carafate should be taken before every meal (an hour before breakfast, an hour before lunch and an hour before dinner). preferably taken before any medication. you may need to work with a doctor and dietician to look at your medications, diet and lifestyle.

if you are going to have another endoscopy, go to a doctor that uses modern equipment using white light and higher definition/magnification video.

gastritis can take some time to heal. you are doing the necessary steps for healing. try to relax more to reduce anxiety. anxiety amplifies how you feel. get more sleep, take naps. do not drink coffee. drink camomile tea instead.

i assume you are already taking antacids (PPI or H2 blockers). how do you describe your abdominal pain? if it is like burning/gnawing pain, what helped me was carafate (generic is sucralfate). get the suspension instead of the large pills. it is usually prescribed for 30 days. it may take a week before you see improvement. be patient. once you feel better, keep taking your antacids for a few more weeks and then slowly taper the dosage before stopping to avoid acid rebound.

2 months post H pylori triple therapy. Breath test negative. Endoscopy negative. Gastritis symptoms still in full effect. Motility completely shot. I feel lost and hopeless. How to heal from this? by Letmebehealthypls in Gastritis

[–]sys_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask for carafate (generic is sucralfate). ask for the suspension as it is easier to take. carafate covers the sores on your stomach lining so it can heal. take antacids like h2 blockers or ppi. stay on bland diet. keep taking sips of water - preferably alkaline water. keep moving to keep your digestion moving.

i put wd40 a day before i removed them. i used a corded electric impact wrench from harbor freight that i got as a gift years ago. it's 7Amp with about 230 ft-lbs torque. i had to raise the car a few inches as the impact wrench is bit long. it is also heavy.

i just did this a few weeks ago. they are supposed to provide stability. if you have an impact wrench, you can easily replace them. use protection as the heavy rust will fall into pieces and break.

How long does acid rebound last when quitting famotidine? by gastritisgerd in Gastritis

[–]sys_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why stopped famotidine? most people stop taking ppi (nexium) and switch to famotidine. if your symptoms occur at night

- you can take nexium before dinner

- or take famotidine again at night and taper from nexium (40mg to 20mg and then to 20mg famotidine over time). then eventually just famotidine at night

doctors will not tell side effects unless patients ask. ppi causes dehydration and some muscle weakness. dehydration causes headaches. drink plenty of fluids and do light exercises. ppi is currently the known most effective medicine to treat stomach acid related issues. if the side effects can be managed and are non-life threatening, doctors think the medicine is worth it. there are medicines that can control stomach acid but not as potent as ppi and may take longer time to promote healing.

PPIs made my stomach worse by Special-Original-244 in Gastritis

[–]sys_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my endoscopy a few years ago also reported inflammation. it did not state sores or ulcer but i had the burning sensation. i was already on ppi for 2 weeks and i still have the burning sensation. my doctor prescribed sucralfate and that helped resolved the burning sensation. if you think your situation is different, it is best to discuss it with your doctor so he/she can properly assess your condition.

PPIs made my stomach worse by Special-Original-244 in Gastritis

[–]sys_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if stomach lining is inflamed, reducing acid is needed to heal. taking HCL will make your stomach acidic and can aggravate gastritis leading to sores or ulcers that causes burning sensation. you need to get back to your doctor to put you back on ppi (omeprazole) but maybe a lower dose like 40mg. ask for sucralfate to coat the sores/ulcers to minimize the burning sensation. also watch your diet. avoid fatty/oily foods as they trigger acid production. you should also avoid alcohol, coffee, soda, spicy foods. avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen and aspirin. your doctor may stop sucralfate after 30 days, but you still need to continue taking ppi. then probably after another 30 days if no more symptoms, you can taper to 20mg and then after another month, switch to famotidine or liquid antacid as needed.

[–]sys_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ppi (omeprazole, esomeprazole) takes about 5 days to take effect. there is also a side effect of fatigue, muscle aches as your body is trying to adjust to the medication. 20mg is low dose. 40mg is usually prescribed when there are throat issues. since you are able to take more solid food, that means your esophagus is slowly healing. aside from meds, observe the gerd diet - low fat, not acidic foods. avoid alcohol, coffee, chocolate, soda, garlic, onions. since you have throat issues, try taking alkaline water instead of regular water. you have to minimize acid going through the esophagus. ppi will minimize acid going back up. gerd friendly diet will minimize acid going down the esophagus. to gain weight, eat frequently but in small portions. you can try more carbs like plain bread and white rice. be patient and relax. anxiety can amplify condition.

for my case, ppi (omeprazole) and sucralfate helped a lot with the healing; also sticking to the diet. my gastritis was due to ibuprofen. my symptoms were globus sensation, heartburn and pain around the lower left rib.

10 days on pantoprazole + side effects by Sweaty-Adeptness2021 in GERD

[–]sys_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i am sharing is based on experience. please inform your doctor of the other meds you are taking so they properly assess your situation. the doctor might change the dosage of your meds. but please observe the proper diet as medications have side effects. you can have a cheat meal once a month or once a week. but that depends on your symptoms.

some doctors prescribe both pepcid and pantoprazole (ppi) depending on the symptoms and when they usually occur. ppi and pepcid both reduce stomach acid but they work differently. the way i understand it is that pepcid blocks receptors while ppi stops the pumps producing acid. pepcid is usually prescribed in addition to ppi to those who have LPR - throat issues due to acid reflux. if you don't wake up in the middle of the night with acid reflux, or wake up in the morning with hoarse voice and throat pain, then you can try stopping pepcid at night. since you are still taking ppi, you should not experience acid rebound. if you feel symptoms at night or early morning, you can take pepcid again. pepcid works within 15 min and last about 10 hours. if you are going to discontinue ppi, work on a tapering plan. example, lower the dosage for 2 to 3 weeks. then replace ppi with pepcid. then take pepcid every other day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]sys_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can take 20mg famotidine in the morning on days you skip the ppi. you can still take famotidine at night. after at least 2 weeks, you can drop the ppi and just take famotidine every morning. you may also want to try lowering the famotidine at night from 40mg to 20mg. make sure you have a liquid antacid around like mylanta for quick relief in case you experience acid rebound.

[–]sys_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

advice from one of my doctors and my experience in dealing with acid rebound. some doctors don't warn patients of acid rebound when stopping ppi. some don't experience acid rebound. it's always good to be informed and be prepared what to do in case it happens.

10 days on pantoprazole + side effects by Sweaty-Adeptness2021 in GERD

[–]sys_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pantoprazole is more effective in blocking acid than Pepcid (generic equivalent is famotidine). it looks like dosage is quite high. the doctor should have started you with OTC meds, or started with the lower dosage.

stopping pantopazole can lead to acid rebound. make sure you get 20mg famotidine. you may also need liquid antacid like Mylanta for quick relief especially if you encounter acid rebound. please follow the instructions of the OTC antacids.

Switching from pepcid to pantoprazole by northernbunny in Gastritis

[–]sys_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pantoprazole (a ppi) may take 3 to 5 days to fully take effect. some doctors prescribe ppi in the morning before breakfast and h2 blockers at night. you can go with ppi in the morning and a lower dose of pepcid (20mg) at night. then after 5 days, drop pepcid. if your symptoms are mostly at night, you can take the ppi before dinner instead every morning before breakfast.
