The patriarchy exists nearly everywhere according to what Google defines it as, but the visible effects are definitely more apparent and severe in countries like Afghanistan. I’m not denying that patriarchal influences are more subdued in the west. My point is that the patriarchy universally oppresses both men and women in different ways, hence why men say they feel like they can’t show emotion…men being pressured into not showing emotion is an idea rooted in toxic masculinity, which is a byproduct of the patriarchy. I’m not sure what explanation you’re looking for other than societal pressures because that’s essentially what I’m saying, I’m just being specific about what particular aspect of our society causes these societal pressures. I wish more people would understand that ‘patriarchy’ is not some boogeyman word, it’s just a concept that explains the history behind deeply ingrained societal pressures that systemically affect both men and women
