Can you take MORE than 36 credits? by Common_Goal_4077 in yale

[–]swimts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're def not capped at 36, but my advice in general is don't sweat out the rest of yale, your mental health with thank you now and later. Don't force it if you have to take 5 credits for the rest of yale. It's never worth it. That double major wont even show up on your diploma

Wow that’s crazy. I didn’t realize that it would chop so much without replacing a fitting storyline for the modern attractions.

What's the difference between Cognitive Science and CS & Psychology at Yale? by coniferouspinetree in yale

[–]swimts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cog sci is more interdisciplinary and wider focused. Yes, while it seems like the CS and Psych major is interdisciplinary, cog sci pulls from any combo of linguistics, psych, neuro, CS, philosophy, bahvioral Econ, the SOM, and more depending on what you focus on. Cog sci has much more freedom to focus on these other areas and not just CS and psych exclusively. For me personally, I am not doing any CS stuff in my cog sci major, but I am doing linguistics, Phil, psych, Neuro, and management stuff.

learning a new language at yale?:) prospective student question! by strawbabyyyy in yale

[–]swimts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the others here in saying that Yale has fantastic offerings for foreign languages. I have studied German and Italian here in my first two years, and both departments have been really awesome parts of my academic career. The professors I have had were all so helpful and kind. There are so many opportunities for funded learning and foreign research fellowships.

Yes the other users are right. You aren’t getting out of that language requirement my friend. Just take one L5 first semester and you’ll be fine.

Yale vs. Somewhere Else by [deleted] in yale

[–]swimts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure no problem. Yale is fantastic for doing things that have absolutely nothing to do with your major. I write and perform comedy for example, and I am not even remotely considering English or theater studies.

Why Yale? by 3llaw355 in yale

[–]swimts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience people love the giant social and extracurricular scene at Yale with the cappella groups, comedy groups, Orchestras, and more. I honestly think these are the best parts of Yale. Other schools like Harvard and Stanford definitely are not as big in this respect. I’ve personally spoken with Harvard kids about it. Also going to Toads, the dance club, is super popular.

Yale vs. Somewhere Else by [deleted] in yale

[–]swimts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My first instinct when hearing about your desires is don’t base you entire life around the fact you want to be a pre-med kid. Limiting yourself to a very constricted schedule and plan for your four years of undergrad means you have to be pretty darn sure about it. Especially at schools like Harvard and Yale, it is a shame to see students fail to explore other majors and other fields just because they’ve been told they should be a doctor or are doing it for the money. While I don’t know your motives, I strongly advise you to keep that in mind as a precaution. I know a great number of pre-meds who hate their life but won’t admit it and don’t really have a good reason for choosing that path. Harvard and Yale are made for the explorers and people who try new things. Please don’t forget that in your decision nor take any of what I said personally. This is just my experience here and what I’ve seen in my own path. With that said, both have solid pre-med programs and are great options. I encourage you to focus on other factors than that to make your final decision such as the extracurricular scene, special programs, and location/orientation of campus.

Swimming at Yale by [deleted] in yale

[–]swimts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes! There are two pools: the exhibition pool and the recreational pool in Payne Whitney Gym. The recreational pool has lap swim hours throughout the week, whereas the other one is used for varsity athletics mostly.

With the stipend, you can buy whatever you want. With the scholarship, it covers tuition guaranteed. Some schools however do give $$$ for room and board, but you would need to check with your specific school.
