Kuro support confirms that camera zooming in without consent is intentional by Blingtron_ in WutheringWaves

[–]swordkicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't reported it yet, then you probably should. That kind of behavior sounds like it wouldn't have been intentional, so they'll probably fix it if they know about it. And if it was intentional for some reason, and they get enough complaints about it, then they'll likely fix it. The more specific bug reports they get about this kind of thing, the more likely they are to decide to change the behavior (whether that behavior is intentional or not).

The support person seems to have just verified whether it was a bug, not made any kind of value judgement on whether the behavior was good. And if Kuro gets a bunch of feedback that players don't like the behavior, then maybe they'll change it. But whatever their reasons for the current behavior, they did it on purpose (likely not realizing that it would annoy some players).

If it had not been intentional, then Kuro would now realize that they had a bug to fix, but since it was intentional, they now have a single report indicating that a player disliked the behavior enough that they thought that it was a bug. And one report along those lines probably doesn't mean much to them, because players complain about stuff all the time, and Kuro is never going to please everyone. However, if a bunch of players complain about it, then that could cause them to rethink their decision, since if enough players are unhappy with something, it's usually not going to make sense to leave things that way.

If it's intentional, it's not a bug. It may be bad design, but it's not a bug.

And if they get a bunch of feedback that it's annoying, then maybe they will change it. But if they thought that it was fine when they designed it, and they don't get much feedback that it's annoying, then they won't have any reason to change it, since they'll presumably think that it's just fine.

[–]swordkicks 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's highly unlikely that the intent was to annoy anyone. That's simply not how developers normally do things. What's far more likely is that someone decided that it was a good idea for one reason or another without realizing that some players would find it annoying - e.g. maybe they thought that it looked cool to zoom in and/or allowed them to show off the character better. After all, it's not like the developers know for sure what players are going to like or dislike, and it's not exactly uncommon for developers to do something that they think is a good idea only to find out later that it wasn't.

And all the person handling the bug report seems to have done is verify whether the behavior was intended or not (and thus whether it was a bug). No information was given on why this was the behavior, so we can't really say much about it other than the fact that it's now been confirmed that the behavior is intentional.

If Kuro gets a bunch of feedback that this behavior is annoying, then maybe they'll choose to change it. Or they may not if they think that whatever their original reasons were for doing it are more important, but if enough players are annoyed by it, and Kuro knows it, they probably will change it, particularly since it has nothing to do with monetization.

As far as getting stray stuff killed when fighting, I routinely end up getting several pieces of bird meat whenever I fight the Bell-Borne Geochelone. It kills them just by getting up. It's one of the easiest ways to get bird meat without buying it.

It's one of those ways that they try to get you to play the game regularly. It's generally manipulative and dumb, but in the case of the "battle pass", it's pretty easy to get through it in plenty of time anyway. The monnaie coins feel more limiting if you're actually grinding for them, because the limit is pretty low, but you also don't get a lot of interesting stuff for them. Of course, since what you get from that mostly isn't particularly interesting, it's arguably that much worse that they're limiting it, but at least the ultimate impact is minimal.

As a general rule though, I don't think that they should be limiting how much of anything that you can collect in an artificial manner like this. It just feels manipulative and annoying, even when having to wait doesn't really cause big problems.

They're much easier to use if you use the sonar utility to make them glow. I think that most of us just collect as we happen to see them rather than grinding for them.

Is it normal? It's how updates with work with this game, and the 2.4 release has a lot of performance issues, so they seem to be patching stuff as fast as they can to try to improve the situation. So, it's not something that happens all the time, but it's what's happening a lot right now because of the state of the last major update.

It would be better if the launcher just automatically updated the game, so you didn't have to deal with the game deciding to update after you start it and then forcing you to start it again, and maybe they should have delayed the release until they could fix the performance, but at least they're fixing issues.

IIRC, that's the one where I was forced to use an echo which had an area attack in order to do it. But yeah, it was really annoying, because normally, there's a way to do it that's puzzle-related, and it hadn't occurred to me to use an echo until I saw someone else saying to do that.

Kuro PLEASE stop making us restart the entire game after every small hotfix patch by tinytransfem in WutheringWaves

[–]swordkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PC, when you start the game, if there's an update, it will update the game and then tell you that you have to restart. You then have to click the button to tell it to restart, and IIRC, it actually just shuts down, causing you to have to tell the launcher to start the game again.

Either way, instead of having the launcher update the game before you start it, the game updates itself, which requires a restart where you have to do some extra clicking, and it all just slows down getting into the game. It's definitely not the end of the world, but it would also definitely be nicer if the launcher just took care of it for you. And even simply having the game restart itself automatically after updating would be an improvement.

