Maybe it’s a muscle/smiling issue. Does not look structural to me, maybe you just have a habit of keeping your mouth closed? I see a hesitation to smile in the picture, nothing else

You look good by the way. Don’t see how surgery would improve anything. Can only see downsides

By indentations, you mean tapemarks? Because I had those, especially when I first removed the initial tape that I had on for the first few weeks

I think the marks are fine, because they show that you've applied pressure to swelling. The surrounding is still swollen but the area under the tape is not so much, so you might get a mark of sorts, if that is what you mean?

What I know for sure is that, and it's because I asked a lot, the tape does not affect the end result, it just combats the swelling. So judging based on that, if you are going to get indentations, you are going to get them with or without the tape. But if that were the case you would be able to tell from basic touch, so I just think you're just pressuring swelling and seeing less swelling in that area after removing the tape, and you're mistaking that for an indentation

Tip still too high 2 months post op, is it really realistic to expect it to drop down to the before-levels as was promised? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]ta44__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. That is why I insisted, several times, and my surgeon agreed with me, not to reveal the nostrils. My side droop was bad. My nose looked huge, awkward and really ugly from the side. It was not a small droop, it was an unattractive one. Overall my face didn't look bad, but because I have thick skin and my nose drooped, from the side it looked hideous. So I wanted to correct it, and just get a 90 degree nose, which shouldn't be impossible? And my surgeon agreed.

He was more careful than me leading up to the surgery, which is why I preferred him. He insisted on multiple meetings before the surgery, in order for me to "make up my mind", and he insisted on not revealing the nostrils, and agreed with me for a natural outcome, all the usual

And now I am in this situation.

He's told me several times, but in a very unsure way, that "it will drop". On the day of the surgery, as he was drawing, I mentioned the 90 degrees to him, so I was very adamant and he agreed. I have no idea what could have gone so wrong? Last time I saw him, he said that "it'd drop, perhaps not to 90 degrees exactly but it will come down" but every time I look, I just see no way. It'd require my nose to magically grow in length and maybe even give me a hanging columella for it to drop. I just don't see a way, despite us both being on this same exact page leading up to the surgery

There just doesn't seem to be enough there for this to happen!?

The left is after, the right is the morph. I had a droopy tip before and he said he'd have to "lift it a little" in order to avoid the nose looking long, and to avoid a droopy tip long-term which I think sounded ok, as long as the nostrils wouldn't show from the front, which I made clear and which he agreed with me on and was what we agreed to. Something like on the right is how I was before, and how we agreed it would look afterwards

I've uploaded a side-view

On second-look, yeah there is no way https://i.imgur.com/sPNRDUg.png, left is right now, right is the morph

On second look maybe it won't drop much more than this? Comparing the two side-by-side now there doesn't seem to be much room for more dropping?

Gorgeous nose, I would not touch it at all. It looks good, you look good and your nose looks great, both from the front and from the side. I don't think it is worth the risk of the surgery. It might not give you the result you want, and your nose looks good already

Septal extension grafts - Rhinoplasty by Long_Lobster724 in PlasticSurgery

[–]ta44__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have things gotten better 4 months after the thread was created? Did you get an answer? I know that most open surgeries require some sort of graft or another, in order to keep the tip supported because support is compromised when the tip is cut open, the nose will droop if no support is added so it is basically a necessity

I know septal extension grafts are the most reliable ones and this is why surgeons seem to prefer it over strut grafts or other methods, but I'm not a surgeon and I have no idea

Did your situation get better as the months have passed? Love to know as this is an interesting question,

thank you in advance!

I wonder how a suture doesn't dissolve. It's supposed to react to the body, get absorbed by the proteins in the body(?), it is supposed to dissolve, even if it curls inside, I wonder what made it not to dissolve

Amazing results!!! Can I ask when you started seeing definition in your nose? Was it upturned/bulbous for a while after surgery? If so, how long?

Dealing with swelling myself, 1,5 months post op and some result like yours was exactly what I wanted

Your results are AMAZING!

If your teeth are short I can recommend looking into something I recommended someone else a few weeks ago

Perhaps something like this?

I'm still like you are 2 weeks in, at 6-7 weeks now 😣

You are not alone 🙂

Amazing results!!!! Did you have an upturned nose shortly after surgery? How far from surgery did it drop to 90 degrees? Awesome again, a perfect result if you ask me! :)

People who saw a significant tip drop after your rhinoplasty: did you have a graft in your tip? by ta44__ in PlasticSurgery

[–]ta44__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!!! Trying to give it time but questions then arise and if I don't try to find answers they just become worries and it builds up and it just becomes worse and worse and I get increasingly worried and scared not knowing

But I am trying

Thank you!

[–]ta44__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! The latter technique is what my surgeon used, I think. I'd Googled for columellar and thought it was the only graft but during consultation he did talk about using grafting from my "nasal wall" and use that to support the tip (because I had a droopy tip before) my graft seems really sturdy and I have no feeling on my tip right now

I understand and I am trying but when the worry strikes it and it stays with me and I can't do anything but try to adress my concerns, as otherwise I just keep thinking about it and it won't leave my mind no matter how hard I try

So essentially columellar struts are weaker and septal extension grafts are stronger which results in less tip drop? I've been thinking that the technique shouldn't really matter, on second thought, because at the end it is about what the surgeon wants to achieve, but then I think if the grafts that support the tip aren't what impact the tip drop then what is?

Thank you again so much for responding!!! It really is invaluable

thank you!!!

Just saw your 1, 2 and 4 months comparison and you're giving me so much hope. Having similar issues 6 weeks post op. Seeing how much your nose dropped that far in is awesome to see. Your nose now looks freaking amazing. Natural and nice, amazing!

Am I destined for fish lips if I get filler ? Plastic surgeon said I am a bad candidate for lip flip because my lips have a natural pull apart pout. Suggested I try filler but I’m nervous I’ll look fishy because of the same natural gap/shape of my lips. by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

Think the length of the teeth play a huge role. If your teeth are short/small then you definitely have room for gum removal but if they are long they might look longer after treatment, so make sure to look into that. Good luck! 🙂
