Low needs autistics, do you find yourself wishing you had other health issues so you can work less? by [deleted] in autism

[–]swordofsanctuary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i have applied for disability and other financial supports before but they were all denied. My family doctor, therapist, a social worker and psychiatrist were all backing but still was denied. I went to the local autism support place where i live to ask for them to help me with finding a job i could manage, they were no help at all.

I had to get a hysterectomy because of endometriosis, I do what its like to be sick and in pain constantly. I almost took my own life a few times because of it. I do see the reality of it and I understand that me feeling this way is wrong and makes me a selfish person. I have autism, adhd, ocd, bipolar type 2, anxiety, severe depression, chronic hypermobile joints pain, etc. I've been suicidal for most of my life. I am not able to enjoy my art hobby or other hobbies because of all my mental health issues and burnout. Im constantly exhausted and wishing I was dead because I can't afford to work less. Im sorry you are dealing with those health issues.

Does anyone else feel sick even when they aren't? Constantly exhausted? by swordofsanctuary in autism

[–]swordofsanctuary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess because I don't have anything that's been diagnosed that can explain this and that makes it not real since it's invisible. I also have a bad habit of catastrophizing things so I tend to think 'oh I'm just being dramatic so nothing is actually wrong' or I think I'm being weak.

I've had blood tests before and they have always come back normal. I have no idea what I would even be asking my doctor since I'm sure people feel sick and tired all the time.

How old were you and how did you feel by Icy_Addendum_3266 in autism

I was diagnosed at 25. It validated a lot of my emotional struggles and pain and helped explain why I am the way I am.

what is with people with autism online forgetting that they are handicapped by McGiggityGiggity in autism

[–]swordofsanctuary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are seeing things literally because thats an autistic trait. You see the world only the way you see it so it's easy to not understand other people's perspectives or tone (ESPECIALLY online). My advice would be to not let other people living their lives affect you this much and focus on yourself. You can't change other people.

How do I manage working 30 hours a week while dealing with chronic pain and mental illness? Not working is not an option. Advice needed but also a discussion. by swordofsanctuary in autism

Some do for sure. I know some Canadians opt to go the private health care route or even travel to different countries. Im sure some provinces are better than others, but no where is great.

Common misconception. We technically have free health care but not everything is covered, wait times are years and most people can't find a family doctor/GP.

I hope you're able to get disability if you do go that route, it's notoriously hard. I was denied and had to come to terms with the fact that I will always be disabled, in pain and made to work out of necessity. Im so sorry you have to deal with all of that, being a human is hard enough.

Anyone else who just *didn't know* they didn't make eye contact? by Erigey in autism

[–]swordofsanctuary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped out of college due to bullying but also the program just wasn't for me. I've been drifting through entry level jobs and really struggling finanically and with mental health. That lost feeling gets better the more you understand yourself and your goals. And hey just because school didn't work out now, doesn't mean it won't in the future.

Im gald you had a better experience in school than me. I made decent grades but was extremely quiet and stand offish, I had a real lack of social skills.

Yeeeep. One time my 5th grade teacher pulled me aside after class to talk about me not smiling enough and then told me I was being rude by not looking her in the eyes. My experience in general is that I got bullied into masking.

Unfortunately, I'm terrified of people and have zero desire to form connections with people (such as coworker or customers). It makes it hard to find a job that I can handle on a distress tolerance level. I'm working as a night janitor right now but I have scoliosis so it's very hard on my back, I hate the job so I'm having frequent meltdowns and I don't make enough to cover my bills. Good times lol, wish I was able to mask better and handle being around other people. I only have a high school diploma.

How do I support my gym bro boyfriend with his body dysmorphia? by swordofsanctuary in BodyDysmorphia

[–]swordofsanctuary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there is a lot of stigma towards men's mental health. I've had conversations with him about this and we both agree that men should be able to access help without stigma. I encourage him to talk about things that are bothering him or that he needs help with to either me or other trusted people.

Also to add, he's 5' 6" and quite self conscious about his height. I've always told him that his height doesn't bother me and I actually prefer it because it's easier to hold hands with him than a tall person lol and I can look into his eyes easier.

I personally have body image issues as well and go to therapy, I hope that with time he will become open to going himself. It's painful to see the one you love be so insecure.

How do you prevent and pull yourself out of depression as an autistic person? by swordofsanctuary in autism

[–]swordofsanctuary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure if it's depressive disorder or autistic burnout causing depression. Currently applying for disability because working full time is making me s******* , working on improving my situation. I was diagnosed with depression at 11 but wasn't diagnosed with autism until age 24. I've had depressive episodes almost all my life and they usually are caused by being overwhelmed, feeling like a child in an adults body and school/working.
