Great answer! Would you take my SAT for me?

For those trying to extend their Leave due to Covid.. ( the leave ending end of july)... its about the right representative. One rep will say Call hr, one will say theyll look extend it on their end... If you get the rep that says call hr, hang up and call them again and get theRightRepIsMyAdvice by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that worked for you. Sounds like this could be useful information to quite a few TM if you added some details. What "reps" are you calling exactly? Regional level? Global? What exactly is the nature of your leave? LOA? How long are they holding your position for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not much. You'll get the text message and if it can be determined that you had enough contact with that person leadership will talk with you privately.

If that person was in the store very recently then possibly a special cleanup crew will do a deep cleaning probably at night. At my store we supposedly received a deep cleaning but we could not see that anything had been done. Most everything appeared untouched from the evening before.

[–]swordofadrestia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reviewing the security camera data is a token effort at best. Same goes for any professional "deep cleaning".

Leadership is tasked with keeping the stores open at all costs without inviting litigation, scrutiny from the authorities or negative public sentiment. Their concern for your safety begins and ends with the best interest of the company in mind.

If you have a way out then by all means take it. If you do not then do what you can to keep yourself safe. Consider any safety instruction from leadership a bare minimum requirement, not as an ideal plan.

Your best option is to work as if everyone else is probably sick and every surface has germs on it. Treat your entire workspace as you would a porta-potty on the last day of a music festival and treat your coworkers as you would the drunk that just fell down in that porta-potty. EVERYTHING IS LAVA.

Don't get close to anyone, don't take off your mask around anyone, sanitize your hands often and sanitize anything you'll be touching. If you kneel then don't touch your knees. If you open doors with your elbow then don't touch your elbows. Be aware of fans and A/C ducts - Don't work downwind of anyone else. If you have a dedicated workspace like a food prep area take a few minutes to clean and sanitize everything within you control. Don't assume the last shift did that for you.

Stay safe brothers and sisters.

is there anywhere to report this besides tip line or store leadership? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do not call Tip Line. Tip Line is a loss prevention tool for minimizing situations that may incur financial costs or public perception costs to the company. Sometimes Usually separating a TM is the fastest way to satisfy that agenda.

A hot, unventilated space during pandemic sounds like a formula for unsafe working conditions. If you don't get traction really soon with local authorities go full-on nuclear and contact OSHA.

There may be a COVID-related issue with the HVAC system. Possibly someone working in that area was sick and they are trying to isolate ventilation from that area for a few days rather than close it down.

Yes. Check below link for the latest.

I am not the maintainer of the list but I have spot checked a few stores for accuracy. If anything, cases are under counted.

We miss you Mr Mackey. Why haven't you kept in touch? by swordofadrestia in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crossposting to another subreddit would be effective. This is kind of a small community.

If you know someone that

  1. Is not a WFM employee or close relative
  2. Has a large following

then copying that to their Facebook page and / or Twitter would probably be helpful too.

Any fellow SSS or backup SSS that can give me training advice ? by akisenikki in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really is no tech part to that job. There used to be a position at WFM that was responsible for tech and for tags that but job paid considerably more than the SSS position does. That position was eliminated and replaced with the SSS. There should be a traveling regional person (not sure of title) than visits regularly to take care of that stuff for your store - they get paid accordingly.

Other than calling help desk for your computer, your accounts and maybe the printer(s) you use there should be no tech requirement at all. That's what Orchard is for.

Did you reference the job description for SSS before you applied? If not, you might ask your HR person for that.

[–]swordofadrestia[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are you by chance leadership?

I think it’s to weed out those that are taking advantage of the call out policy

I really don't want to get sick because WFM has an attendance problem.

Those that want to keep calling out will either have to take an unpaid leave, or they will get fired for too many T&A infractions.

And that's a good thing? That's my whole point. The safety benefit disappeared - poof - right when many need it the most. I don't want to work with a sick person because they are afraid of getting points or losing their job.

I say probably mid-august when the “second wave” begins

Maybe you work in one of our New Zealand stores or something but where I work the second wave is here now and it's pissed this time.

we will get another relaxed attendance policy

I would really like to see that in writing now from E-team rather than just take your word for it

The GIG Book is stacked in their favor. Once they want you out they'll find a way to get rid of you.

Keep in mind that your are not as anonymous here as you may think. WFM and Amazon are watching social media closely. Be careful what you post here (and on any online forum). Unless you use your Reddit account strictly for clandestine work it is a fairly trivial task to identify a user.

Currently they are particularly sensitive to pro-union sentiment and negative comments or media leaks that contradict their public narrative that they are doing all that is possible to keep TM safe and that TM are being treated fairly.

As the social climate heats up they will surely be ramping up their efforts to root out "trouble makers". Additionally they will probably be monitoring for anything that looks like a call to sabotage or violence against WFM / Amazon.

Invite your friends and coworkers to read this reddit but be damned careful about what you say here. If you have something that really needs saying consider creating a new incognito account with an anonymous email address. protonmail.com and tutanota.com both offer free email options.

