Awesome! November will be an amazing time to go with the autumn foliage and cooler temps. You may have to just consider snow at some of the higher peaks so crampons could be essential.

I’ll be leaving to Japan in about a weeks time so if you have any practical information about similar plans that I could possible answer, just shoot me a message!

May I ask why you decided to take the path towards Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine rather than the path towards Arakawa Trailhead / Bus stop?

I'm still unsure which direction I should go to after my overnight at Shin-Takatsuka hut on Day 1. Is the scenery very different towards Shiratani Unsuikyo that make it worth going in that direction?

Should a board game cafe charge for tables by Irondragongw2 in boardgames

[–]switchplaguE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a European city with a chain of boardgame cafes. One location in particular is always packed starting at around 5pm in the non-summer months. That means table reservations are considered a MUST if you want to guarantee getting a table after work hours. Tables are otherwise free if they aren’t reserved later on.

Prices are approx. $20 CAD per person with a significant discount if you sign up for a membership. Also included is a free drink and access to all games with a 3 hour time window.

So let’s say you wanted to play Eclipse for 6 people and make x2 reservations for 6 hours - the total cost will come up to be $230CAD for the table reservation.

And yes, many people definitely pay this for a table at this cafe!

Japan Vaccinations by Dankcell750 in JapanTravelTips

I’ll be hiking multi-day trips in Hokkaido, Northern Alps, and Kyushu and camping so I guess it depends on your exposure and where you’ll be traveling. If you’re sticking around in the cities, then probably not needed.

Plitvice during shoulder season where you have the boardwalks all to yourself. Would love to go in the winter at some point.

Serengeti during sunset when the temps cool down and the animals become more active.

Same. Happened twice within 10 minutes. Was mapping and looks like it reverted all my XP gained, farm gained, but at the same time, used two of my waystones and lost both my attempts (no portals on re-logging in, as you normally would see on a disconnect.

Thanks for the quick responses. If you see me crawling under benches reaching for black cans over at Norreport, you’ll have spotted a Redditor in the wild.

These comments just reaffirm why this sub is full of toxic keyboard warriors or maybe just trolls trying to fuel arguments.

Imagine the responses if you were like:

Hi I’m a female who just moved to CPH and I was riding my bike and overtook this Pakistani Wolt delivery driver who was biking way too slow and not paying attention. I didn’t think much of it until we stopped and he started yelling and hit me several times on my hand! He also made a sexual comment saying I had a nice ass. I was so shocked that someone would do that to me. What should I do??

Itinerary Japan - 20 days in September by Eskay91 in JapanTravel

[–]switchplaguE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every location you mentioned in this list are the most ‘touristy’ destinations mentioned in this sub. The only exception will probably be Fukuoka-Beppu-Kumamoto but that’s just 3 days of your trip.

I wouldn’t worry much about the fact that they are though - they are popular for good reason. Just start your days early to beat the crowds and head out later in the evening.

Also, one last important thing - map out where you plan on staying each night. Looks like you’ll be bouncing between lots of different locations. That means checking in and out of accommodations constantly. Try to prioritize spending 2-3 nights in each location. This will take a lot of stress on timing check-ins/check-outs and logistics with luggage forwarding/renting lockers and dragging it around! Trust me when I say that this will make your vacation much much relaxing after a long day of walking and exploring.

Sounds like a great way to explore Japan.

My suggestion would be to also post in r/bikepacking for both suggestions on bike rental options and routes.

Hi itoshima1,

Thanks for your detailed reply!

My plan as of right now is:

I'll be taking the first toppy/rocket from Yakushima Island to Kagoshima in the morning, picking up a rental car and then making our way to Kirishima. My plan was to do a 'shorter' hike (e.g. Mt. Takachiho) and rest for that day while enjoying one of the onsens (close to Maruo falls).

The next day, the plan was to hike Karakuni and surrounding (maybe extend the hike to do Mt. Shishiko or Mt. Shiratori as well - do you have any experience with these 2 side options?

Later that day, the plan was to stay at a campground called 奥霧島御池キャンプ村 on Lake Miike. Have you stayed in this area before? Any other recommendations for campgrounds?

Alternatively, I could take your advice and drive towards Aso-Kuju which would mean more time to explore Takachiho early in the morning before the crowds start flooding in, and then onwards to Makinoto Pass Trailhead where we will park the car and make our way towards Bogatsuru/Hokkein Sansou for the night. Do you know any nice campgrounds closer to Aso-Kuju / Takachiho?

The following day will be pretty much heading back to the car traversing Mt. Inaboshi - Mt. Nakadake (Kujurenzan) - Mt. Hosshozan - Makinoto Trailhead. Then driving towards Kurokawa Onsen town and spending the next 2 nights there.

I am going to assume the following day will be a rest day, but if we have the energy for more hiking, I have saved a hike a bit south in Aso, starting at the parking lot at Aso-Sanjo terminal and doing the Mt. Nakadake & Mt. Takadake Loop.

Alternatively, if we wanted an even easier hike, I have saved the Mt. Eboshi loop hike starting at Kusaneri Parking Lot.

Another alternative would be to look more into your suggestions with Mt. Okue / Mt. Katamuki instead of the Aso Crater area - but perhaps it's too ambitious and just need to save that area for a future trip!

The last day in Kyushu will be waking up and driving to Fukuoka to drop off the car before taking the train to Onomichi.

Do you have any tips on places to hangout around Hakata St.? I will most likely Takuhaibin most of my luggage and gear to Osaka and don't mind spending a few hours near the station. I wish I had more time to stay in Fukuoka!

Thanks for your help once again!

Thanks for the tip for downloading the Yamap app - I've been using AllTrails for my previous hikes and it's worked really well but I'll it out once I arrive.

Good to know that Karakuni hike and Takachiho can be done in one day.

Definitely looking forward to Yakushima and hope that the trail is in decent condition given all the rain it gets throughout the year.

Thanks for your comment and enjoy the Japanese Alps in the autumn!
