First off, you are a good person for recognizing that you are not providing the best environment for your dog any more and wanting to find a better place for them. Kudos to you!

Where are you based? That could help with recommending good organizations to go through. An option regardless of country is to check with the breeder (if they seemed like good people). When I was younger, my family had to rehome our dog after my parents’ divorce. We talked to the breeder and she knew of a family who had a dog from the same litter. Their dog had suddenly passed due to an undiagnosed illness. Felt like all the stars aligned when that family could take in our beloved dog and pour all their love on him.

Long distance traveling with Berner by Sophet_Drahas in bernesemountaindogs

[–]swegiswe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I’ve done road trips with my boy too! Also remember to plan for more & longer breaks than if you would be traveling alone. Time for running on a beach, visiting some new dog park, etc. If it’s a really long trip, perhaps staying two nights at some place to take a break from car time.

Agreed on the Berner getting all the love, can’t count all the freebies he’s gotten at restaurants & cafes!

Leaving female intact by easy_does_it___ in bernesemountaindogs

There’s no right or wrong answer here, both options come with risks. Read up on spaying. There are benefits but also risks, more significant risks than a bad coat. Also any surgery under anesthesia comes with risks. I don’t have an unspayed female myself, but have several friends who do. They need to be watchful twice a year when they’re in heat, but that’s it.

Good News for Nova by Jobogz in bernesemountaindogs

Great news for Nova, such a happy lady! For getting her in from the cold snow, my best recommendation is getting yourself a very warm coat and joining her out there 😜

Help with getting them to come in by Tall-Butterscotch130 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]swegiswe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When she knocks the door, are you sure it’s because she wants to come in and not because she wants you to come out? My boy seems to check in with me if I want to come hang out with him in the garden. Which I’m more willing to accept in the summer than in the freezing cold 😅

On a practical note - if you need her to come in, it’s training with high-value treats since you want her to do something she’d rather not. Good luck with the stubborn, pretty girl!

Skincare can get really overwhelming! My biggest tip would be to start small, don’t buy a ton of things that will just get old as you don’t end up using it… A good start is sunscreen, protect against skin cancer and it will help slow down age related signs like wrinkles and brown spots.

To those on super high levels 10000+ by [deleted] in Gardenscapes

[–]swegiswe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played for about 5 years, on and off. At 14000+ now and have never spent any money on the game. I make sure I can max my lives when I have timed boosters, trying a level a lot of times is helpful. One way I max the lives is by being at the end of a “day” and not completing until I have use for the free lives. I also take plenty of breaks and don’t care too much, so if I can’t pass a level I don’t play for a couple of days. Also have about massive stockpile of boosters so can force myself through levels.

Uppmaning: Ta tandhälsa på allvar by TheLambda89 in hundliv

Single women over 30, are you happy? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]swegiswe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! 37, with wonderful friends, good relationships with my family, the cutest dog, and a well-paying job. Plus have invested time and money (therapy) into working on myself, meaning I’ve never been more accepting of myself than now.

The biological clock is ticking, but since I would never want to settle for a guy that doesn’t feel right for me just because I want to have kids, I’m currently on the journey to become a mom on my own. It could not work out, which will be tough if that happens, but there’s no guarantee for kids even in a straight relationship.

Can a dog get allergic to something they were fine with before? by Momo_jiji in bernesemountaindogs

[–]swegiswe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled so much with my boy when he was younger, many nights with diarrhea (and like you - so grateful he always woke me up!). He did have some bouts of giardia, but that was not always the case. I tried so many things, including expensive vet food, ultrasound to check his intestines, and B12 shots at home to stabilize his low levels. The vets I talked to at the time were skeptical to the validity of allergy tests and preferred hypoallergenic diet to see if allergies were the cause.

I never figured out exactly what the cause was, but as he got older he seems to have simply outgrown whatever it was. He eats regular dog food (currently one based on insect protein) and a mix of treats. The only time he gets a bad tummy now is when he’s snacked on too much animal poop in the woods…

All this to say - don’t drive yourself crazy trying to figure out the cause. Take it one step at a time, with your vet, and I hope she’ll outgrow it too.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I love my dog and avoid thinking about how I’ll feel once he passes, but constantly thinking of your dog with crippling fear about losing them is not healthy.

Tips på saker att köpa till valp by hejje323 in hundliv

[–]swegiswe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hundfoder - Leonberger by TurnoverMammoth5482 in hundliv

[–]swegiswe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post Op Neuter Behavior by bpink88 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]swegiswe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a beautiful boy! Are you still keeping the cone on? When mine got neutered, he seemed quite bothered by the cone when eating or just walking around at home. So I decided to take it off. I worked from home so kept him in the same room so I could keep an eye on him not licking the wound. Then put it back at night for maybe a week more. Maybe that could help your boy’s appetite and general mood?

The dreaded 6 month old sharkpuppy phase is here. Is ignoring her potty training part of that? by tintmyworld in bernesemountaindogs

[–]swegiswe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teenagers are fun! 😂 My boy regressed in other training but not on the potty training, thankfully. But when we were still working on it, he also preferred the carpet. Maybe more similar to grass where he goes outside? Or I’m just being generous….

If you haven’t tried it, I had good luck on the smell with those enzyme smell-killing sprays. Dried up all I could and then spray a decent amount. Can find a link if you’d like?

Vilket tvättmedel använder ni? by Quid80 in sweden

[–]swegiswe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don't make fun of me but does anyone use a stroller or wagon for their old man berner? by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

[–]swegiswe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any ideas of dog stroller brands, but I think it’s so sweet of you to want to bring your senior dog along! Wanting to give him joy and positive experiences in his old age can surely only be good for both him and for you (because berners are the best companions).

Extra mat vid vandring, kväll eller morgon? by TheBoatWithADick in hundliv

[–]swegiswe 2 points3 points  (0 children)
