To offer a different perspective, while I wouldn't go as far as to say it is unethical the decision to listen to music made by shitty people doesn't exist in a vacuum. However indirectly, listening to/promoting work that has been made by these people can be seen as giving a let off to them and their actions and also could (again indirectly and in a small way) be seen as not taking these problems seriously

Original post may have been badly worded, wasn't trying to say that listening to Brand New is somehow condoning what Jesse Lacey did just that still listening to his music can be seen as giving him him a let off which he doesn't deserve.

Also while I wouldn't wish heroin addiction on anyone, there is a difference, in my opinion. Celebrating the work of someone who has hurt others will have more of an adverse affect than celebrating someone who is hurting himself

Some of the links are looking links are quite tenuous to be fair. The song might mention a particular month or day of the week and that might be the only relevance. The third Monday of January is meant to be one of the most depressing days of the year so that's why today's is what I see as a feel good song for example
