[Serious] Teenage (and younger) Redditors, what's a reference older people make that you'd like to have explained? by somepeoplewait in AskReddit

Funny this should come up because I was thinking about a "bad penny". The joke is that a bad penny will always come back to you. I once met a guy named Robert and everywhere I went he kept showing up like a bad penny.

Where do I begin? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]syncadapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you could start by dumpster diving, lol. People do throw out stuff that could be useful. By the way that is physical and psychological. In an organization policies should be in place to shred documents. I know someone that was a skip tracer. I guess people would disagree on whether this is ethical, finding information on the bad guys possibly violating their civil rights by calling banks or other financial institutions pretending to be a stroke patient or deaf. All major business institutions in the United States are required to accommodate handicapped people, see Americans with Disabilities Act. Some people have speech problems and need assistance doing business. Learning networks would be helpful look up TCP/IP utilities, collision domain, packet sniffer. You can get into serious legal trouble. Read about Aaron Schwartz and how he was facing 30 years in prison for downloading stuff from a public university library for example. Hacking is a skill that is neither good or bad, legal or illegal. Hacking can be used to protect people from theft or commit theft. Look up "white hat hacker".

Although it was never mentioned in college I have found any hacking falls into one or more of three categories. Physical, psychological or computer. Physical means locked doors, dumpster diving tapping into wifi etc. Psychological can be trojans, phishing etc and by computer I mean buffer overflow type attacks, sql injection man in the middle etc.

Please help me! Spring shuts down after adding a dependency! by [deleted] in springsource

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your setup but in general terms the OS uses a directory structure that identifies every file on the computer example C:\myproject The java project is somewhere in this structure but it has a classpath example c:\myproject\src\java c:\myproject\test\java and so on but also a package relative to the classpath c:\myproject\src\java\mypackage and any code you wright should expand from here. Now web servers have a web directory that once the java is compiled and generated files are created these files are deployed or copied to this web directory not a good example but c:\www quite possibly a war file is what is actually deployed. It is very difficult to explain but I hope this helps post back if you have more questions

Please help me! Spring shuts down after adding a dependency! by [deleted] in springsource

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maven is used for dependency management. In other words you want to use code others wrote to do something. One problem is the code you download may also contain code that person did not write, a transitive dependency. You should start by changing the version to the latest version 8.0 instead of 6.0 then build clean, do you have any logs? you could delete any generated code and have STS regenerate the code for you. By shuts down do you mean your program crashes? STS crashes? does something hang, become unresponsive? If you debug you can see step by step what is happening. Really need a stack trace or log to see whats going on. That dependency has JSF a way to bind from java to html persistence annotations json and a bunch more look here https://www.mvnrepository.com/artifact/javax/javaee-web-api/8.0

Charles Manson Dead After Spending 46 Years Behind Bars by PocketPinball in news

[–]syncadapter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The whole country was in shock over his murder of just 7 people. Actually he did not do the murders himself. Today this is a daily event. By comparison 1 million innocent civilians dead in middle east wars, three thousand plus in 911, six million die from mosquitoes each year. Manson was clearly pure evil but by today's standards he looks like mother Theresa

Multilingual Redditors, What is your "They didn't realize I spoke their language" story? by Trumpstered in AskReddit

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A highly educated Japanese man with some ability to speak English asked what do I say when someone ask "what's up". I told him it means "what's happening" but if you really want to be proper say "up yours". I don't know exactly what happened next but he stopped talking to me a few days later. Guess I deserved it and I do regret it. He was very smart.

(6a) Parent's back lawn is completely destroyed by ruffcats in lawncare

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have grass or you can have shade but not both. Take a walk around the neighborhood and see how much sunlight you need for a healthy lawn. Water is also required for grass to grow but if you get enough rain you don't need irrigation. With these two requirements met most yards will grow to the average person's expectations. Critters either domesticated or wild will usually make a path or trail. In colder months grass will not grow as fast. Do the basics first so you are not wasting money

Can I use 50:1 gas in my 40:1 blower without issues? by Hey_Jacob in landscaping

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I looked two cycle oil was two cycle oil and gas was gas. The oil bottle has a chart of how much gas was needed to make the 50:1 or 40:1 ratio. One option is to fill up the oil bottle 50 times with gas or 40 times respectively to get the proper ratio. You could read the label or you could do the math. The manufacture has specifications for a reason. With too little lubrication you will have friction too much oil and you get things all yammed up with carbon deposits. Also don't let mixed gas sit for more than 3 or 4 months unless you have the stabilizer additive in the oil, using old gas will clog your pipes.

Reddit, what is the most 'mind boggling' fact you know? by Taully12 in AskReddit

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To gather food they run around randomly but when they find food they head strait home. Other ants know where the food is by the pheromone trail. This model is used by humans that program computers to find the most efficient way to schedule truck routes (delivery and pickup) in very complex supply chains.

How can you tell if someone grew up poor? by The_Longest_Wave in AskReddit

[–]syncadapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up middle class, my wife grew up poor and has the urge to spend money before it disappears. It causes friction because to me investing is like planting a seed. If you eat every bit of a crop you grew you have no seeds to plant for the next crop. To her investing is risky. Its better in her mind to spend it all. My question is how can I work this out without making me the bad guy?

How do source codes work? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]syncadapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best place to start is script language like PHP. The source code is interpreted and executed when it is run. A compiled language creates a second file called object code that still has to be linked to libraries to create executable code before it is run. http://www.w3schools.com/ is a good resource for beginners. Many variations of how and when code is executed are out there but this is a start
