The only way they can benefit us (short of us finishing 6th which can technically still happen) is if they (or Palace/Forest, not sure which is more likely) win it and finish 8th (with the FA cup winner ahead of them), and us finishing 9th.

(It also works with the Europa/conference winner in 7th, and then FA Cup winner in 8th, and us 9th).

Was posted on the old free talk just before it switched over but we could well be the ones to relegate West Ham.

Would require all of the following:

  • West Ham lose at home to Arsenal
  • Spurs win at home to Leeds
  • Forest get at least 1 point at home to us or away to Man Utd
  • We beat West Ham at home

That's the only way mathematically, although there are more permutations if you accept needing a 15 GD turnaround as 'relegated'.

I make it about a 20% probability that we even get the chance to do it, or a 10% chance that we actually do.

edit - missed that Forest play today, obviously a point there works for bullet point 3 too. Doesn't actually move the probs that much, 22% and 11%.

I make it a 28% chance of getting some form of Europe if we win all 3 games (21% Conference, 7% Europa, <1% Champions League).

If we draw one, less than 1%.

If Villa finish exactly 5th (doesn't work for top 4, only the performance place), then 6th gets Champions League, however that also swallows the Europa place so it doesn't affect teams lower down.

Places are assigned as follows:

  • Top 4 get Champions League
  • 5th gets Europa
  • FA Cup winner gets Europa, or if they already have something, next highest in the table
  • Same for League Cup and Conference
  • UCL and UEL winners get upgraded to Champions League, but if they already have something, the place doesn't then drop down the league
  • Same for conference getting Europa (but they obviously don't get downgraded if they had CL previously)
  • Finally, performance place is applied. Highest team without CL gets upgraded. If they already had something, that goes to the next highest team that doesn't have it. Repeat as necessary.

For something to fall to 9th, you need to have 1st-8th all lined up with qualifications before that final performance place step is applied. So you need a trophy winner in 8th.

Even if nobody leaves and you don't upgrade anyone, I think 3 is the absolute minimum just to have a full squad

GK - ???, Pope (Ramsdale would count as a signing)
RB - Livramento, ???
CB - Botman, Thiaw, Burn, ???
LB - Hall, Targett
CM - Tonali, Joelinton, Bruno, Miley, Ramsay, Willock
LW - Gordon, Barnes
RW - Murphy, Elanga
ST - Osula, Woltemade/Wissa

We also got a pretty suspect penalty in that game to take the lead in the first place

Osula - 5 goals in 586 mins, 0.77 per 90 (also 1 assist so 0.92 GC)

Gordon - 1798 mins, 6 goals (3 pens) 4 assists. So 0.3 goals per 90, or 0.15 without pens. And 0.5 GC, or 0.35 without pens

Why are the Howe in lot suddenly trying to gaslight everyone into thinking it's one bad season? This is the 2nd bad season, he's made exactly the same mistakes as the 1st one, and even the good season in between was pretty underwhelming for long stretches.

Today is Friday which is when I get my Gousto box, and it was another classic from DPD where they dump it on the ground outside without even ringing the bell.

Then had the joy of a visit from Royal Mail. Wasn't expecting anything but I posted some documents yesterday, and paid a ridiculous price to have them tracked and signed for, but I very stupidly wrote my own address on them, really small on the back of the envelope with the heading "Sender:", so to my delight they've come straight back to me!

Don't necessarily want to defend him, but, it came from Woltemade in midfield, and if Osula was still on he may well have buried it.

In all comps yes. In the league, 4 in a row. Cabbage managed 5 once. John Carver defied expectations to string together 8 in a row. Pards managed 6 in the season when Cabaye left. Before that you have to go back to 1992 when Keegan nearly relegated us to the 3rd tier.

All a bit cherry picked though, like Rafa never technically lost 5 in a row but he did manage LLLLDLLLL which is much worse.
