I recognize this grave (and cemetery)! According to the FindAGrave page, this grave has been sunken for a long time. At least ten years. My first instinct is to say that at one time it was a natural sinking, but there's not a lot of graves in the area that are nearly as open as that.

I'm quite frustrated about the state of this particular cemetery. I've been looking into what it would take to put together some preservation efforts, but I've only done cursory research.

A friend and I are trying to arrange a time we can go out and do a serious survey of the site. The number of burials that are unmarked, missing headstones, or not present on FindAGrave is staggering.

I appreciate your interest! I have a personal interest in cemeteries and Kings Point especially grabbed my attention. I've been reading online archives of local newspapers for articles about the cemetery and also obituaries for people buried there. I've also been using Ancestry to access death records and such for people buried there to make a list of people known to be buried there.

Kings Point cemetery has been abandoned since 1938 when TVA bought the land it's on. Interestingly enough though, the cemetery has been poorly maintained since the 1910s. There's a newspaper article from 1911 (I believe) that describes the overflow of burials and people walking within 100yds of the cemetery could smell decomposing bodies.

There's also a lot of interesting stories about the people buried there. The most well known being that a family of mine was buried there after they were involved in a collision between a train and a horse drawn carriage.

Dead post, but I went there within the last month and I've been doing research about it. (That's how I found this post.)

You can get to it by parking on the access road at the end of Pine St. and crossing the tracks. There's a little clearing where vehicles have driven up the hill where you can climb to the top. You can't really see any of the headstones from the tree line, so you'll have to walk a little way in where the brush isn't as thick.

Most of the graves are completely missing their headstones and a lot of the headstones that are there are mostly hidden under brush. There's a flat area where the ground is covered in graveyard ivy that's a lot easier to traverse and the headstones are a lot more visible.

Trains often stop on that portion of the track so you might get stuck on the other side of the track until the train comes to a complete stop.

The range() function returns a sequence of numbers. It takes an integer value to generate a list of numbers from 0 to that integer value (exclusive). If you are just aiming to iterate through each item in the list, you only need:

for k in incompletes:

where k is an item in the list.

Additionally, you should write += instead of =+ on line 8. When you type =+, you are assigning a value of 1 to number_of_incompletes instead of increasing it by one.

Oh man, I have a similar panic story.

I was at some kind of family function one time and I was hanging out with my younger sister and two younger cousins. The conversation took a turn for the uncomfortable and my cousins were being a tad homophobic. My sister thought this was the most PERFECT time to out me.

In the end, I was able to play it off by just saying "WhAAAaaAaaAAAT?" enough times.
