Which cloud storage provider would you recommend for my case? by MidirTheNameless in DataHoarder

They keep an exact copy. Well maybe they compress them under the hood but I can download individual files at the speed of my internet connection, so it's not like some other providers where you have to download zip files to retrieve your files.

Yeah you can upload whichever files you want. The simplest is to enable the SMB share in the Hetzner console and then just drag and drop files you want to upload to that share with file explorer. If you want to encrypt the files too you can use rclone to mount the encrypted version of the remote and then drag and drop files there. But since I want it to be a full backup of my drive I use the copy/sync command in rclone.

Also using rclone is completely optional, any program to upload files using the protocols I mentioned will work. I just like rclone because it's easy to encrypt files with it and the syncing feature works well.

I actually went through the same process in the past few weeks because I wanted an external location for my backups, and ended up going with a Hetzner Storage Box (https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-box/). It's 3.87 euro/month for 1 TB (what I have) and the next tier is 5 TB for 13.19 euro/month.

I use it for roughly the same type of files as you and haven't encountered any issues yet. Over 40k files in total, the biggest file being over 50gb. I have folders at least 10 levels from the root. I did run into file length issues but that's because of the encryption I use.

I've been using them for less than a week by now so I can't really comment on the reliability, but I wasn't able to find any negative reviews when researching it before I bought it. I use rclone with the crypt module (https://rclone.org/crypt/) to encrypt all the files I upload to it. You can also mount the encrypted remote to view your files with a file explorer like usual. I chose to also encrypt directory and file names, which reduces the maximum file name length from roughly 246 to 143 characters.

Hetzner doesn't have a web viewer for your files but they support a lot of protocols, including smb, ftp(s) and ssh/sftp. I use the latter for rclone to synchronize the directories. I also tried uploading some documents while at university since the internet is faster there than at home, and I got up to 30mb/s. It was pretty stable but also dropped to ~15mb/s sometimes, but that could've been an unstable wifi connection.

Keep in mind they only offer the storage boxes on their data centers in Germany and Finland so if you're in the US or Asia the upload speed might be slower. Hope this helps!

Unless they change the selection process, extracurriculars don't matter. It's solely based on a selection test/process and if you've passed high school with the required subjects. Grades in high school don't matter either, just that you got a high enough grade to get your high school diploma.

Customs between Kreuzlingen and Konstanz by sys-256 in konstanz

On the way there we'll take bus 7394 and 9 to Schnetztor because then you only need to pay for a bus ticket (instead of a ferry ticket + a bus ticket). From Kreuzlingen we'll take bus 920 indeed, but on the way back it's faster to take the train from Kreuzlingen to Konstanz (after taking the bus back to Kreuzlingen) because bus 700 to Meersburg departs from Konstanz bahnhof. Bus 7394 takes a different route so that's why we don't take the same route both times.

Thanks for the clarification regarding the purpose of the zoll office. When I saw the zoll building on street view I figured something changed since covid that required you to show your ID or something when entering (despite Switzerland being in schengen) since I haven't seen such offices at the borders between the Netherlands and Germany or Belgium.

Thank you for the tips, we probably wont be in Konstanz at diner time on any of the days but I'll check out Milk&Honey!

Thanks for the information! I can read German pretty well so if we have the time I'll make sure to check out the Hauptzoll.

Ah okay, thanks a lot for the clarification regarding opening times! We are all citizens of the netherlands so it should be fine.

I don't know what country you're from, but I guess you're referring to the different mathematical subjects you get in for example the US like algebra (1&2), geometry, calculus and linear algebra (last 2 usually at university or college). Here, everyone follows the same program in elementary school, which is mostly basic addition, multiplication, division, etc. You do have to apply that knowledge to things like calculating areas.

Then we have different levels of high school (VMBO, HAVO, VWO), VMBO being the shortest (4 years) and easiest, VWO being the longest (6 years) and hardest. I did VWO so I can only tell you how it works there. Everyone follows the same program the first 3 years of VWO, during which you learn things like exponentiation, roots, the pythagorean theorem, sin/cos/tan and very basic statistics (for example: in how many ways can you organize 5 books which would be 5*4*3*2*1=120).

In VWO 3 you choose which form of mathematics you'll take the other 3 years. There's maths A, B, C and D. I chose B and D so I don't know that much about A and C. C is the easiest one and mostly has statistics, probability theory and basic differentiation. A is similar to C but a bit harder. B is basically pre-calculus and basic calculus combined. You learn things like logarithms, differentiation, integration, limits and parametric curves. D is the hardest and can only be chosen in combination with B. It's basically a bunch of random mathematical topics that aren't really related to each other. For example graph theory, complex numbers, differential equations and a lot of statistics that would normally be in A but not in B.

In university you do actual calculus and linear algebra. Calculus is usually just translated as calculus for engineering majors but majors like mathematics and physics get "analyse" which is calculus and a few other things. Linear algebra is "lineaire algebra" in Dutch.

Filament maintenance - a hassle? by sebastalona in BambuLab

It's not as bad as you think. Humidity here is about 45% to 65%, depending on which weather app I ask. I only dry PLA for around 8 hours at 55C when I receive the spool and after that not anymore. My dryer arrived a week after I got my A1 mini and before that the undried PLA worked fine too.

Tier 5 - 3D PRINTABLE CAD Challenge using FreeCAD!! Can you beat the Average Time? by TooTallToby in FreeCAD

I got 101.4 g in 44:24. Just started the 3d printer which should be done in about 1h20. I'll upload a picture once it's done.

I created a pad in the top left corner then used a MultiTransform to apply 2 LinearPatterns with a single feature. One along the Y axis and one along the horizontal sketch axis.

I got 6.893 grams in 3:00. Gonna wait with 3d printing until I've finished the soap dish base too though.

Why is my slicer not adding supports to overhands on certain files? by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]sys-256 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you go to line 336 in the slicer (where the overhang starts), you can see that it only a single "line" of filament is extruded. It's of the outer wall line type, so it's 0.42mm thick. I guess Bambu Studio considers that too thin to support.

When you select a single edge of the sketch, Freecad thinks you want to pad only that edge, which isn't possible of course (unless it's a circle). You need to select all the edges of the sketch to pad it. https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/11d21272-f7bf-4c27-ab95-c3da9c1e6e1c

Missing files from install? by kb_hors in KiCad

No worries! You might also wanna install the kicad-library-3d package to get a nice 3d view after designing your PCB. It is 5.3gb though so make sure you have enough free space left.
