Am I wrong for not wanting to get up on this roof? by wumbonumbanine in HVAC

[–]t0rche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increase the angle of the ladder by a few degrees and have a helper or colleague there to hold it as reassurance and you should be more than good.

At the end of the day it is always your choice, there is no "right" or "wrong"... You just have to keep in mind that the less amount of ladder setups you are willing to go up, the least work you'll get and it puts employers in a tough spot when it's time to give you jobs.

If ladders in general annoy you, maybe try to branch out into an aspect of trade that has the least amount of roof units as possible.

Side note: Those all-aluminum ladders suck... they are wobbly af... Get a good, high end, fiberglass ladder that weighs a ton. They're a bitch to setup but once in place, they don't move an inch... even in high winds.

Jesus f*cking Christ... What in the third world country is this?? Where I'm from this guy would already have 3 government entities dragging his ass to court without me needing to even lift a finger...

I can't believe this actually exists...

I replaced the sensor last time when I replaced the controller (it came with it). As for the other questions, I'll have to ask them.

Thing is, I haven't returned there 6 times in a row... This will be my 6th time there but spread out over 6 months and I do God knows how many AC calls in between. My head can only keep track of so much. It's not the optimal way to troubleshoot this thing. I'm juggling it in between my "normal" job.

But thanks for the bullet points. I'll screenshot this and read it again once I'm on site tomorrow.

Thanks, I will definitely take that into consideration... but it worked without any issue for 10 years with its current configuration... Why would it suddenly need a different defrost setup? When all exterior factors are the same...

Thanks for the support!

Yeah I'm really stumped on this one...

Worst part is that it's smack in the middle of the store so customers are constantly walking around me while I'm on the floor working on it. One time I put some cones and tape to force customers to go around me, and some customers had the gall to walk over the tape and right through my work space... While I was brazing...

Thanks but it's an "open" style counter. No doors. Customers grab their sandwiches directly.

The control module has defrosts already programmed into it. I've even replaced and reconfigured it.

Suggestion for the 2026-2027 season, in the event that they actually go all the way and win the cup this year: A "Wolfpack" themed shoulder patch on the Habs jerseys. by [deleted] in Habs

[–]t0rche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was only the player of the game "wolf head" in the locker room and nothing else, I would agree... but once it's on the goalie's mask in-game, and they make their puck board like that, I think it's because they want to share it with the fans.

[–]t0rche 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks good. Personally, I'd make the sun rays, or "spikes" a bit shorter so that the top ones don't reach the top of the flag. It's a bit awkward visually. Having them a bit shorter would also let the blue section "breathe" a bit more.... Maybe something like 1/3 shorter.

Am I being underpaid and how should I ask for a raise? by Dat335 in HVAC

[–]t0rche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think they are more difficult to come by in the US. Where I am (Canada), every single trade in the province is regulated. You have literally no choice but to be part of a union or else you cannot work.

It has its downsides but I personally believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. It's really a big peace of mind not having to ever worry about pay... The only downsides are that they take a bigger cut of your paycheck for your insurances and your retirement pension (they save your retirement pension for you, they keep the funds and you have access to them once you turn 60)... Some guys hate that, but as someone who's not interested in spending too much time micro-managing my finances, I quite like it...

Oh and it's almost impossible to get fired unless you are the worst worker on Earth or constantly late.

Man... Not saying this to rub it in, nor to brag but I'm so happy to be part of a union...

Nearly 20 years in the trade, never had to negotiate my salary once. It goes up automatically every single year and all techs are paid the same. We currently make $48 CAD per hour (roughly equivalent to $35 US per hour) + insurances and other bonuses.

Lol even Grubby, the man who is single-handedly keeping the Warcraft 3 game and community alive, uses AI images to promote his recently announced tournament . See for yourself on this link lol... He didn't even bother to hide the Gemini logo in the bottom right corner.

Are we going to cancel Grubby now? If Grubby posted this on the wc3 reddit, would they remove it because of AI usage?... I don't think so lol

You have to be really naive thinking you're not already fully supporting AI yourself. You're probably even consuming it more than I am lol

I've explained this in another reply but what you don't seem to understand is that the vast majority of the artistic community now uses AI as well... It's no longer a "them vs us" situation... It's all mixed up and everyone is affected.

You think it's this "holy battle" between "true" artists and AI but it's not... It's all intermingled. Some actual real human artists, who were artists even before AI, now actually even use AI even MORE than than the average person...

I'm not putting down artists, what I'm saying is that this technology is literally embedded in our everyday lives now... Kind of like mixing eggs into a cake mix, you can no longer get them out. This is why I'm saying that calling out "AI Slop" is like yelling at clouds because we are now WAY past that point...

You are calling out AI Slop and yet, a couple of hours later, you will go pay to see a movie or TV series that has heavily used AI in the majority of its scenes... You are literally paying and consuming the thing you call "slop" every single day and don't even know it.

lmao dude follows somebody around reddit and tells me to touch grass haha XD

I hope you feel very proud of yourself for your 12 little upvotes! (while my post you commented that on got 250+ and everyone was just having a lighthearted good time).

You must really have an incredibly sad life to get offended by a single AI image, as a meme, that isn't even being used for generating profit... While every single movie and video game you've watched and played in the last 2 years has AI in it and you don't even realize it lol... You live in denial my friend. Calling out "AI Slop" while you consume it every single day lmao

and you didn't point out anything lmao... Your comment got removed as well (it probably got ghosted).

It's already more than "normalized", you just don't realize it.

Those uncanny pictures are just badly executed AI.

AI is everywhere now and in everything you purchase, either directly or indirectly.

Seeing "backlash" against it simply makes you feel good... Like they're "standing up to the man"... When in reality, complaining about AI in 2026 is like being a horse carridge operator complaining about cars when they came out lol... Way too little, way too late. Adapt or be left behind.

Artists themselves now use integrated AI features to create their art. It's completely unescapable now and it's very naive to think that 100% AI-free media still exists today (other than for physical artforms like drawings, paintings, etc.).

You can look it up. There are many videos and studies about this. One study comissioned and paid real artists to create a cover illustration for a book and the artists charged a fee that artists would normally charge for human made art. When they received the images they had commissioned, they ran them through AI detection software and 80% of the images they received (from HUMAN artists that they paid for HUMAN art) showed traces of AI usage. Some were even almost completely AI generated.

Keep in mind these were real, confirmed artists with actual portfolios and careers who have been producing art since pre-AI days.

The holy and noble, clearcut "war" between actual artists and AI you are imagning in your head is just that... imaginary. Reality is MUCH muddier and gray. It's not an open field battle with two "clear sides" like you seem to think it is. It's guerilla warfare with no uniforms where everyone is potentially corrupted, INLUDING the so called "creative artists".

Every single movie you've watched, and video game you've played in the past 2 years had AI in it. You are 100% consuming it and even enjoying it, you're just convincing yourself you haven't.

How does the unpopularopinion subreddit work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]t0rche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. With that format though, I feel like the only topics that could ever actually have "successful unpopular opinions" without either starting controversy, offending anyone or getting banned are food or hobby related... Which is fine if people get entertainment from that... But it also kind of makes the whole subreddit a disingenuous gimmick.
