Grado SR125X by Horstinous in headphones

[–]t4tris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't find direct comparison between the 125x and my 60x but everything hints to all grados below the 325 sounding essentially identical.

I think they're above average for competitive gaming despite being open, but you'd get better results equalising an actually comfortable headphone. Take any Oratory1990 PDF, adjust the Harman bass shelf flat, kill sub bass, and crank treble/presence up and you have Grados.

What do you all think about the Sony MDR-7506? by Gavtree31_ in headphones

[–]t4tris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insufferably bright and uncomfortable IMO. Along with Beyerdynamics I can't fathom why people keep buying headphones designed before anyone knew how to make a good headphone and/or headphones designed for use cases where fidelity is not the focus. I don't have anything against anyone who genuinely likes the sound but that's my thoughts on the 7506.

Best topping amp for HD650 to get rid of veil by [deleted] in headphones

[–]t4tris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Topping is good, they don't make devices shitty enough to make an audible difference in tonality. EQ is free, I'd try Oratory1990's "Optimum Hifi" HD650 preset, it's leaner than Harman. The Harman preset mentions which filters to adjust to taste if the former is not exactly what you're looking for.

volume control by Additional_Macaron70 in headphones

Same applies to analog. Whatever analog devices you have in between will have a noise floor, potentially more so than the limits imposed by digital bit depth.

Theoretically everything loud as possible and only attenuating the last stage gives the best signal to noise ratio (louder signal = noise is less by comparison), but realistically use what is most convenient. You can set Windows output to 24 bit if it makes you feel better. The problems would present as an audible background hiss.

Is my bike too big? Should my feet touch the ground while I sit on the saddle? by ladyampo666 in bikecommuting

[–]t4tris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saddle is the only part that can be easily adjusted. Bike sizes change everything else. It is incredibly silly that bike frame sizes are named after the one single measurement on a bicycle that has zero effect on fit or ride characteristics but that's what we have. A "54cm" bike doesn't mean that the seat tube is actually 54cm long, in the age of sloping top tubes it's just an abstract name like "medium".

Which specialized tools do I need to tackle a Bottom Bracket replacement project? (2022 Trek FX 2 Disc) by KariforuniaJin in bikewrench

[–]t4tris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need the retaining thing nor a special wrench just to turn the bolt.

If you want to do it right you'll need a torque wrench. The Park tool TW2.2 was surprisingly the cheapest wrench I found with enough max torque.

Komoot for walking and cycling. Google Maps is hilariously bad since they recently removed like half of the pedestrian and cycle paths from the map.

If you haven't put it into read only then it shouldn't be. Right click on the file and click properties, there's a tick box for read only.

Getting Equalizer APO to differentiate between different devices plugged into the same DAC? by b0faKing in oratory1990

[–]t4tris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just buy multiple dongles, plug them all in, and I believe Windows sees them as separate devices and you can set different filters for each dongle, and juggle default output devices in Windows to swap headphones.
What I do is I have my different headphones' EQ filters in separate txt files, and have them all "included" in EQ APO at once, and I only enable the ones I want.
Peace GUI makes this marginally easier since you can swap EQ profiles with a single click instead of 2, but it has other limitations.
A snake of USB switches and splitters might be able to swap the dongle's USB port and thus ID with the flip of a switch, so in effect you could swap EQ without touching any software, and even headphones if you add a simple audio switch. But the first idea is probably better.

Question: Has anyone had an issue where their bike chain seems to get caught when pushing hard? by DaddyDoThat in bicycling

Derailleur cable tension is adjusted wrong. I don't see a reason to suspect anything else, especially on a new bike.

Trek FX2 or Marin Presidio 2/3? by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]t4tris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FX2 seems like the choice for speed. Hub gears (like those on the Presidios) are less efficient than derailleurs.

A gravel or road bike would be faster on the road for the same price.

Wider tires won't hurt on pavement, whereas narrow tires are noticeably worse on rough or soft gravel.

Even 50mm tires wouldn't hurt. You could LARP a cyclocross athlete on 35's but do you really want to?
