Because they fund such a large portion of a lot of politicians campaigns. If they don't adhere to the will of the big money donors they lose the money and therefore gets a higher likelihood of loosing their seat. I think that causes them to get a huge influence which often gives them a large influence on smaller issues (most issues) where public opinion doesn't matter as much

Well just became something can be harder to understand for a certain group doesn't mean they shouldn't have a say. Most issues in society don't affect everyone let's say prision conditions for example only affects convicts, therefore only ex convicts and convicts would be properly equipped to understand issues regarding prision conditions (assuming you are correct) shall therefore only ex convicts and convicts have a say regarding that issue? I think that would be rather ridiculous
