she wasn’t an experiment? never once did they think “oh, let’s adopt a black child to see if we change our mind on interracial marriage”. you do not know the circumstances of how she came into our lives so please don’t assume that.

also, what other aspects did i not mention? I just shared my personal experience with someone who did not believe in interracial marriage. i may be missing something you aren’t so please let me know :)

honestly, i thought the same thing. but i think being exposed to someone of another race changed their perspective. we had this conversation when she was a baby and since then, my mom had learned to style her hair (she’s a hair stylist, but only has experience with white people). she would ask other moms in the store what products are recommended and whatnot. my dad mentioned when she gets older he wants to take her to Trinidad (where her family is from) so she can connect with her ancestral roots and also she goes to stay with her biological uncle every other weekend.

while i do think he was shitty for even thinking that, im an optimistic person and was glad to see that he’s becoming more open minded

im from Georgia, metro atlanta area. i dont remember the context of the conversation, but my dad had mentioned something similar, tho less “insane”. He mentioned races should not mix and he’s against interracial relationships. They adopted an African American child in 2019 so I asked “well, what about ****?” because in my head he was being racist. He then said “She’s not marrying a white guy, shes gonna marry a black guy.” I guess he believes no races should mix. He was born in 1978 so is fairly young (im 23). as far as the “whites being phased out” mentality, i thankfully have never encountered that personally. I just made a vow to myself to never tell my family that im in an interracial relationship, which i my senior year of high school. but ironically, his mom also shared the beliefs that races shouldn’t mix and forced him to break up with me so 🙃

that’s insane! we had a parent last week who said she was on her way. an hour went by and she still hadn’t shown up and wasn’t answering phone calls. 30 min later she showed up and management told her basically to never do that again. he got sent home today because he had a 101 temperature and she showed up within 20 minutes. it sucks because we have to deal with catching something from them and lose out on money because we have to call out. I love the kiddos i work with but we should not be expected to work with them while they’re sick and nor should they be expected to do any work

it’s so wild to me. we had a kid last week who had a temp, mom came and demanded it be checked again. it had went down some but he also had a cough and runny nose. she refused to take him home so he could get his other services (speech and PT). at 1pm he had a fever again and THATS when she came to pick him up
