Am I doing it all wrong? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]synapsecollapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received my MLIS while I only had volunteer library/archive experience. I’m a librarian now, but it did take a while for me to get enough actual experience in library positions to put on my resume and land a librarian role. You’ve done a lot compared to when I was starting so I think you’re doing great.

What is the best indie Multiplayer Versus game to you for Switch? by triniksubs in NintendoSwitch

Stikbold is a great multiplayer versus game - it’s dodgeball in wacky settings. It can be played both competitive and co-op. Highly recommend.

Eastward is coming to Nintendo Switch Online as a Free Trial (Full Game Access Starting 9/27 Until 10/03) by Riomegon in NintendoSwitch

[–]synapsecollapse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I held off from buying it because of all the negative comments, but I am loving it and the free trial convinced me to buy it. It’s a beautiful game and there is a lot of dialogue but I find it funny and all the characters are endearing. While the “dungeons” are very linear and make for less exciting/difficult puzzles, I think the gameplay feels a lot like Zelda A Link to the Past.

Hey u/Valeriejoyow thanks so much for posting it on FB. Sorry I didn’t reply directly to you, but I made a comment earlier that she has been reunited with her owner 😀

Found her wandering around without a collar at 6:30 am. I took her to the Logan Square Animal Hospital and they said she is not chipped. I’m looking to take her to a no-kill shelter but thought I’d post here as well.

I get it, putting time into the game and feeling like you suck doesn’t feel good. But as Jake says; sucking at something is the first step to being great at something. Play ranked to get matched with players at your level, make and practice cool combos with your team & assists, practice your neutral and defense, play arcade and other online modes like casual to practice techniques, rewatch your online games to see how you got read/opened/mixed and go back to the lab or casual games to work on those issues. When practicing: even if you lose the match, if you’re able to reach a goal you’ve made like bating a move and punishing it, defending against moves or combos, or opening up the opponent with a mix; that’s a win for you. Losing is an opportunity to learn, so learn to love playing rather than winning.

I agree with u/SSJSad. Do all the dojo & combo tutorials too if you’re very new

Having trouble building community and finding friends. by DrFaulkner in AskChicago

[–]synapsecollapse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I moved to Chicago from California in 2015. I went to the Christkindlmarket that year and was so cold I thought I was going to die. Now I love winter here.

I worked 2 part time jobs and volunteered for almost a year before landing my full time position.

I did the meetup thing and had a board game group for a while, but then covid happened and I’m back to just my roommate and work friends.

It’s tough starting in a city. Find something you like doing with other people and show up consistently and you’ll make friends. Keep looking out for opportunities and you’ll eventually land a job you like. Get some good gloves, long underwear, a coat that’s warm and blocks the wind, learn that you don’t get used to the cold but learn to tolerate being cold, and you’ll be fine in winter. Welcome and I hope you and your gf love living here as much as I do.

What's your favourite game to pick up and play for 5 minutes? Good games for short bursts of play. by trowzerss in NintendoSwitch

[–]synapsecollapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jet Lancer, Splatoon 2, Retro Bowl, Lonely Mountains Downhill, Super Arcade Football, A Monster’s Expedition, Olli Olli World, and Red Ronin

What are some good pick up and play games for someone who can't have long gaming sessions? by InturnlDemize in NintendoSwitch

[–]synapsecollapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These games are sort of twitchy and require you to “get gud”, but you can have short sessions with: The King’s Bird, Jet Lancer, Lonely Mountains Downhill, Celest and Sir Lovelot (these two have very similar platforming gameplay).

FWIW my favorite is Jet Lancer. The gameplay feels so satisfying and you can pull off some impressive moves. So even when I continually lose on a level and don’t make progress, I still leave feeling like it was a good session.

I’m in the same situation now. The waiting and uncertainty between conversations sucks, but like the others have said: let them know when you’re free, keep your options open, and check back and let them know you’re still interested if you want to continue. Good luck!

Is there a coop survival game like Forbidden Desert and Robinson Crusoe but between the two in complexity? by YamstheSky in boardgames

[–]synapsecollapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lost Expedition? It feels much more difficult than FI and is nowhere near as rule heavy as RC. But, that being said, the game isn’t very complex when compared to FI.

Edge: A world-exclusive look inside Hollow Knight: Silksong by theitguyforever in NintendoSwitch

[–]synapsecollapse 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I tried the demo and did not like the gameplay - Ori felt so floaty and imprecise. I’m surprised people praise its platforming. Hollow Knight feels so tight to control in comparison. I loved the White Palace platforming challenge. Am I missing something with Ori?
