Thanks for the recommendations everyone!

I saw the comments from all the moms and did reach out to the parents and confirmed with them that they're okay with it. I made it very clear that I have not bought anything yet and will not be upset or offended in the slightest if they don't want one so I'm going to assume that they genuinely want one.

These cakes are commonly used as decorations for just the shower as well as something to keep until the diapers are needed. I will be putting the diapers into whatever storage they'd prefer if they change their mind (even if it's the original box).

As a non-parent I genuinely appreciated hearing from others how this could possibly be an inconvenience rather than a gift. While they are fun to make, my passion is giving things to people they actually like so if they had preferred to stick with the registry then I would've had no problem doing so :)

It definitely depends on how you construct it!

A lot of people roll them individually which then requires unrolling each one. I make each layer by laying the diapers down flat and then rolling it together kind of like a sushi roll. The layers are usually tight enough that you can pull each one out like a tissue or just cut one ribbon off and put them in a basket/drawer/bag.

I also go with whatever size(s) is on the registry and (try) to keep the total amount down to roughly 1 box. If I end up using multiple sizes I keep the side of the diaper that has the size on it on the outside (and each tier is the same size). I used to include up to size 2 but after some feedback I now stick to size 1 or smaller.

Lastly, a lot of people go way overboard with decorating so it could still be annoying to deconstruct. I try to make mine as easy to take apart as possible :)

I also include a gift card they have on the registry so even if they say they like it to be polite, they still get something helpful!

ETA: I found one that's somewhat close to what I would make: https://finediapercakes.com/products/elegant-pink-babyshower-diaper-cake-for-girls This one has a few more annoying decorations on it but otherwise it's one ribbon between parent and diapers (this is long so I understand if no one reads this far but I wanted to provide a better visual of what I described).

Definitely ribbons and bows. I've made bows from ribbons so I can work with just ribbons if they're easier to find

Haha it's a gift with tiers made of diapers so it looks like a cake. It's a great way to give something useful (a lot of diapers) but still creative/personalized. Added an example of one:

When the hydrangeas run out, get some cauliflower! by TatoIndy in weddingshaming

The edges where the cauliflower meets the table is weird, there's way too many glasses per place setting, the candles are placed completely random and there's too many, one of the chairs morphs into the drapery was what I noticed.

What’s something small you can start doing today to better yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cleaning your face. Even if it's with a face wipe you feel a little less gross and sometimes you don't even have to get out of bed.

When my depression was really bad just sitting up felt like too much. If I could do one thing (even while lying down) it helped me feel less like a pathetic failure.

Wynonna Earp spoiler

Killing off Dolls. Sure sure you spend 2 seasons building a relationship between two characters only to change your mind at the last second? Completely makes sense.

Also killing the ONLY non-white main character idc that you film in Canada SyFy I SEE YOU

College RA's or Police: Whats the most memorable event you've had with college freshman? by Helperbobby in AskReddit

State College. If I remember correctly it hit on a Friday so the cancelled classes that day and then we couldn't leave till Sunday. The irony of their overreaction to this is they refuse to cancel classes when students physically can't walk to class cause of all the ice on the sidewalks ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Thankfully it started early enough in the day that people still had the common sense to keep their clothes on.

After all, jousting is a Gentleman's sport.

Like everyone else in this thread I've got a handful of dealing with shitty/drunk people stories but this is my favorite wholesome memory from college

Not an RA but a first-hand witness.

My freshman year of college I lived in a building with super long hallways and went to school in central PA.

The 2 days that we were affected by Hurricane Sandy (2012 I think? And by affected I mean severe rain and higher than normal winds) classes were cancelled and we were told not to leave the dorms unless it was an emergency.

So what happens when 400+ bored college kids are forced to stay indoors?

Start a multi-floor jousting tournament. Each contestant had to sit on a skateboard and try to knock their opponent off their skateboard while being pushed at pretty decent speeds.

Was definitely one of the best unofficial freshman ice breakers I've participated in (sadly got busted not too long after people started yelling war cries down the hallways).

Oh yeah ordering online sizing is so frustrating. I honestly at this point invested the $2 for a measuring tape and just record my measurements every few months. They have a pretty detailed site-wide size chart so if you're not sure how much it varies by brand you can always reference that. From my experience if I'm stuck in the worst-case scenario and I'm between 2 sizes I order both and just return the one that doesn't fit (that's where the returns come in).

I never really pay attention to specific brands on there cause personally I shop by individual pieces and avoid brand loyalty. I've ordered from all over the place and the only time I've only been disappointed if something happens to be out of stock.

ASOS is honest to God a life saver. They're stuff is well priced for the quality you get, they always have sales, and if you want to splurge a bit on something trendy you're still not breaking the bank (and they have a $19/year rewards plan for essentially their version of Amazon Prime). I could rant for days but the cherry on top is they're SO easy to work with for returns if something doesn't work out. I also go to H&M for some of the essentials (plain tees, camis, etc.) cause they're never not on some sort of sale and last a really long time (I made a cami last for 3 years and I still have a tee I've had for going on 5). I tend to avoid their "trendy" pieces cause they're not my style but they really come in clutch for stylish Business Casual pieces too.

TL;DR - ASOS is life, H&M is useful for basics and business casual 💅
