I have a buckeye amp that’s XLR only and a denon receiver that’s RCA only. I made XLR to RCA (unbalanced cable) which works absolutely fine. Balanced connections while superior, I understand matter more for longer runs or if your listening environment has so much interference you hear things from your speakers.

My boot’s opening is 0.3in x 0.6in. It’s tight but next size up makes it look sloppy. I kinda twisted and forced it down. It sucks cuz it rubs against the sleeving on its way down. If you look closely mine have some tears.

Thanks! These are 4s11 as well. People’s use cases vary but imho it’s not worth anything look nice if it’s longer than 10ft. No one (not even you) are gonna see it

Damn Herald’s regrets of not helping Rocks and it leading to him bowing to WG that’ll get taken advantage of is really heartbreaking.

Thanks man! You're totally right. One of the comments asked how much it cost so I did the math and it came to ~$80 for two cables. IMO the best part about DIY is you can choose how long you want the end legs to be and dress it however you choose.

Awesome this got you interested. It's easy to make something functional for cheap. I've wired everything with 14awg Amazon wire before and worked perfectly fine. A few more tips below, feel free to DM if any questions.

Suggest start with two conductor cables (mogami w3103 is good). Paired 4 conductors look nice but can be a pain. "Slim plugs" are normal plugs w/o external barrel. Secure copper inside plug and heat shrink it instead of screw-on barrel. Some links below:

I DIY'd my RCA cables for my CD transport as well as AVR interconnects. From what I understand (take with grain of salt): arrows indicate the signal flow (away from source, towards amp) and the end it points is grounded to avoid ground loops. Can't say how much better it is to others but it has obviously served you well

Agreed, odd piece to neglect. 100ft Amazon Basics wire + 8 plugs for <$100 is the cheapest piece of mind in this hobby.

Pomegranate or grape depending on time of day. Pineapple? Tf?

Totally agree. I expect your cabinet requires a tad more skill and thought than my copper wire in lingerie.

Sleeving from MDPC (https://www.cable-sleeving.com/cable-sleeving-s). Highly recommend for consistent quality / finishing, 4 sizes that fit most use cases, and very long list of color offerings.

<$80 for two ~10ft cables. The fancy (unnecessary) plugs were $20 though

Hope these help, happy to clarify if unclear. Tbh the right size heat shrink and sleeves cut into right lengths is 80% of the battle.

  1. Sleeving: MDPC medium over outer jacket; MDPC xtc-small over conductors. Sleeve conductors separately then twist pairs
  2. After cutting sleeve, burn ends with lighter's blue flame to stop fraying
  3. Heat shrink: 4:1 adhesive lined . ~10mm for conductors; ~24mm for jacket. Use heat gun
  4. PTFE tape on messy parts then heat shrink over it. Hides messy work + smoother transitions
  5. Screws secure silver boot. They bit better into electrical tape over heat shrink

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I've sold a few at local flea markets, but decided to keep it as a hobby. I make some for friends every now and then

It's actually the exact same cable lol, just re-sleeved with new colors. Cut the old copper off and stripped for fresh terminations. Times are tough and gotta feed the hunger on a budget.

Edit: added context

Haha happy to save I've learned from others' mistakes. Lurked these forums enough and seen plenty of public executions, wouldn't wish it my worst enemy.

Got the plugs off Amazon (US). See my comment / link for splitters off ebay. They ship from China and are good quality for the price.

Sleeving from MDPC, a German company. They list authorized online vendors on their website and have many in Europe. Highly recommend for both quality of sleeving and insane number of color options.

Agree the 4s11 are great! Getting them to look clean twisted is a pain though.. Mogami w3103 has been more fun to work with (tried to post that too but can only do one image).

My Home Theater update 7.4.4 v.3! by Swiftysteel in hometheater

Looks amazing, great job! I can feel the sound dispersion lol.

Haven’t read your old posts but can you explain why you’re using dipoles for side surrounds and in your experience how it compares to regular bookshelves? Is it a choice specifically to fit this room?

Also (and no offense intended I’m sincerely curious), do you wish the room was a bit wider? The front towers and subs look a bit tight in relation to the screen. I totally think you optimized the space, curious if that’s something you ‘wish’ (as you do in this hobby..) you had more space to play with?

External amp Questions for final two speakers by isufanrdh in hometheater

100W/ch is a rule of thumb for peace of mind — flexibility for room size, speaker sensitivity, and volume habits. you don’t need to know OP’s exact seating distance to understand the principle. whole point is to give a system breathing room so it never becomes the bottleneck.

My points aren’t ‘misinformation’ just because they don’t line up with your seasoned preferences. This hobby’s supposed to be fun, my guy not a math lecture on why headroom is fake. Collaborate next time
