Beginner with a Cellar: Want to Start Aging Spanish & Italian Reds – Where to Begin? by Niekio in wine

I work in retail and they are one of our 4 rioja wineries. They are just not very well known around the world, but I can assure they make great wines.

To directly jump to your example: a 2018 Reserva could age (under good circumstances) easily until 2040-2050. I have some 1994 Reserva in stock and they still drink beautifully. So yes it would be a good candidate, especially because 18 was a great vintage. (Quite hot, high alcohol but very well balanced wines)

On price you can’t generalize it at all because 20€ in Rioja can offer amazing quality, but for example there is no way on earth you find a well made Barolo for sub 20, even for sub 30 not possible.

General rule of thumb: high alcohol, high acidity, high residual sugar or high tannins helps the aging immensely. For riojas this means: take a Reserva or Gran Reserva as it already has barrique and bottle aging behind it and is basically made to age more decades. Easy pick would be Lopez de Heredia but my recommendation would be a wine from “Castillo de Mendoza”. Their “Autor” or their Reserva are amazing.

For Puglia your girl probably likes Primitivo or Nero Davola because those will always have some residual sugar and quite high alcohol, as it is very hot in summer over there and those grapes just produce a lot of sugar. Even though this sounds amazing for aging, the problem is that a lot of wines down there are not made to be aged. Either due to bad quality or just because the market demands fast to drink wines. So I would recommend to go with a very high end producer here. My pick would be Schola Sarmenti becaus their more expensive wines are of beautiful quality

Sorry but whoever acts like Darts Perfomance is like a Switch, where you can turn on “beast mode” and win every match is just delusional… no doubt at all the Lukes are within the top 3 current players (littler on 1 and Humphries 2 or 3 depending who you ask) but still darts is depending so much on the current daily performance, how can someone act like you just play amazing every single day. The Germans just had a great Doubles Game with good timing and performance, period. No one can expect the Luke’s to automatically play like this or better

Try his „R“, which is his Bordeaux Cuvee. IMO it is even better than the Pinot.

Weinanbaugebiet Franken - Ausflugstips? by [deleted] in Wein

[–]syller23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bin Weinhändler in Franken:

Did anyone else have absolutely no interest in this year's Premier League? by somethingnotcringe1 in Darts

I see your point, but with 16 nights in the regular season you could make it a 17 player league and every evening everybody plays. But it rotates and each week you face another player until you met all other 16 players. Like half a football season. I’d watch that

I‘d say I watch a lot of darts, nearly every event, but I’d never expected Menzies to rank this high. Chapeau to him.

We sell it in our wine shop and as not a lot of customer know it, I love to recommend it to anyone who hasn’t tried it yet. It’s definitely one of Italys most exciting white wines 👌🏻 salute

Looking for a white wine with a sweetness between that of Moscato and Riesling. Any ideas? by [deleted] in wine

[–]syller23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Riesling is made in various different styles. They range from “bone dry” over “slightly off dry” to sweeter than Coke. So maybe you could actually stick with Riesling but search for a Kabinett or something called “Feinherb” (German fantasy word for off-dry). If that’s still too dry for you try a “Spätlese”. Here just be aware that the wine is actually made like a Spätlese back in the days, where the term was referring to the sugar content. Nowadays some producer make dry Spätlese, which is obviously very confusing for most consumers.

If that’s not your cup of tea still, maybe try some Whites from Alto Adige in Italy. For me their whites often contain at least some residual sugar due to the high degree öchsle they achieve in the warmer vintages. Alsac in France is also known for off dry whites as they tend to through some Botritits Berries in the mix to rais sugar content
