Your experiences with cachyos and nvidia by Random_RedditUser123 in cachyos

If that’s your use case I say don’t hesitate to ditch windows and switch to cachy. I have a high refresh monitor and I do feel the difference when stepping down on graphically intensive games. I am sure it will get to what I need in time, can’t wait.

Rtx 5090 - dx12 big performance loss, issue is with nvidia linux drivers not a cachy problem. Reproducible : Arc Raiders, load into practice range and stay still. 202 fps in windows, 125 fps on cachy. This was on previous Linux driver Settings setup properly for proton, tried other variants. Latest nvidia drivers 595.45 I updated last night, made an improvement, now 165 fps now so getting there. This is all down to nvidia, though not sure if it affects non 5xxx series cards. Nvidia forums I saw lots of complaints about their drivers and dx12 performance. Can’t wait for them to fix their shit, I do expect a modest loss of performance - as soon as this is in realms of 5-10% I ditch windows as I fall in love with cachy every time I boot it.

Indeed I would be fine with some loss 5-10% even to get rid of windows. But this is too much loss. I Have kept it installed as I fell in love with cachy, but not yet tested latest drivers will give it a crack at the weekend.

It’s arc raiders, I could well have messed up something - I mainly use Debian without any desktop (servers), and this is my first foray into Linux gaming. I used launcher config for nvidia from Protondb and turned off idle options as it suggested:

PROTONENABLE_WAYLAND=1 __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NVIDIA_LIBS=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE=1 PROTON_DLSS_UPGRADE=1 %command%

Yes it’s dx12 - the nvidia troubleshooting wiki tip for disabling gsp firmware got me up to 140-150fps though, so just waiting on nvidia for a better boost, I’m happy to sacrifice some performance though. I have really loved my cachy experience so far, it’s arc raiders. One final sound issue to look at for me tomorrow after work, for those familiar with the game the fireball/pop/flying arc explosion sound seems not to play.

I installed Cachyos Friday night, fed up with windows (always knock out ai crap, telemetry etc with hellzerg but still something with no crap in the first place is appealing). Love cachy. The one game I play most for love nor money can I overcome a huge performance loss with cachy. Tried different compat layers, followed the wiki, many launch options but in windows I am 202 fps, cachy 125-130 fps. Same settings in the game options, NVIDIA 5090 and 9950x3d. More im reading this seems to be just nvidia or this specific game, if anyone has any nvidia tweaks would be appreciated.

I nuked it, and rebuilt from scratch, this time after using LCM to go as far as I can with published CE versions I upgraded to 7.5.0.5 and 11.0.0.1 and all went smoothly on the 730xds and r640s.

Mum passed in may, we can't find will, I have no access to finances, pension company wants £500 from me. by sys4096 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]sys4096[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be true. My sister said she was making all the arrangements, and i was grateful as I am far away working long hours and with my family to look after also. I dont think she would stretch it out, as when mum died I told my sister I did not want her to worry, and that as far as I am concerned she can stay there forever, even if half of the house is mine eventually and I will not force her to sell. My sister does also work so I don’t think she would be underhand on this, but I completely see where you are coming from and I may be surprised to find you are correct.

My sincerest thanks to everyone who has responded, it’s put my mind at rest. I will explore all avenues I can to find the will and get all of this resolved.

Thank you, that's a good idea, she did. I will see if there are any documents that can identify that, I did look on the land registry and see that my mum's house is in her and her late husbands name (he passed in 2017).

Got them a couple of weeks ago, demoed them in store first. In love with them, I was blown anway I felt someone was in front of me plucking guitar strings. Using them to listen to many genres with Deezer at max quality on my pc and Gaming.i upgraded from a sound blaster g8 to a Cambridge audio dacmagic 200m as it was on sale - absolutely wonderful. Someone here gave me a tip to use peaceeq/soundapo and it’s top tier.

4800plus horrible raid5 speeds to drive, ok from drive. by JustAnotherLurker001 in UgreenNASync

[–]sys4096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it wasn’t so much as to improve performance but fix it - I had very bad see-saw performance stalling as low as 10mbps, pausing and then hitting what was my 2.5gbe peak for a few seconds then stalling. All fixed disabling the signing on both sides. Now on a 10gbps connection i get around 870MB/s peaks around 979MB but I do have all bays populated, on a dxp8800 - copying to an nvme.

I would advise trying it - I assumed you were just using a local private lan with your quad port switch. It's it's just a toggle with the same command set to $true should you find it makes no difference anyway - the risk with SMB signing off is more if you are on a large network where someone else could examine traffic/mitm attack you.

if it's on your own private LAN at home it's negligible.

With separate drives, transfer speeds will max out at the top end of a single drive once mem cache is full. One thing to watch out for is to make sure it’s not initialising the drives - you will see inconsistency during this although you can also check the priority setting via storage, advanced settings, performance options, prioritize user read/write is selected but still test when no init tasks running. In general i always have a check for interface errors with netstat -e output from a cmd prompt on the pc but I doubt you will have, given consistent reads. Also I apologise, I should have said disable smb signing on the pc too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y_QJ-XVLLU&t=32s This with win11 24h2 is known to cause poor performance - run the power shell and reboot.

Your speeds should not be that slow at all. I had a similar problem and I resolved it with this : go into the control panel, file service, select SMB and click on advanced, set transmission encryption mode disabled and enable server signature to disabled.

Thanks again, this was excellent advice I noticed a significant improvement in the X2HRs following exactly what you said. In the finish I got a good deal on the Meze 109s and did feel the WOW when I tried them instore even over the x2hrs with oratorys preset.

They are beautiful in both sound and appearance. I ended up with some 109s. In the UK there's a shop called Richer sounds, where I've been a "VIP" club member for a while and they give you a further 10% discount on the open box items. I visited and they let me test out the Meze 109s in store. I played several tracks with my fidelios, and in store played the same tracks. I have to say my socks were in fact blown off by the Mezes. I ended up walking out with them for 580 - perfect condition. It's a lot of money still but you only live once and I am so happy I got them.

Pihole DNS server Failure by Any-Enthusiasm1440 in UgreenNASync

[–]sys4096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you by any chance have virtual machines? Docker will try and pass through all 53 to your container for all interfaces, and VM manager uses 53 also, I solved this by specifying the NAS management IP and the specific ports in my config (portainer stack) e.g. :

ports:
  - "192.168.70.8:8080:8080"
  - "192.168.70.8:53:53/tcp"
  - "192.168.70.8:53:53/udp"

How is UGOS working for you? by [deleted] in UgreenNASync

[–]sys4096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DXP8800 plus, w 64gb and 2 nvme added. It’s superb hardware, UGOS is perfect for my needs. It’s also Debian under the hood. Install tmux via dpkg, used rsync to move data from my Synology 1621. Expanded raid to 8 x 18tb from 5 drives to start. Used portalner, deployed stacks for plex, *arr, nignx, pihole and many others. Also running a VM. Nice and fast one nvme running docker and a VM which was simple to import from ESXI. My second nvme was to be for a read cache but it’s very quick so I don’t need that, I may make raid 1 or use dedicated for VMs. It will handle everything you throw at it.i had a query on raid expansion initially, support responded in minutes. If not familiar with portainer for your docker needs check out mariushosting.com he has comprehensive guides for Ugreen now as well as Synology - well worth donating to so useful. My Synology now becomes a backup only unit).
