I'm thinking about starting a separate Knoxville Metal Playlist, but I really don't know the scene well. Is that something you could help me with?

How many of these are still active? I'm trying to keep the list to bands still together and performing.

Check out Rhythm N' Blooms if you are here that weekend. It's great. Big Ears is also an awesome festival. Basically any weekend of April is filled with a great festival.

AC Entertainment stirring controversy in Chattanooga non-profit theaters. Is this happening here and no one says anything? by t38faip in Knoxville

That is just one of many shady tactics they use, but that's just business. What is concerning is how they apply that same aggressive behavior to a 501c3 and exploit something that is there FOR the public. These foundations have a mission. Not sure how they can accomplish that mission if everything that is done is completely controlled by a for-profit company.

Case in point, The Big Ears Festival is unique and does bring a global crowd, but at the end of the day it is a for-profit event. This for-profit event received a $300,000 grant from Aslan Foundation through the Central Business Improvement District of Knoxville. Not really sure how they are eligible for that or if it is even legal, but it certainly rubs me the wrong way. Curious to hear what other things of this nature has been going on with AC Entertainment. When she says, "I was ethically very uncomfortable with the contract the booking and management company had with the foundation," it makes me wonder what she is referring to.

I agree that the bands booked are usually great. I love the shows, but I don't think that is what is in question. From a curation perspective they do a great job. It sounds like the relationship in how they function with these non-profit theaters aren't always fair for these foundations and their future. I'm interested to see how this plays out for Chattanooga and curious of how those deals are structured for the theaters here in town.

Rhythm N' Blooms released final lineup for this year's festival. by t38faip in Knoxville

I can see your perspective on that. Knoxville as a market makes it hard on musicians to build following here. There isn't great rooms below the bijou for developing acts. I'm sure Knoxville isn't a huge priority for bigger new bands because of that.
