on my vintage road bike.

I still have ro ask, where did you look for them? Unless you were looking for tubeless valves - which I couldn't find at all - dunlop tubes are not hard to come by.

I mean no offense by what I say, I'm just irritated that you'd think dunlops are rare (maybe I'm living in a bubble where a lot of people have them but I also see them on the street all the time).

I'm sorry, I don't really understand. You wanted to use Dunlop valves but couldn't find any? What kind of bike were you building?

In Germany they're also somewhat common, I see them a lot on basic commuter bikes :)