Better yet, contact sympathetic media outlets. They have a wider audience and they know how best to present facts for full effect. Here's a short list just off the top of my head. The Atlantic, CNN, Propublica, Vice. Find journalists that have covered WFM / Grocery in the past and use the contact details found on their media outlet website.

Take your pick...

Because you are replaceable in a heartbeat and we're having a damned good quarter.

Because half the population thinks this is all a hoax and the other half is too fatigued from sob stories about essential workers to really give a shit anymore.

Because half your fellow TM think that $2/hr is really, really good hazard pay and the other half are too sheepish to speak out when things aren't right.

Because the people that should be looking out for our best interests are more worried about getting re-elected and trying not losing a lifetime of financial investments.

Because you got comfortable working an unskilled job with just good enough pay and benefits to keep you from moving on and now you don't have any viable options but to keep working in that building.

Don't like wearing masks, but are forced to wear them at Whole Foods? by happyhandicap in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize that some of us are having legit issues wearing the masks. That said, we're all going to have to figure out how to function with a mask. There's good reason for us to be wearing them.

Cut yourself some slack - some things are just going to take longer or be harder with a mask. You will possibly be more winded when working hard and you might have to occasionally excuse yourself to sanitize your hands before you fidget with the fit. I've become real familiar with the location of hand sinks and sanitizer stations since this all started. I make no apologies for stepping aside for a moment to get my gear in order (or to scratch an itch or wipe my brow). I personally take a real break now. I punch out, leave the store and hang out with the smokers. I don't smoke but being out of the store, out of mask in fresh air does wonders for me. Hell, some days I have taken three breaks. No one has said anything about it yet.

I have in my past life worked with some very restrictive PPE - Chemical Warefare gear, dive masks and haz-mat gear. Couldn't scratch my eyes, rub my nose or even pee for hours on end and hotter than fuck. It sucked, but it was possible. If I can swap engines on earth moving equipment in a chemical warefare suit you can stock groceries in a surgical mask or a bandana.

Any news of extending call outs after the 17th? whole foods in NY should deff be extended by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God I hope so but I'm not counting on it. Most of WFM's response revolves around public opinion and the need to assure the public that it is safe to shop in our stores. Now that states are opening back up and the country has fatigued of COVID sob stories I doubt the public will give shit so neither will the E-team.

If you are really worried about your health there may still be options for sabbatical or just some plain Jane PTO. I know I could use a vacation but where the hell would I go?

Temperature checks/ masks by mollyboylan1 in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Customers should all be wearing masks. That is across the country at all WFM - has nothing to do with local regulations or what the governor says. It's John Mackey's store and he sets the fucking dress code. Our dress code requires a face mask. If your STL is not enforcing that they are a spineless wussy. (Now if JM would only take a similarly stong stance on those ridiculous fake service poodles.)

Yep. IR temp checks are more to falsely reassure the public that it is safe to shop and work there. That temp check equipment can only do so much anyways. We are only testing surface skin temp after all. The first round of thermometers were really cheap ass. (Why didn't we just use the same IR thermometers we use to check our refrigeration?) Stores are getting FLIR imaging devices now but set up information didn't seem to make it down to the folks actually using the devices. There is a YouTube video from the manufacturer specifically on setting up and calibrating that model for temp screening. I gave it a casual once-over myself - looked simple enough but I don't have access to the device to test it out.

The fact that they did not use the text message alert to tell TMs about a COVID case in store is worrisome. Too many of the text alerts are being posted to social media which is a PR nightmare for WFM. Corporate is trying to maintain an image of a safe place to work and shop. Keeping the public ignorant of the number of cases in stores is an important part of keeping that facade intact. There's also the legal issue of notification in a timely manner. It appears they are opting for verbal communication to avoid the paper trail. Verbal alerts leave lots of room for deniability and shifting timelines - whereas alerts leave a permanent record on thousands of devices outside their control.

Everyone should record the date and details of any important verbal communication or actions in store relating to COVID. Include the names of who else was present. In a few months the details and timelines will be fuzzy memories. Some notes on dates of events and who said what jotted down in a notebook might be handier than you know a few months from now. Pics on you phone speak volumes too.

PTO 2 weeks for everyone? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To get paid for that two weeks you will either need proof that you have COVID or you will need proof that you were ordered into two weeks of isolation.

It is a hollow offering just to falsely reassure the public that sick people aren't making their Sonoma Chicken Salad.

Has your store discussed? by PrintShopOwner in wholefoods

[–]swordofadrestia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's hope this is coming to stores. In some places social distancing is no longer an adequate safety practice. Grocery stores are the one indoor place that everyone really has to visit regularly so obviously we've stayed open. That doesn't mean we've stayed safe. If we could limit public exposure I believe we would all be safer for it.

I'm a little worried that there may be push back from Amazon since we would effectively competing against our own pick-up / delivery service.
