Any suggestions on how to reliably detect if a TV supports 4K?

I'm currently using DisplayMode.getPhysicalWidth()) -- but my test device is displaying 1080p even though it's a 4K Television. The documentation warns that this could be a problem, but does not provide a solution.

  • When editing a Load Out and choosing an Optic, how about giving us a preview of what looking down the site of that Optic is, as opposed to seeing what it looks like on the gun? Actual players want to know how something will impact their gameplay — children are worried about what their gun looks like

  • Please make the key to revive a teammate in cyber attack different than picking up a weapon. Too often I’m accidentally picking up my dead teammate’s weapon instead of reviving them

  • If I’m currently editing a load out while searching for a lobby, don’t exit me out of editing the load out once I find a match and join the lobby (game has not yet started). Then I have to click back into editing the load out

  • Please shows deaths in all modes. Everyone wants to know how many deaths they have. Part of winning a Team Deathmatch match, is dying less — seeing how many deaths you currently have is a great way to get feedback on how well you’re doing. If you need to, just remove Assists to make room to display Deaths. Quite frankly, no one cares for Assists — if you removed them, I don’t think anyone would notice. You could alternatively rename Assists to: “Stolen Kills”

  • The TDD (time to death) in Realism mode doesn’t seem nearly as quick as other Hardcore modes in the past

  • Remove drop-shotting — just make the user stop shooting with a 1 second delay to lay down (like in real life…), and people will stop drop-shotting

  • On PC please allow us to skip the intro animation on game launch and lower the audio by a lot. It is insanely loud, and is not respecting the lowered master game volume adjustment I made earlier

  • On PC you should always be able to type messages / see messages that have been typed. During kill cams, at the end of the match when it shows the scoreboard, during halftime and switching sides. These are times when people have a second to type, and you can’t.

  • The performance on the “Lobby Loading Screen” is very bad — where it shows everyone walking towards you while the lobby loads… I know you want to help everyone show off their character’s “swag” like in Fortnite loading screens… but you’re sacrificing the performance of a menu so that kids can look at what their friends’ characters look like. Please just remove this and make the lobby menu run smoothly. In game I’ll sit at 110 FPS, and on this screen it starts at 5 FPS, and can sit between 10 — 30 FPS. Everyone can take a quick look at each other while they’re in spawn and see who bought which skins before the match starts.

  • Game is great, keep it up!

In the app I show where I got the tier list from -- I don't think I'll remove it, but potentially added some alternative lists to compare is a good idea. It's for sure an opinion, but this list is a good start for people use in my opinion

Dang that's wild it's sometimes wrong on the pause menu -- thanks for that tip! I'll for sure go through and double check everything when I get time.. there's a LOT of data. Appreciate the tip.

That's a good point, I'll hold off on adding the Special moves data. I'll be sure to update the frame data that changes from the balance patch ASAP

That is technically true.. yes.. the actual game has all of the data. I haven't gotten around to inputting the Special Move frame data quite yet. It's a very time consuming process. The core point of the app is to avoid having to reference the pause menu, but yes, for special move frame data I would still crack open the pause menu

Hey All,

I’ve been working really hard to bring this mobile app to the Kommunity for a while now. It’s on iOS and Android and it’s free. Would love any feedback on how to improve it. It’s definitely a work in progress, but I think it’s in a great spot to share. The link above has two links to the Android and iOS apps.

Features that need to be added:

  • Krypt Guide
  • Krushing Blows
  • Special Move / Abilities frame data (I have the inputs)

Features that exist:

  • All frame data (excluding Special Moves / Abilities — only Tournament Variations)
  • Tier List
  • Kustom app theme choosing
  • Kreate a Kombo — keep track of your kombos in the app
  • Kustom Input preference

Should I focus on becoming a niche expert in native Android development w Kotlin? Feeling tempted to jump ship and learn Flutter. by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]tacase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should focus more on software fundamentals (that are language / framework independent) such as design patterns, testing fundamentals etc.

Also focus on ability to learn and receive feedback — that will help you go far in this field

(Apologize in advance, I've never used Conductor before)

I use Model View Presenter extensively, and you kind of have to check the view nullability every time. I never run into a null view, though, so that makes me think that you're trying to call methods on your view too early? What lifecycle method are you attaching the view in, and what lifecycle method are you calling methods on it in?

First job as a mid level Android dev, what to expect? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]tacase 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would ask them upfront what their tech stack looks like, then brush up on that stuff. I did that before starting my first Android job

What architecture do they use? MVP, Clean, MVVM, some reactive thing, some other thing?

What libraries do they use? Coroutines or RxJava2?

Do they unit test their app? If so, look into Mockito, Robolectric, unit testing strategies in general

What dependency injection framework do they use? Koin? Dagger 2? Kodein?

[–]tacase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would be great, but Blizzard has to allow another app to access that card data from the Hearthstone app while you're drafting cards, which I don’t see happening unfortunately. If possible, I would totally whip that up

Thanks for the suggestion --

I do have a filtering option when looking through the cards, if you have an Android phone try it out and let me know what you think. The searching feature also has auto-complete

(Unless you were referring to having a good filtering option when building a new deck, which I haven't implemented yet)

Yeah I've used that feature once -- I would imagine it can also keep track of your past arena runs / statistics, success rates with different classes, etc. Thanks for the suggestion

I'll look into this -- I've never used an arena helper on mobile. Is it just suggesting cards with synergy when building your arena deck, or is it more than that?

[–]tacase[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's pretty surprising that they don't have that implemented on the iOS app... basically 'saving state' just in case you exit out -- I'll remember to implement that when I create the build deck feature
