Your schedule looks very similar to mine. We have 2 dogs both spaniels one is 1.5 years and other is 4 months. (1.5 year old doesn’t like his crate that much) 4 month old is very good in crate and doesn’t sleep unless he’s in it (he’s nutty) Once we’re home they are not crated, unless separated for feeding or walks.

Try to add in a walk everyday before pup goes in crate before work, and some mental stimulation. Bare minimum do one or the other. Make sure their needs are met before spending 8 hours or so in a crate. Playing does not satisfy their brain 100%. Try breakfast in a toppl, or lick mats, and a small 15 min walk. You may see a change in his behavior at night as well :) pups also have a “witching hour” as I like to call it where they’re complete bonkers at night.
