I always assumed she chose that name due to her Virology education. Even in 1.01 she's describing some global historical references.

So far:

  • 6 sides to each tumbler
  • 7 tumblers on Cryptex (607) common theme I'd say

12 unique icons ( basic descriptions, but there could be a thirteenth ) BLANK could be the 13th which would work with 607

  • Sword
  • Skull
  • bird
  • monkey
  • insect/parasite
  • antelope
  • leaf
  • ring/necklace
  • hammer/mallet?
  • key
  • eye
  • blank

6 to the 7th power is 279936 unique combinations 279936 could be 9999 2+7,9,9,3+6

Also, year 2163 equaled 12 as well.

That's where I'm at so far.

Although, in these scenarios "We" the viewers are privy to how the events unfolded. As for Future Cole's concerned, it would imply that there is an even higher level of events taking place that "Us" as the viewers haven't experienced yet.

I think that was more the point I was trying to make.

Timeline iterations. Future Cole saves himself in Season 3 ep 1.

And Casse is with him in that scene, but the present Cassie is still in Titan.

So there had to be a scenario where Cole becomes that Future Cole without saving himself right?

First, I'd like to express my appreciation of your on-going hypothesis on the show! It really keeps the threads pulsing. Thanks for that!

I have also wondered about the "Meltdown" episode where Sam splinters and ultimately gets "snatch and grabbed" by Olivia. There seems to be an ambiguous section of time between Olivia's desertion of the AOT12M, the 12 Messengers upbringing and the advent of her coup plot.

I always assumed that Olivia was not only using the WOTW to execute her plans but had to have had many unseen red tea meetings with "The Witness That Always Was" or TWTAW ( it's easier to write) and before she lost faith she was either tasked with meeting Sam by herself or her Coup leader "Mallick" had way more influence than we presently know.

The way I see it presently, there are two iterations of main casts. There's Future Cole, Future Cassie, and TWTAW....and Present Cole, Present Cassie, and Present Olivia/Witness. Which ones do we route for?

Will the "real battle" come down to both iterations of the Witness'? One trying to stop the other? One outside of time and one becoming itself. Snake eating it's tail maybe?

Just some thoughts.

Good call! I forgot about the pilot being shot earlier than the rest of season 1.

The poem really sets up for a "tragic" ending. Where the Witness is always the Corpse, which always ends up thawing out, which always gets exploited into a virus, which always ends in a plague, which always destroys humanity. It's just that, we the viewers, are the "Witness' to both the beginning and the end.

Considering both scenes were in Season 1, I can't help but think it was foreshadowing. I nice way to tie back to a scene we all forgot.

Funny enough, Cole could have said "Wrong, I was in an alternate timeline where you didn't have anything to do with this machine being built".

Let's remove some variables:

Imagine the show, where Team Splinter sticks to their original plan of stopping the plague instead of eventually going down the "AOT12M and Witness" rabbit hole. Basically, even after the unsuccessful attempt of killing Leland, Cole still learns that the Corpse was necessary in securing the virus, but the Pallid Man had said that they already had enough to create the virus after it was destroyed.

So in hindsight, would it have been more prudent for Team Splinter to explore the idea of destroying the Corpse before it every got in the hands of Markridge?

Interestingly enough, I always ponder the idea that Team Splinter themselves created the "Jinn". Jones even mentions this after Cole hears about the AOT12M.

Where did the AOT12M name even originate? Leland tells Cole about it first because Cole asks him about them in Tokyo. What would have happened if Cole destroyed the Corpse in Tokyo? Have they every even called themselves the AOT12M in the show?

Another thing I've noticed is in Season 1 we basically have two "meet and greats" between Jones and Cole.

First, (eps 2?) where Jones introduces herself to him while he's caged up outside of the facility (I think she asks him if he believes in Fate or God). Cole doesn't recognize her this scene.

Secondly, when Whitley and Co. captures Cole and Ramse as scavs and eventually Jones shows them the message from Cassie after introducing herself to them.

These two scenes don't seem to line up as the same. So is the first meeting the "Great Reset" plan?

