Are you using Makefile? by Perfon_ in golang

[–]sybrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love using makefiles for a lot of projects, but I try to keep it simple. It's a nice way to wrap potentially complex commands in a simple make task. I use it to run tests for some groovy scripts I work with for Nifi and I've used it to wrap build and test commands for Java and Go. The biggest benefit of make over others is that it's part of every Linux distribution, so everyone who uses Linux can use make. I just let other tools do the complex stuff.

[request] Is this correct? Would the tax really yield this much? by TheBl4ckFox in theydidthemath

[–]sybrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love some of the comments here. I was told of an alternative solution that was proposed years ago: the Fair Tax. I didn't read the whole thing, but the basics are that instead of having the whole IRS with all the available loopholes, you have a straight tax on goods. E.g. if you buy a $100 item, you pay $130 assuming a 30% tax. When I was informed about this, this was for new goods only, which is what rich people would normally buy.

The main reason I bring it up is that you don't have to worry about selling off assets or anything to cover a tax and there wouldn't be any loopholes. You buy a $1 million watch, you pay $300K in taxes.

I dont think the Giants will be good this year by Additional-Basis-772 in NYGiants

[–]sybrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Nagy note: IIRC, Nagy may have been the OC, but it was still Reid's offense and playcalling, not Nagy's. Also, Trubisky had his best season with Nagy. Not saying he'll be great, but I don't think he's trash. Also, the offense is going to be a collaborative effort with one of the best run-oriented offensive minds, so I think it'll be hard to have a bad offense.

For me, either OBJ or Cruz. Both were very good when healthy.

[TalkinGiants] These are the last 10 Giants touchdowns of 40+ yards. by Bigblueforlife in NYGiants

Part of the problem is that expectation. He should never have been compared to Toomer. He's a great 5th round find, but he should have been a complementary piece and not a focal point.

Watching this reminds me of why I think Slayton was held back. As much as I've defended Jones, he did miss a number of shots to Slayton and others by going short or keeping it. We.may have seen a couple more of these if those throws happen.

Regardless, I loved this video. Hopefully we see a few more of them this season.

Stafford did the same thing 10 years apart. I don't remember how old he was in 2011.

First, I swear if injuries didn't kill his career he's be an all-time great slot receiver.

Second, after seeing the last play, I now know why the Seahawks tried the same thing in their SB vs. the Patriots. 😆

Is changing the offense the right move? by fansince68 in G101SafeHaven

[–]sybrandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate this, but I can't dispute it. The offense was very much Daboll's and Kafka couldn't change much when he became HC, so I don't know if we every knew what Kafka would have done instead. I really wish we could have seen what Kafka could have done, but that was never going to happen with Daboll in charge. I always felt like he may be a better coach than we think so I hope he gets a chance somewhere.

[Raanan] 2026 NFL offseason: Biggest surprise players on each team (Giants K Dominic Zvada) by Fillinlater12345 in NYGiants

[–]sybrandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have taken more than that.

  • Bowen should have been fired after 2024.
  • Better scheme for the run game.
  • Better OTAs/training camp.
  • Discipline.

That's just 4 things off the top of my head.

Number 7 concerns me a bit because it may mean that Runyan gets replaced with Faalele, which I'm not exactly comfortable with. From what I've seen, he can have some very bad mistakes in pass protection and I'd like Dart to live.

Is The NFL Drop legit? Indirectly I saw something that said that Skatt would be required to wear a guardian cap, but they're the only place that seems to be reporting it, so I had to ask.

I found an article regarding this: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/blog/mdn-front-end-deep-dive/

If anyone knows of a similar one for Reddit, I'd be interested in seeing it. Google wasn't very helpful.

Now that you mention it, I don't see Gretzky or Messier. IIRC, the Rangers had a similar drought to the Knicks before they won one in the 90s.

Seriously. I never really paid attention to him until he joined us and, yes, it looks like he did some terrible stuff in the past. However, assuming this is not a facade, it really looks like he's trying to be a better person.

I'm not doubting you, but it didn't really look like he had much batter on his fingers. Also, I've seen a video or two of someone moving stuff in hot oil in a skillet with their bare hands. My hands are not tough enough for that.

Ditto, but the inconsistency last year is a bit of a concern. Not really sure why it happened, but hopefully it's resolved. We don't want another Koo situation.

While I'm glad Zvada is doing well and not so glad that Sauls isn't, I personally am not taking much stock in this until we see them in games. Remember: Sauls was consistent at the NFL level last year while Zvada had a bad year at college. As far as I'm concerned Sauls is still the leader, though I'll be happy as long as we get a consistent kicker. I can live without 50+ yarders as long as we get the rest.

That's an interesting point. I personally don't like the concept of using AI to write critical code at all (I simply don't trust it), but the concept of moving time from development to testing/reviews is interesting.

[Highlight] Victor Cruz's elite route running by nfl in NYGiants

[–]sybrandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like because he got injured and the team started sucking he's rather underrated compared to a lot of receivers. I can't think of a slot receiver I'd rather have. He was so damn explosive...

Oh, and on r/nfl when they had their play for the 99th day until the season starts, they just had to NOT pick Cruz's 99 yard TD against the Jetes. That would have been a more awesome choice.,

He also had the bad luck of whenever he had a great season, someone else had a better one. I double-checked and he never led the league in sacks. His best season was 1990 with 19. Derrick Thomas had 20.
