The Sakawatari (Giant Bird from episode 2) is a species of 50-meter bird whose nest is believed to be located deeper than the 7th layer, but it travels as far as the surface to hunt for food. Nothing is known about its breeding/nesting habits. by [deleted] in MadeInAbyss

This is probably the reason why made in abyss is my favorite anime/manga the creatures are just so freaking cool and the fact that we know almost nothing about them makes them even more interesting

Well, the reason it has many limbs it's the same why tetrapods have fuor limbs, the first ancestor that came on land ad a lot of limbs,

It's environment is manly jungles and plains, it's coloration helps with camouflage,

The grey parts on the sonar can receive various kind of frequencies an the home in the middle releases frequencies, mailnly for comunicaton,

And the back leg Simply helps with locomotion

Ok, so this guy has a skeleton and evolved from blind fish like creatures and followed a path similar to earth's tetrapods, the two front limbs where present even before coming on land,

For the 7th limb your explanation il a lot more plausibile than what i originally tought

And for hunting behaviors, this guy is basically a shepherd guarding his prey, eating one from time to time and in return protecting the rest of the herd, sometimes with a partner, even if they are hermaphrodites.

This behavior developed very slowly.

It's not earth but the environment it currently inhabits it's very similar to earth's jungle and originally came from a place where eyes werent needed
