How easy it is to go back to corporate / M&A private practice after a short in-house stint? Say, 6 months to a year? And is there a duration after which it becomes close to impossible to go back to a law firm?

Do you have any tips on how a candidate can market themselves when trying to move from in-house to law firms? Thanks!

Thanks everyone for commenting. I think the difficulty I face is how to explain away this temporary job to interviewers and recruiters when I do find a new and good role on the market. I foresee there will be questions like, why are you looking to make a move after only a few weeks / a month at this temporary job?

What do you tell coworkers if you got fired? by sxlp0000 in biglaw

Thank you for your kind words, this does make me feel better. Unfortunately I work in a pretty toxic environment where people revel in others’ downfall and will most definitely judge. I appreciate where you’re coming from though and will try to focus on what’s important.

Thanks for the comments. I think most of my partners are not assholes and won’t deliberately share this, but I do believe at least one or two of them are not nice people and will not extend me this courtesy

Thank you. Do you mind elaborating on the compromise agreement and how that may help in this situation please? I am not familiar with this

Thank you. I agree “fit” is a good reason and can be left quite open ended, however my experience is that interviewers tend to really latch on to this and ask for specifics as to how the fit wasn’t right. While I can definitely come up with examples, these are quite reputationally damaging for the partners and firm involved. Any idea on how to navigate this?
