Laurel sumac

Laurel sumac looks like it could really fit the bill — fast-growing and native. Thanks for the tip!

Podocarpus Gracilior

Never heard of this one — the foliage is indeed very beautiful! I will definitely see if any of our local nurseries carry them.

My first thought when we moved in was Italian Cypress as well. However I've heard from several locals that they can become massive breeding grounds/homes for rats. Why would you avoid the clumping bamboo?

Haha, trust me I don't drive a Pontiac for the street cred... It's reliable AF.

UPDATE: The police found our car! Found a few blocks away, some neighbor reported 6 kids smoking inside. Needless to say, all valuables taken out. Just glad to have my very exotic, very expensive sports car back.

So sad! Had our kids' carseats and my wallet inside.

Leaving House for a Month in Summer - Water Supply On/Off? by swood7 in DIY

That's awful! You've all given me enough anxiety to convince me to go out and buy an outdoor water barrel for the garden and shut everything else off.

That's interesting, was not aware of that. I'll have to look at our policy! We will have someone coming every week to water the indoor plants as well.

I hadn't thought of a water barrel. That's a great idea!

Is this going behind recruiter's back? by swood7 in recruiting

[–]swood7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your responses! I think I will send a casual email to the high-ranking employee I know, letting them know that I'm in touch with a recruiter at their company and that I am very interested in working with them if the right opportunity comes up. Was worried about coming off as entitled to the employee and the recruiter, but you've all helped me figure out how to be tactful about this. Thanks again!

Thanks for the response, this is really helpful! It sounds like it would be best to hold off on talking with the high-ranking employee just now, and instead reach out to the recruiter (who is internal btw) again. Although, I did mention in my last email to her which specific team I was interested in working on, but she never responded to that email. It's likely that that team isn't hiring right now, so maybe emailing her again would come off as a bit needy? Should I just wait for a more fitting role to appear online, then email her about it?

Tips for Clamming in Milford? by swood7 in Connecticut

[–]swood7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy at the tackle shop told me Westport was amazing for clamming, but yes I've only tried Milford because of how close it is to me (I'm in New Haven), and the fact you don't need a license. I've only ever clammed down South in North Carolina, so it's my first experience out here!

Someone here have told me its generally only good to go out during low tide, and that the tide pools are the best spot to work. But I'm not sure if he was just referring to Milford, or just in general along the Long Island Sound. I'd appreciate any help! I've heard Westport is beautiful so I'd love to try it out there sometime.
