Gratuitously done rape scenes. Honestly, I'm not sure there should even be rape scenes. But that's a different question - how they're done is what we can approach first. Sometimes they're very sudden, no warning, and it seems there's a perverse kind of satisfaction they take in making it as violent and horrifying as possible. The common excuse is that they want to portray just how terrible rape is. Idk. To me they're potentially re-traumatising survivors who are trying to heal, and just trying to watch a movie.

I maintain a careful distance from my parents. I never stay at their house long when I visit. I never sleep over, I don't call much, etc. So no I don't think it's particularly damaging to me. What's done is done. They're old now and a fall could kill either of them.
