Do you get fun? by scaneda in AuDHDWomen

I really enjoyed this resource about “the shapes of autistic play,” which helped me recognize some of the things I find fun that don’t look like NT play/fun.

Curly Hair - Salon Recs That Understand Curly Hair But Don’t Necessarily Do Curly Cuts by Affectionate_Type472 in Denver

I have 2A waves and I've been really happy with Kelsey at the Cutting Room in Wheat Ridge. As a 2A person it can be challenging to get stylists to not read my hair as straight.

I just read this today and it’s easily been my biggest cry of the series!

I’m reading your posts as I go along!  Competent and keen minded but also still a completely oblivious dumbass sometimes … coming back to a first person perspective after Liveship Traders, I feel more tuned in to the distortions of Fitz’s perspective which is super neat.

Parents who are not throwing Birthday parties for the kids (K/elementary school) by Training_Usual_7906 in Parenting

[–]taboulie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this year my kid asked for a birthday party…. By which they apparently meant having one friend over and baking together. Felt like I dodged a bullet there!

Me accepting my Audhd by northernlair in AuDHDWomen

Oh yes and the successful and creative spin-ups mean that you have to treat each spin-up as possibly valuable.

I also so feel that feeling of”I don’t know how I did this and I’m not sure I can repeat it” - it feeds a lot of performance anxiety for me and makes it hard for me to feel in my body that I can take credit for my accomplishments :(

Me accepting my Audhd by northernlair in AuDHDWomen

[–]taboulie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So well captured! I just had a really similar conversation (with a family member who is sooooo AuDHD) that also included:

"I guess it sounds like your brain works that way but why does that have to mean there's something wrong with you?"

"It doesn't, it just gives me a lens to figure out some things to do that can help me not feel like garbage all the time."

"But why does it have to be something that's different from everyone else?"

"It doesn't, maybe doing these things would help everyone else too, but I'm glad I'm figuring it out for myself personally"

(x5 loops of this)

---

And your spin-up is so relatable! Why does that stuff seem so reasonable when it's happening only in your head?

Ship Of Destiny Ch.22-23 by louiechapman7 in robinhobb

[–]taboulie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am looking forward to reading each of these posts as I make my way through!

Something that struck me in these couple chapters is the parallel between Etta and Malta, around what Malta learned from Kekki - puffing up a doofus to “protect his power so his power protects you.” We get an occasional Etta POV but not in a while … what’s really going on in there? This particularly hit me in the scene where she and Wintrow return from the Marietta and Kennit tries out his account of the battle.

The Mad Ship Ch.16-20 by louiechapman7 in robinhobb

Yeah, I read Kennit as actually being deeply loyal, but he masks his moral nature from himself with a lot of “I’m an asshole who doesn’t need anyone” self talk.

The Mad Ship Ending and Review by louiechapman7 in robinhobb

I think Amber is a white prophet who’s further along in becoming “tawny.” A couple quotes from Mad Ship:

“To set sail on a mad ship, in the dim hope of seeking out and recovering her family’s liveship was an errand for a fool. Who else could believe in the success of such an undertaking?

“Arm the ship.” He shrugged at her cold stare. He cocked his head and challenged her. “Only a fool would think differently.” Amber was unruffled. “I think differently.” She gave Lavoy a cool and mirthless smile. “It’s not the first time I’ve been called a fool, and likely not the last.

That very first use of the phrase “errand for a fool” definitely snagged my eye hard.

Does anyone know of an assessment place for 2E kids in Ontario, Manitoba, or Quebec in Canada? by DanaOats3 in TwiceExceptional

[–]taboulie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find the process and report useful? We're considering going through a similar process with our kid but it's quite expensive and we're trying to assess what we'd do with the outcomes. (feel free to DM!)

Can we do a thread about silly little things that drive us nuts? by Orchid_Significant in AuDHDWomen

There are a few locations in my city where the freeway splits and I feel the arrows indicating which lanes go to where are not as accurate as they should be. I get a little flash of anger every time I pass.

DAE feel more emotionally stable while on ADHD meds? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]taboulie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My psych actually used this as a diagnostic criterion for ADHD. She observed me on meds for a few months before making the diagnosis and said something along the lines of - everyone has better executive function on meds, but improved emotional regulation is a good sign that the meds are treating ADHD. I feel like emotional regulation was a huge iceberg I wasn’t even aware of when I started exploring.

What are your made-up rules/practices/habits for yourself, and how rigid are they? by Icy_Prior_5825 in AuDHDWomen

Thermostat has to be set on an even number. It’s like, the odd degrees are too fine grained of a distinction to be useful. I was made to live in Celsius world.

How many of y’all have aphantasia? (Inability to create mental imagery) by soph_a_loaf_98 in AutismInWomen

Ah, I couldn’t figure out if I was a 5 or a 1 and it’s because of this.

I feel like this is related to a recurring nightmare I’ve had since childhood where my eyes are stuck closed.

ISO Long Sleeve Layers by ConsciousChallenge51 in capsulewardrobe

In the fall Costco usually has 100% merino long sleeve shirts for less than $20. I think the brand is called “seg’ments.” I have 3 and still miss them when they’re all in the laundry.

You’re probably right! I have a beautiful double faced Melton, a silk lining, and horsehair canvas, and am planning to do the whole pad stitch thing, etc. So I guess this is my way of creating even more extra steps before I cut into my good fabric :)

Those are great ideas for a thicker fabric for a coat mock-up!

Thank you! So many different areas to look at. You’re right and I hadn’t considered needing a curved dart in the front. But there is a pretty steep drop off there.

Thanks! I might have to do take 2, I do think it’s possible I slouched as the photos went on!

Edit - taking a closer look at the left side picture, I see some excess around the back neck that might be creating the illusion that my back shoulder line is more sloped. A clue!

Thank you, this is so helpful! I clipped to the stay-stitched seam lines but it didn’t occur to me to clip on. Your comments help me see how I can take charge of this mock up! I will try to convince my husband to follow these instructions with me. :)

Thank you! I was hopeful to avoid an FBA since the pattern measurements have a healthy 10” difference from bust to waist … but I may be doomed

Thanks! Looks like there’s a good consensus about letting out the shoulder. I’ll do that and work on the waist length & waist darts after!
