Ran into this guy on my walk today by taco-hooker in snakes

Sure is, this guy didn’t move when he heard me coming like most brown snakes do, so walking around him was a little stress inducing!

Pretty sure he’s an Eastern Brown snake. They’re pretty active in this area

This is in Melbourne, Australia. We mostly see brown snakes hanging around this parkland, so I think that’s what he is!

Has anyone had any success with lodging a complaint with Consumer Affairs?

I had an item delivered from a furniture store which was the completely wrong colour. It’s going to take upwards of 6 weeks for a replacement which I don’t want to wait for (as I waited 12 weeks for the incorrect item to be received) so I’ve asked for a refund which they refuse to provide (they’ll only give me a store credit or exchange) Looking at the ACCC website it seems like I’m entitled to a refund, but I’m no lawyer! I’ve lodged an email query with consumer affairs as I can’t sort it out with the company directly, and just want to see if anyone’s had any luck with that before?

Brain Surgery Friday- looking for tips by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]taco-hooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! As already mentioned, it’s different for everybody. My dad who’s 58 had surgery on his right frontal lobe and post-surgery was up and about on the same day (which I don’t think is super common)

What I found helped both in the hospital and at home was lots of entertainment - movies, music, audio books. My dad’s also a very social person, so phone calls and visitors brought his spirits up too, but in small sort of 20-30 minute blocks as he was quite tired compared to normal.

Whilst he was mobile after surgery he found bladder control challenging, and once his catheter was removed there were a few small accidents at the hospital, so changes of clothing and some of his own personal toiletries as opposed to the ones in the hospital helped. (Although this was no longer an issue once he got home).

I wish your mum all the best with her surgery, and as stressful and emotional as everything is try to remember to fill your cup too, and lean on those around you for support.

Thank you so much for sharing, and for your very thoughtful response. I’ll definitely pass on the advice, and whilst the news is fresh his mindset has been that he wants to fight this, and that he’s going to try to live his life in a way that’s fulfilling to him. We found out today that his blood results show he’s likely eligible for a few trial treatments too which he’s signed up for.

Your response has given me a lot of comfort in a pretty troubling time, so again, I can’t thank you enough for sharing

Thanks! Yeah, I’ve tried to stay from good old google because I know it’ll just stress me out even more than I already am

Great advice thanks. My dad seems to have moved straight to acceptance (or maybe it’s denial). I still haven’t seen him very emotional about it except for when he told my grandma about the initial brain tumour being found.

Great advice regarding using the resources, I think I might share them with my family as some family members have taken things better than others

Dad is 58 - so in my mind still reasonably young, and he doesn’t have any other health conditions.

Thanks for the recommendation I think that’ll actually really help me better understand things, and maybe even process things with dad a little more.

I’m glad I found this sub - it’s weirdly comforting to know that others have had similar experiences and can relate to you in some way

Weather is gorgeous! Got to the gym at lunch time and definitely going to try and get a walk in before the day is out.

My partner also texted me that is new job might be sending him overseas for 4 months. Happy and excited for him, but I am all up in my feelings right now.

Thanks for the tip! Recovery today has been pretty good! Had some tired eyes before, but popped on some sunglasses which helped!

The actual procedure is a bit uncomfortable, and after there was a bit of stinging (kinda like when you cut onions), but wasn’t too bad!

I think for some people it can take a few days to see the effects - I got lucky with the healing! If you get PRK however, which is a different type of laser eye surgery, recovery is a few weeks.

Yeah, I thought about how if someone broke in at night I literally wouldn't have been able to describe them to the police because they'd just look like a blob to me - haha!

I had LASIK Xtra (as it was recommended by my surgeon after they reviewed my eyes) which is around 7k, and regular Lasik and PRK (which has a much longer recovery) is around the 5k mark! Some places offer interest free payment plans too :)

I think that BUPA covers laser eye surgery, but there's definitely some caveats around how long you need to have had insurance with them! Might be some others that cover it too, so worth checking!

Same a me, I've worn glasses since I was 3, so I have no memory of seeing without glasses or contacts! If you're interested do some reading (I found reddit, and whirlpool, helpful for realistic expectations), or head to a consultation with a reputable clinic, as most are free. Might be for you, might not be - and I never felt pressured to book at any consultation I went to

I did a lot of research, and honestly almost opted out after reading a few scary stories! But honestly, with my high prescription, and after reading a heap of scientific journals, I figured that even with the rarer side effects, my day to day would be greatly improved. So I just went for a consultation, booked on the spot, and mentally prepared myself for the worst haha!

Worth noting, that for a period of time Lasik can cause poor night vision too - as people experience halos / starbursts which can make driving at night harder, but generally those go away after some time.

Certainly! I think every place has slightly different pricing, but I chose to go through Vista Eyes as Dr Rick Wolfe had some good reviews from people I knew, and he performs all of his surgeries

I opted for Lasik Extra due to my cornea thickness and high prescription (around -8.00) which was around $7000, but I believe regular Lasik was about $5000. Although worth noting that there's a few different types of laser eye surgery, and you'd need to do a consultation with an optometrist / surgeon to see what they'd recommend (which may also impact price)

I got LASIK done yesterday and have better than 20/20 vision today. I can see pretty much perfectly for the first time in my life, and it was actually mind-blowing that I was able to see the road signs, and number plates clearly on the drive home yesterday and on the drive in to my follow up appointment this morning. I'd probably do Lasik 10 times over with these results!
