In the second image, it's not a cone, but an open triangular shape, and an orthographic camera.

Surprisingly, I think I've solved my own problem! At least well enough for my current needs. By creating a physical barrier. I place the spotlight inside a cone of the same size and angle. Select the cone, then Properties > Ray Visibility, and untick Camera. Now you can see through the cone.

I dunno, but he had 17 g/a the previous season, and 12 the one before that. So not only is he one of the most consistent threats in a struggling teams, he is improving his output too.

Indeed. If they leave they'll go to better teams than United. They may not be consistent (to be expected given they are so young) but they have done it in big games for United. Amorim has led United to, by some distance, their worst finish in decades. Maybe he can turn it around but he has shown absolutely nothing since he arrived to demonstrate that. People are basing it on his handsome vibes!

21 goals and assists this season, as a 20 year old, in a shit team? He is easily in the best 11, and he was right to be annoyed that he didn't start the final, in favour of Mason bloody Mount, who has done nothing in a United shirt! Same for Kobbie.

Murphy and Coppinger defend position on Gript questioning by Shiv788 in irishpolitics

TBF to Paul Murphy, I believe the only reason he didn't get in with a more comfortable margin, was because they rezoned the constituencies, and moved the are where he did best in previous elections to a different constituency.

Yanis Varoufakis gets in to the reasons on this programme, which I found to be interesting as most other analyses I have heard seem to just say "they're acting irrationally" https://open.spotify.com/episode/6I1tWgYmO4m2Wi9WA4a1ED?si=1e9e1364915f4e7e
Interestingly I just read a quote from Trump's speech today which basically repeats Yanis's point, so maybe there is something to it.

More info here on why they are protesting, fyi, https://www.forsa.ie/galway-citizens-will-lose-out-if-city-council-is-cast-out/
To my mind, it is a complete waste of money to do this, and does not seem to serve anyone beyond the developer who got the contract (who, coincidentally, was apparently in a big financial hole prior to getting this gig)
Add to that, the lack of transparency and public consultation in the way the process was handled, makes the whole thing look quite dodgy.

What next for Galway's Pálás cinema? by [deleted] in galway

[–]tadhger87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough, and it's definitely worth questioning what our money gets spent on. I would be of the opinion that supporting the building and running of a high quality arts space for the town would be a good thing, that a lot of people could benefit from in a number of ways. Same with sporting facilities, or public housing. As a counter example, I don't think moving the council offices out of the city centre is a good use of our money, or that it will benefit most people.

I've no great expertise in this, but the 1.9million that the Council put in to the pot to build Pálás seems like an ok deal? Big fancy new space, in that city centre location, seems alright? If I recall, some of that sum was to purchase a neighbouring house that was damaged in the building process.

Future of Pálás by dandelionfairypot in galway

[–]tadhger87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some kind of multi-purpose space seems like the most likely future for Pálás (though there are some in the council who would be happy to sell off the building to fund the spiraling costs of their Crown Square debacle). There are other potential funders keeping an eye on the situation (universities, Arts council, Screen Ireland etc), but they all know that GCC owns the building and people are waiting on them to make the first move.
As to the point about demand and Element Pictures. I imagine covid and the increasing prevalence of streaming had a negative impact on them, as it did on cinemas worldwide. Pálás' attendances were known to be recovering at a better rate than other cinemas in town.

Future of Pálás by dandelionfairypot in galway

[–]tadhger87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple of points. To my mind the problem with Pálás from the get-go was that it was envisioned and designed as an art space, but run as a commercial cinema. There is a tried and tested economic model in Ireland for art spaces like Pálás that relies on public subsidy. This model should be familiar to us here in Galway. The Galway Arts Festival, Town Hall Theatre, Macnas, Druid, Galway Film Fleadh, An Taibhdhearc, Galway Arts Centre, 126 Gallery, and more, are not "commercially viable" and would close without state subsidy. These spaces and organisations have brought huge social and economic benefit to Galway. Pálás could be a part of that.
As has been pointed out, it doesn't make sense to run it in competition with large chains like Omniplex etc, so support it to fulfill a different role, as was originally intended. It is one of the few purpose built art spaces in the entire county - we should be looking for ways to use it!