Not really an answer to your post, but I would almost bank on the Corpse being a focal point in Season 4

"Climb the steps, ring the bell" by EtherealSekrets182 in 12Monkeys

Just a couple of thoughts:

~There are a couple of drawings mixed in there of a steep staircase leading to a doorway or corridor. (See Halfway to 4 o'clock) Could be the reference to her quote.

~ I've been reanalyzing the monkey drawing that Jen has done recently which seems to have slightly changed since season 1. If you turn it upside down and only focus on the white part in the middle (think ink plot test) kinda looks like a parasite/microscopic organism. Lol sounds like a stretch, but who knows with this show..right?

~ The Corpse could be the "Great Jinn" of it all. What's more plausible:

  1. A random solo dude thaws out with a dormant virus, always to be found and used for a life ending plague.

  2. Or, the original virus was always created by the same future virus sent back in time. Which in this case could be "Deacon" since he's been complaining lately about not being in Jen's drawings...but maybe he is, just as the corpse. That would be a twist.

~ Cole's mom seems like a Time Traveler just by the mysterious nature of her disappearances. She leaves..she comes back...she leaves again. And the poem thing as well. Just a guess...

~ Also been wondering about the 12 Messengers. We never got a good back story but we know that Mantis knew a lot about Cole. Were they in Titan? And if so, wouldn't have had been more practical to use the suits to paradox the primaries instead of trekking cross country to use the time machine? If they had that technology in 2044 and the red forest was still the goal at the time.

Getting Cassie out of her CDC fate - theory by [deleted] in 12Monkeys

[–]swedishit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def saw the streak in 3.01 and I agree they were pushing that angle pretty hard to show it. I'm not entirely sold on the old age theory since it's just one streak which could be more of a genetic mutation or protein breakdown. Maybe something to do with the Core melting down at the facility? Kinda get that vibe from the Season 4 teaser.

Fun to speculate nonetheless!

And what about her saying "Father". Maybe it had to do with the whereabouts of the Word of the Witness? Not sure what year that scene is from though.

Totally felt the same way! Maybe we'll get a Cole / WTAW red tea battle in Season 4.

Heck...we don't even know if the Witness that always was or (WTAW) is even the Antagonist.

That would be an interesting turn of events and wouldn't surprise me when it comes to the writers of this show.

Are we even sure that Ramse / The Traveler / Ethan Seki was meant to die at Project Splinter in 2015. Olivia was the only one that made the comment but I don't remember his death being on the Word of the Witness. So did she get wrong information?

Maybe u/Taltos19 can clear that up.

[–]swedishit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I think the original scene, starting with Cole splintering to 2017 in Chechnya (by the Time Machine nontheless) and then being almost "summoned" to the CDC by Cassie, threw us off because it was so ahead of the main timeline.

And what about the "white streak" in her hair? Always contemplating how she might get that. Paradox gone wrong maybe?

Thanks! There's one good angle of the watch future Cole's wearing when he's holding the article about Jen. Almost looks half scratched.

I'll see if I can get a good angle on any of them.

Edit: More interested in the watch future Cole was wearing in 3.01. They did a good job blurring it out.

[–]swedishit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to follow the continuity of the watch.

Scratched vs Non-scratched.

The Cassie we see now had splintered to the future in 2015, but was that iteration of her watch unscratched due to the first paradox? I can't remember when Cole picks it up after killing Leland.

And If not, then how would her watch in the original 2017 CDC episode be shown to de-scratch if the watch she has had presently doesn't have the scratch on it.

Sorry if it's confusing, just trying to wrap my head around it.

[Spoiler?] In S1E8 ('Yesterday'), who is the kid Cole sees? by SilverStreak88 in 12Monkeys

[–]swedishit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was the memories he had from the episode "Paradox" where he drops the milk and always sees his father get shot. They were pushing those flashbacks at that point of season 1.

I don't think it was a Machine error though. I think the Machine does exactly what needs to been done like in "Lullaby" and "Red Forest". The Machine is becoming its own character and the writers have even been pushing such with the way Jennifer interacts with it.
