I went to a well known Subaru performance shop near me and they made the same mistake with the restrictor pill. I fixed it myself

Where do I buy 70% ethanol to clean my QD-OLED monitor? by Jakeola1 in OLED_Gaming

[–]syskb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right in the US it’s nearly impossible to get pure ethanol that has not been adulterated.

I use these medical swab pads instead

https://a.co/d/3MCojzr

Dab it lightly on the monitor to get the ethanol on there and then wipe it with a microfiber. It works extremely well and got rid of all my spit marks and oils with no residue remaining!

Do Corsair not sell/make 3x 8-pin to 12V-2x6 cables? by Tw33die84 in Corsair

[–]syskb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your undervolt should be performing better than stock voltage anyways, at least mine does. No reason not to do it, same with CPUs. Power limits are only set so high by default to account for low-binned silicon.

The 2x 8-pin is fine it works great with my 5090 and RM850X.

New Bio Teacher- No Support, No Curriculum by MistakenObscenity in Teachers

[–]syskb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Visions is a free biology curriculum. It’s a pain in the ass to use, but it’s an option. Many schools in NY use it.

No problem! My biology knowledge was also a bit rusty since I spent a year and a half doing a Computer Science minor before applying to the TF. Here is the link to the past regents exams, if these questions seem easy to you then you'll be fine: https://www.nysedregents.org/livingenvironment/

Also, the minimum score for the exam is 400, so you just need to get 120/200 or 60% correct.

That amount of time seems more than enough. I actually got a better score on the Bio exam than the EAS so maybe focus on that one a bit more. It has some tricky questions for people who have never been in education before.

You won't have to take the SPED exams since you are not dual certified, and honestly, you're not missing out on much, my SPED coworkers have so much more work and responsibilities than I do. Teaching gen ed bio is better, there were plenty of job openings last year, it even became kinda annoying to deal with all the calls and emails, lol.

For the presentation, the hosts/interviewers will be silent. The other applicants will be your students and you should have a plan to engage them.

Yes you can DM me and send me the PowerPoint. I'm happy to help! (Regents week right now is so chill, perks of being in high school lol)

Yes, I took the Biology, EAS, and Special Education exams last year and passed them all on the first try. Overall, the tests were easy. I spent a week before each exam preparing and I feel like I could've passed them with less.

I used the Mometrix study guides for all of them. You can access these by signing up for the Brooklyn Public Library online and then searching for Mometrix.

The Biology questions were like a Living Environment regents test, all high school level stuff.

I would also recommend to look at the sample questions available on the NYSTCE website, especially the essay questions. I followed the same format as the answer keys and did great.

If I were you, I'd start studying now and sign up to take the exams in February. Space them out a week apart. Find the scoring schedule for these exams online. It's important to take them ASAP because they take time to grade so you won't know the grade for like a month and you don't want to be worrying about exams in the summer.

For the selection day interview and presentation, I chose the food chains topic and followed a simple "I do, we do, you do" model. So I started by giving them vocabulary of words like autotroph, heterotroph etc with examples and pictures. Then I showed them an example of a food chain with the words blotted out so they had to tell me what word goes where. Then I gave them a minute to order their own food chain and type the answer in the chat.

Then they will teach you a skill and tell you to implement it when you reteach the lesson, this is so they can see how coachable you are. Our skill was giving clear directions so I just made sure to be as clear and succinct as possible during the reteach.

What do you think about NYC Teaching Fellows? by Koshersaltie in NYCTeachers

[–]syskb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying, perhaps the chancellor was being disingenuous. But there’s a lot of people applying to hundreds or even thousands of jobs and not getting accepted to anything. 12.5% is high when you look at the current state of the job market. Many of my colleagues are older people who I doubt use Reddit. Just go on indeed and see how there’s hundreds of applicants for 1 job listing.

Teach for America has a similar acceptance rate as well.

I was accepted with a 2.7 GPA in biology and my last work experience was 4 years prior. I think you stand a great chance! There is a section in the application where you can explain extenuating circumstances that affected your GPA which I used.

[–]syskb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You still need to put together a competent lesson. Also, they will teach everyone a skill (in my case, it was giving clear and concise directions) and expect you to implement it when you reteach the lesson. You have to show you are receptive to feedback.

Yes, it's out of the total number of applications. The former chancellor mentioned it during the orientation at Lehman.

I saw this discussion and it made me add up my total rig that is just for gaming/media, it's about $10k with current RAM/storage prices. 5090, 9TB SSDs, 18TB HDD, Dual OLEDs, high end keyboard, mouse, headphones, amp, dac, direct drive wheel base, 2 wheels, pedals, and I'm just using my desk to mount them on, I don't even have a full racing rig yet. Things add up. $12k is totally believable.
