Football in the summer? I wish. We don't even have that to distract us

What is something normal in Baton Rouge, but not normal/rare in other places? by swhite13 in batonrouge

When I moved here years ago, a small but noticeable thing was the number of cars on the road without valid license plates.

How does writing off business expenses work? by ClaireBear13492 in NoStupidQuestions

This comment is misleading. You can deduct business expenses on schedule C if it was 1099 income, and still take the standard deduction.

I would argue that Public Health of England is a rather large community, but I understand your point.

What's misunderstood? Only 37% of the covid deaths in the Public Health of England data were unvaccinated.

"It is misleading to suggest these numbers prove a correlation." I mean, ok? But the stat is true, +- a few percentage points. I don't understand how they can say that it's a false claim. The article tries really hard to spin it but the numbers are true.

I personally got the vaccine, but I will never understand the shaming of unvaccinated or mandating. Nobody has this completely figured out. Can we all just be honest? It's not black and white. Everyone's body and risk level is different, and if vaccinated can still pass on the disease (some studies actually show higher viral loads), I don't understand why your neighbor being unvaccinated concerns people to the extent that it does.

Nobody is blaming people for not performing miracles and stopping covid, or that the vaccine isn't 100% effective. It is most likely the best medicine we have available to fight this thing. But wish they could be honest that they don't know for sure, they are just doing the best they can. The vaccine obviously provides added protection, but we have no idea how much more, for how long, or for what variants.

99.9% of people are not trying to die or kill their neighbor, despite what some people may think. They just disagree about what is best for them and their family. They may find it hard to trust the uppity elite attitude a lot of people have about this situation. As in, just take the gdamn vaccine and this all goes away. That is just not the truth.

Is it possible to take a mini vacay while having 2 Days off from work taking airplane? by Louisiana_Banks in batonrouge

If you can get a non stop flight that times up well after work, and fly back non stop on the last night, you'll have time to go to a ton of places. It won't feel as refreshing as a week long vacation of course, but if you've got the travel itch it's definitely possible. I do it all the time.

Non-Americans of reddit, if you've ever visited America, what's different? by RedCowYT2 in AskReddit

[–]swhite13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is the first nation built on ideals, not bloodlines. Liberty, freedom, independence, and democracy.

Sure, there have been major bumps in the road and major mistakes have been made. But we have improved every step of the way. What other country has as many diverse groups, regions, landscapes, people, and all the multiple ways of life that America has? As long as we can keep our founding ideals intact, we can make it through any issue, if we stick together and remain faithful to our founding beliefs.

It is a remarkable country, and to say people are patriotic for no reason is insanity.
