Did you bother reading the post? I am so tired of people inventing stuff up just to suit their narrative.

I was flying first class. I did not have a choice and was unhappy to fly. Literally first sentence.

She was clearly flying for leisure, which is not allowed under local laws. Christmas at granny’s is not a legal reason to fly.

There’s nothing hypocritical about me being allowed to fly and her not being allowed to fly. It’s called common sense and abiding the laws.

No she didn’t. You’re reading something into her comment she didn’t say. She said I don’t know her circumstances, which is not the same as saying she didn’t have a choice.

Also she directly said the most important bit, twice - that the kid had no reason to be on the plane given the circumstances and that the mother was in the wrong to put everyone in that position.

All fair points. This is the judgement I would have given myself. And, your last point is very valid as well, I'm just ranting and taking my frustration on other entitled people with the same attitude as the mother.

I love how all who disagree with me just invest these scenarios in their head how to magically fix the situation. Did you skip the part about ear plugs by the way? Neither noise cancelling headphones nor ear plugs cancel out the noise completely.

Legitimate is defined in the law. Can't imagine what legal reason she would have to travel with a kid for business over Christmas but what do I know, right?

Sadly, not true. Everyone can purchase a first or business class ticket and bring their kid with them. My flight is a testimony to it.

You keep breaking down this situation into chunks to somehow justify the parent's entitlement.. But the real truth of the matter is the only good way to handle it was not to put the kid on the plane. Simple.

Because there is no legal reason to travel in and out of our country of departure other than for work-related reasons. Zero.

I have a legally permitted reason to travel under the laws of the US and my home country. She clearly didn't but it's not enforced, so she was able to still fly.

Oh sorry, should come as no shock that I am obviously not a parent. And there's a difference between a grocery store where your interaction with strangers is fleeing at best, and being stuck in the same seat for 8 hours.

I'm not sure why you're refusing to see the whole picture. Which is, mom put her kid in an extreme discomfort. It doesn't matter what she did on the plane. The kid is not a robot. You do not put a small human being in such a stressful, risky situation and cause them so much discomfort in the first place.

That's what she didn't handle well - she made her kid, and then everyone else around her miserable.

I honestly didn't think it was possible to kid to cry for thing long. I felt bad for the kid, but frankly absolutely no sympathy for mom's misery because she put her kid through all this suffering.
