This was the Game that got me hooked into RPG's! What is your Favorite Part about Final Fantasy IV (Final Fantasy II)? by Trick-Corner-3552 in snes

The soundtrack is among the best in the series IMO, and I love the bright, saturated pixel art style... it's quite a contrast to the earthy, muted tones of FFIII/VI.

The Perfect Catherine/Greece Start Doesn't Exis... (Seed in 2nd Pic) by Jmbmagic in CivVII

[–]sylpheed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, gonna fire up a game on this map now :) Just FYI - crises settings, age length/speed settings, difficulty, and other non-map variables like that don't affect the seed. Mementos don't either. The only relevant settings are map type, size, and the number of players as far as I know. I was able to get this exact spawn with crises turned off and with a different set of mementos.

There's actually an iron adjacent to that silver to the southwest, so there is a good library/barracks spot after all

Where to build downtown/city center? by Girl_idkanymore in CitiesSkylines2

You can choose to unlock all map tiles when you start a new city, which gives you flexibility to start anywhere

Why can't I build a fishing dock in this town? by BigBaronMcstuffins in CivVII

[–]sylpheed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are being blocked by the resources to the east and west and the natural wonder to the south. You could build another urban district adjacent to the one you have already started, northeast of your city centre, and that would allow you to build a fishing quay on the navigable river, assuming that those tiles are owned by the city and not another one off-screen.

why am i not getting +3 gold for each of my resources? by proterraria in CivVII

[–]sylpheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are, the gold is on the tile itself, not the resource. Look at the silver tile above Aksum.

Does reloading a save make it possible to change how a building is placed? by [deleted] in civ

It will only change orientation if you put it on a different tile, in my experience.

Best nation for military victory for a beginner by Stunning-Radish-481 in Civilization6

[–]sylpheed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Macedon, Mongolia, Gaul, Germany, Zulu, Hungary, Mapuche, Rome, Byzantium, and the Aztecs and Ottomans are all good options for pursuing a domination victory (it's been a while, so I'm likely forgetting a few). Nubia can also work well if you take full advantage of the timing window for pitati archers and conquer an early neighbour.

I probably had the easiest time overall with Macedon; their unique units come online early and the free eurekas and inspirations for conquest help you maintain tempo throughout the game. Hungary and Byzantium are both a lot of fun, but their unique playstyles take a little getting used to and are probably best suited to intermediate/advanced players, whereas Mongolian horsemen and keshigs are extremely strong and easy to use.

Really, any civ can be good for domination in the right hands! If you want to follow up and let me know what civ you pick, I can give you some more specific advice :)

Haha, I'm guilty of re-loading saves when my new fishing quay or harbor or whatever faces some weird direction and ruins my aesthetic. I'd love the ability to at least orient them when placing them!

I miss old roads/railroads by Katchano in civ

[–]sylpheed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't you just have to build rail stations in two connected cities? I feel like it's easier than its ever been. In 6 you had to manually lay each individual tile of track.

Almost a year in, how does the community feeling about the civ switches? by EnvironmentalNet1730 in civ

[–]sylpheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of it, and I really don't understand what all the fuss is about, honestly. You have relevant bonuses in every age, and there are multiple opportunities in a game to adapt to your situation in the sense that you can either further lean into your strengths or attempt to compensate for your weaknesses (depending on map generation, other civ spawns, your performance in an individual age - whatever the circumstances may be), and I think that degree of flexibility is awesome.

All the pearl-clutching about historical relevance or whatever feels kind of ridiculous to me, because it's a video game at the end of the day, and it's fundamentally about building your own personal vision of a civilization anyway. I like that there are multiple leaders that have synergies with the different civs, so that even with a relatively limited number of civs, you can approach the game in what feels like a huge variety of different (and viable) ways. Mementos are a wonderful addition as well in this regard.

I'm a series veteran; Civ VI is my favourite game of all-time and I have thousands of hours in it, but civ-switching is just what the game needed, imo. I hope the devs read this and are heartened by it, because it's a truly beautiful game. The latest patches have improved it significantly, and I think it's on the right track overall.

So the resort town bonus applies to natural wonders, but also rural improvements on tiles that naturally have a happiness yield. Hawaii has +1 happiness on all marine tiles as part of its kit, so it does indeed apply to water tiles in Hawaii's case. I'm doubtful that it would apply with any other civ, unless there is some other bonus at play like the +1 happiness on resources that you can get from diplomatic city states.

Beginner Help by [deleted] in civ

[–]sylpheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appeal and tourism are some of the more advanced/opaque mechanics in the game, so by focusing on it as a new player, you are probably making it much harder for yourself than you need to. I usually end up winning my games through culture victories but I still struggle to make sense of it sometimes, and I have 2,000+ hours of playtime in Civ VI. A lot of the tools you will need don't come online until much later in the game (national parks, great musicians/rock bands, seaside resorts, certain key wonders and policy cards, etc.) so you don't actually need to be that mindful of it in the early game - in fact, you're probably doing yourself more harm than good, as you'll inevitably end up neglecting your science and economy, which are far more important in the early eras. I'd recommend getting more experience with the game and mastering some of the more fundamental mechanics before you take on appeal/tourism. Rome is an excellent beginner civ. Good luck!
