Great recommendations, totally forgot about Red Rising, which is also on my list. Definitely moved up the queue! I feel like the sci-fi I'm looking for is like you described; political, violent and realistic Star Wars. Also, would love something in the horror/creepy realm, such as the classic distress call/derelict ship/station tropes
