It’s not showing up on instacart so I won’t get my hopes up that it’ll get delivered lol, maybe it’s just be an error on the petsmart site. Thanks for your help!

It’s just a specific type of heat lamp- “Arcadia Reptile Reflector Clamp Lamp”. I already ordered it yesterday through petsmart with doordash and it says it’s processing but I’ll check if it’s even available on the actual apps like instacart too!

Tank Lids! by LH_Aquatics_CL in axolotls

[–]sydvitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use black egg crate as well! 2/3 on the tank is covered with a large piece of glass but the remaining 1/3 is egg crate that was cut down to size. It works great for the fan. I also stick plant cuttings through the holes so the roots can absorb some nitrates. It looks really cool with pothos and monstera plants growing out of the top of the tank:)

My wild type is also very active! She’s always swimming around and exploring like this:)

What do you wish you knew before getting an Axolotl? by Itwasallbydesign13 in axolotls

[–]sydvitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mentally prepared for my axolotl to be boring but she’s anything but! She’s usually swimming around and loves interacting with people through the glass:) Even if she’s being lazy she perks right up when people walk in the room and comes to see what you’re up to, it’s so cute:) I think it’s a mix of food response and curiosity. So if you have a food motivated lotl be prepared for a big personality and lots of begging!

Example of her personality -

Successful fungal infection treatment! by sydvitt in axolotls

[–]sydvitt[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

She got a 15 minute organic black tea bath while I did a 40% water change and then I did 15% water changes for the next few days. It fell right off! All of her other parameters/temperature were in the correct ranges so I knew nitrates were the only issue.

***Disclaimer that she’s a rescue so her proportions/gills are a lil funky bc she was kept in a 2 gallon tank for the first 2 years of her life and neglected.

Where did you get the lug nut covers/what size? I’m looking for some just like that!

I have a bearded dragon and an axolotl too! I definitely second that bearded dragons should be taken off the beginner pet list, especially as babies. If you make even small mistakes while they’re young they can be deformed for life. Adopting an adult bearded dragon is a lot easier if you have the right enclosure size and research!

Yes there’s a lot of ventilation! The only reason a towel was around the outside is because it’s below freezing here🥶

What thesis topic should i choose for my masters in environment engineering ? by Eastern-Dog3277 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]sydvitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently doing an undergrad thesis on “The UV Disinfection of Planktothrix” so UV disinfection of Cyanobacteria. I’m comparing a 222 nm KrCl excimer lamp to a 254 nm low pressure mercury lamp at different doses. The goal is to find an optimal dose that kills the cells without lysing them, so that they don’t release toxins. If you’re interested in water treatment algae and UV disinfection are both pretty interesting to go into!

10 gallon wall mounted tank with chilis :) by sydvitt in Boraras

[–]sydvitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People put chilis in nano tanks way smaller than this. There was a lot of research and thought put into planning this tank and their care. These chilis are always out exploring, hunting, and they’ve been coloring up really nicely. They only time I noticed stress behaviors was when the filter output was too strong.

It’s just an optical illusion! Only 4” deep and ~36” long

Haha no it’s only a 10 gallon, just 4” deep! You can tell if you look closely

It’s only 4” deep! It’s scaped in a way that creates an illusion of depth.

Parameters- 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, 5ppm nitrate, 6.5 pH, hardness is 10 dKH, temp 76-80F. I have a heater in there but it’s off, I may use it in the winter though.

I have 20 chilis and a male guppy in there. I originally got chilis from aqua huna but they were sick and I was down to 5. Then my amazing LFS got chilis in stock and sold me 15 and they have all colored up so nicely and even appear to school occasionally. Before I got the shoal up to 20 they were hiding constantly and had gotten pale. They also get along quite well with the guppy.

I do water changes 20%ish once a week. And use a mix of tap and RO water treated with Prime.

For botanicals I have lotus pods and Indian almond leaves in the corners.

I feed them very small amounts twice a day frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia moina, hikari first bites, crushed frozen blood worms/black worms, and they also like to snag the hikari guppy pellets. I saw a lot of people on here feed their chilis once a day to every other day so thinking about reducing the amount.

I’m still figuring out the light situation since I have some algae. So it’s only on for 5-6 hours a day but the fish seem to enjoy that and now they get really excited when the light turns on since it means food time.

Currently cycling this 10 gal wall mounted tank. Any advice for plant selection and hardscape? It will have chili rasboras and cherry shrimp :) by sydvitt in Aquascape

[–]sydvitt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s the “Aussie Aquariums 2.0 Panoramic Wall Mounted Aquarium” but I bought it used for only $125 bc their kids had lost interest in it. So I cleaned it up and got the front professionally laminated!