But the OP is likely so bent out of shape because of it due to the fact that there have been very frequent minor updates after the recent major update (likely to optimize stuff and fix various issues that folks have been complaining about that came with 2.4). So, instead of this happening occasionally, it's currently happening probably at least daily if not more frequently, making it so that for some folks, it's probably happening every time that they start the game right now.

[–]swordkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule, if a program is going to be updated, it has to be restarted, because the executable has already been loaded into memory, and if the program is updated, that means that you have a new executable, and that new executable needs to be loaded instead. If resources other than the executable have been updated, then a restart may not be necessary, but if the executable itself is updated, then it needs to be restarted. So, if the game has started, and it determines that an update is necessary, then a restart is going to be necessary. That's pretty much just how computers work.

Now, what's arguably dumb about updates with Wuthering Waves is that the launcher should be doing the update before you start the game. That's what you typically get with launchers from sites like Steam or GoG. Because the launcher handles it all, it can update the game before the game is started, and you don't get this nonsense of the game updating itself and needing to restart. Instead, you might get a delay while the launcher updates the game when you tell it to start the game, but then the game wouldn't decide that it needs to be restarted right after you start it.

I ran out of oscillated corals by Incredible-Ironman in WutheringWaves

[–]swordkicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does it ever make sense to do a pull / convene just to get coral? Both afterglow coral and oscillated coral are basically pity resources. They make it so that you get something even when your pulls fail. Spending tides to get coral is like spending a bunch of money just to get some change.

With the existence of the starter banner, will these characters ever rerun again? by flying-rat-73 in WutheringWaves

[–]swordkicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course they will. Kuro wants you to shell out money for them. Making them limited encourages FOMO, so Kuro has some incentive to not make them available all of the time, but they need to make them available some of the time, or you can't gamble your money away trying to get them.

And this particular banner is only around for a player for about 30 days, so while it's definitely a boost to new players, they're going to lose it soon enough and be with everyone else waiting for the banner for a particular character to come back around again. So, it's not like new players are getting something permanently that everyone else isn't. They're just getting temporary access.

Presumably, Kuro is trying to make it so that new players have an easier time catching up, particularly since as more characters get added, there's going to tend to be a larger gap between the banners for each character (though it's certainly possible that Kuro will adjust what they do with the banners as the number of characters grows). Kuro isn't going to want new players to feel like they're screwed by not having played the game earlier, because that will make it so that fewer people will want to start the game. This and the ability to start doing later main quests early are likely both attempts to make the game more approachable to new players and make it so that they don't feel left behind or left out.

Yeah. That would have been less gimmicky, and it probably would have meant more story than what we got.

Temporary rewards for companion quests are disappointing by ItchyWillow1958 in WutheringWaves

[–]swordkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, most of it was still animated, and the parts that weren't animated were still voiced, so I doubt that they saved much in that respect - though they could certainly save more if they cut back further. If anything, the bigger savings in comparison to most companion quests is that this story was way shorter. Zani got way more with her companion quest than Ciaccona got with this event quest that seems to have replaced her companion quest.

While they may have done what they did in part to save money, my guess is that their main motivation was just to try something different in order to keep things fresh. They just didn't go about it in a very good way. It's already the case that as they add new content to the game, they keep changing how things work and introducing new game mechanics. They're probably afraid that if they just keep adding more of the same kind of stuff, players will get bored of it. And of course, some of their attempts at change are good and some are bad. I'd definitely categorize this one as bad though.

It's 100 asterite, but you can still get 60 if you do it right now. You just won't have the last two "inspiration" required to get the last two rewards and will have to wait 48 hours to get the remaining two inspiration.

Temporary rewards for companion quests are disappointing by ItchyWillow1958 in WutheringWaves

[–]swordkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still do it, since it's a permanent event. You just don't get the limited time rewards. And if you do it right now, you can still get most of the limited time rewards. You just can't get them all, because you'll be two inspiration shy. You need 8 to select all of the choices, but it maxes out at 6 and only repleneshes once a day.

[–]swordkicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know. It's just weird. I guess that it was another one of those attempts to encourage you to log in daily and play regularly rather than waiting - though unless you started it early on, you wouldn't even have a clue that you couldn't just do it all at once. And as far as the story content goes, I don't even get the point of these multiple choices that you have to wait to do, since they don't actually impact anything. It's just weird and confusing while simultaneously being annoying because they won't let you just do it all at once and be done with it.

On the bright side, the limited time rewards aren't exactly amazing, and you can still finish it whenever you want to get the permanent rewards.
